The Millennium Falcon is undeniably the most famous starship of all time, but the real-life history of the Corellian YT-model freighter is just as intriguing as its exploits on screen.

I had the privilege to walk up and into the Falcon during the shooting for Force Awakens. I used to work for Lucasfilm and was on set for a few days. The Falcon was kept in a separate sound stage at Pinewood Studios. One of the most memorable moments of my life.

It's crazy that the coolest thing ever, doesn't really exist. The Falcon and Darth Vader are why I love Star Wars so much. The Falcon is the chariot of the Rebellion!
@astro-blaster4190 Жыл бұрын
If you believe in an infinite universe, which many scientists have shifted back to, then there would actually be a real falcon and Vader out there. Every possibility imaginable can happen. Even Vader fighting a Xenomorph with his lightsaber and Hudson piloting the Millenial Falcon. Check it out.

Guess Han had another hyperdrive malfunction and the Falcon became a time-machine.
@smokedbeefandcheese41447 ай бұрын
@@twistedyogert The implications of this are funny. Considering you can only go to hyper space in a like special lane or whatever to my understanding that would mean as soon as he appeared in that universe he would not be able to go to hyper speed. And would only be able to do so upon returning back to the Star Wars time. Unless in this hypothetical hyper space is just another word for sub space which could be possible.

Iconic ship, is a understatement. Best so far ever built and conceived for a in space adventure movie The word "EPIC" sums this design this up.

Set building and scale model "mashing" to get new ships just completely blows my mind... like, the detail on those ships is unbelievable, and the inside of the Falcon with all of the tubes and whatnot hanging all over the walls. Incredible.

In the early models of the Falcon, the cockpit was mounted in between the front mandibles. It remained there until Lucas decided to relocate it to the side of the ship in subsequent models.

I remember watching Space 1999 back in the '70s late Saturday nights as a kid and loved it. About 20 years ago I got the whole series on DVD and for the most part it's not too bad but it does have a lot of warts, wrinkles, and stretches. The Eagles, Hawks, and other vehicles are great and very realistic. The spacesuits look like they're right out of 2001 with subtle differences. As for the moon breaking orbit with Earth and hurdling out of the solar system is hilarious. The tidal stresses alone would've wrecked Earth and without resupply from Earth everyone on the moon would've starved to death if the nuclear explosion didn't rip it apart instead, fortunately it wasn't written that way and we got a moon that could travel faster than light, slowdown at a planet and they takeoff again even though the moon appeared to just coast from planet to planet. Then it travels though a black hole, meets all kinds of alien bad guys, gets and atmosphere, etc. I still can't figure out why it was cancelled. :)

Beautifully done. Very interesting history. I love the Falcon!! However… I have one correction (which may only be a matter of opinion) but the crown for “the most iconic starship in cinema history” would actually go to the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek. She is the grand dame of all iconic starships. The Falcon comes second, I’m afraid. 😁

Great info! Something I've wondered for years: Were the exterior Falcon sets built for ANH and ESB full-size? They always looked like they were scaled down to me. There's an exterior shot of Chewie yelling inside the cockpit (at Han, on Hoth) and he looks gigantic, filling the cockpit much more so than in the interior shots. Another question: the cross-section you showed has a label for "gun well with rotating core." I can't figure out what could possibly rotate about the gun core, given how the laser cannons are attached. What rotates there?

K Mayne LEGO set* and no it’s not impressive, it’s ridiculously priced and has practically no interior (which it seriously SHOULD OF HAD since it's suppose to be a UCS set, and considering the price it’s absolutely inexcusable.) it may look nice but that’s practically the only thing it has going for it...

I'm about to start building my 1:1 scale of the 2 1/2 foot movie prop used in Empire Strikes Back which has a metal armature on the interior which includes an interior with full lighting, the kit made available by Model Space/DeAgostini. The kit as it comes is beautiful, however between Shapeways 3D printing and custom Photo Etch from Paragrafix this model is a spectacular crown jewel for any Star Wars fan and certainly for any Scale modeler. Loved this video, great inspiration.

Thanks for the upload! My ALL-TIME favorite ship! I never could understand the 'piece of junk' thing! Maybe, that's just how they saw it in that galaxy. Me? What I wouldn't do to take that thing to work everyday! The Falcon and lightsabers..stories unto themselves. Simply bad-ass! Judging by the history of the trilogy, it's amazing that we even got it! As for the Falcon, were budget costs also the reason the escape pod was originally missing? I know they answered this in 'Solo', but I'm asking from real point of view. The radar disc was resolved in 'ROTJ'. No question there.
