My girlfriend and I saw Dave Chappelle perform in Yellow Springs, Ohio on August 14, 2020. We were several hours early and the very first ones there besides the staff. It poured and poured the entire time, but no one budged. Dave was absolutely electric. I couldn’t believe he was standing on stage in front of us. It was by far one of the greatest experiences of my life. Towards the end of the show the rain stopped. Walking away that night I felt cleansed of any negativity. Dave does not fuck with any traditional media format unless he can somehow iterate on it, subvert expectation, and also make it worth doing (either monetarily or internally). If you go to his stand up shows, he steals your phone. Nobody did that before him and it changed the game. The podcast format, he’s only dropping episodes at midnight which is completely unique and he only came to podcasting when it became a paid subscription format (they’ve always been free and ad revenue-based until now). He’s not selling out to in-browser website builders and weekly meal box kits to make his podcast worth doing. He’s gonna make us pay him to listen and he’s going to make it worth the cost. The man knows his value, and he respects ours. It’s all completely fair and above board. I don’t have to listen to Dave Chappelle, a modern thought leader and national treasure, read a fucking Manscape ad. In return, he gives us the gift of these supremely badass, deep, next-level human interactions that kinda transcends any sort of recorded spoken entertainment that came before it. This is like, Podcasting 2.0.

WOW. I was not expecting that when I clicked on this. Beautiful. Poetry & Storytelling at the highest level. Brought tears to my eyes twice and I laughed out loud a lot too. Never heard anything like this before. A heart-felt 'Thank you' to everyone involved in creating this.

When I first read about the vinyl release I thought to myself: “yeah, of course Chappelle is gonna pull a don move like that!” But now, listening to this, it makes so much sense! It made me think of a Richard Pryor stand-up record I own combined with a prolonged version of the interludes that made the 90’s and early 2000’s albums so amazing… Plus, the simplicity that defines the podcast format! Can’t wait for it either now and I didn’t even think I needed it! 🙏🙏🙏
