I agree that the mind hates abiding in the now. I have a strong tendency toward depression and this is depressing for the mind. I always find myself thinking about everything that is wrong with now, and my mind always starts planning what needs to be done next, as you mentioned. A lot of hindrances come up. Its not pleasant, so its probably working.

This one stood out for me Pablo. I think because for some reason, I have been wearily defaulting to that route of practise, almost exclusively. Somehow self inquiry and a lot of the other angles mentioned kept being dead ends for me. Encouraging to hear this and I think i may finally be feeling some initial traction, after years of fruitless flailing! Guess that’s why this ties in and rings true. Loved the gunshot analogy for being sent down overthinking rabbit-holes! I was born with a howitzer in that department. Keep up the videos as it’s always relevant and helpful, for me anyway. Peace and love to you.

Some of your videos take me straight to the present moment, this is one of those. When I find myself coming out of it again today, I will simply briefly remember this, and I know that I'll 'click' straight back into it again. Thanks Pablo! I feel you are very knowledgeable on all aspects of awakening, and you're also a great communicator. Have you ever considered writing a book about this?

Thank you! The thought has crossed my mind but to be honest I don't know about a book. The thought did cross my mind to create a 20 pager with the main ideas and partner up with a good illustrator to make it nice to look at. Something different than the stuff out there.

Sounds good, sometimes books can be too long and make things seem more complicated than they really are. I'd certainly be interested to read something shorter that you might come up with though 👍

For several different reasons, I feel like this one is perfectly aligned with where I'm at currently. Only yesterday I really started noticing a very pernicious habit of anticipating the next moment, creeping in in various situations and obscuring the now. One thing caught my attention: you said "we can't really push and pull on anything there is except with the mind" - am I wrong in assuming this stillness you're talking about can be found not only in sitting, but, for instance, doing the dishes, walking etc. - so all the "activities" in which there is virtually no "choosing" of the mind, but only surrendering to whatever reality dictates and going with it? In a way, it isn't that different from perceiving the breath or involuntary shaking in TRE, or witnessing whatever emotions/thoughts come when sitting quietly, right? (Only, perhaps, the objects within the field of attention may differ slightly). What do you think? I'm curious because I very often struggle with ordinary practical doership and, conversely, am almost addicted to "doing nothing" which, it now seems to me, is often nothing but pushing against the unwanted future moment (of, say, doing chores)

Great question. It's not about activity as such, it has more to do with whether your mind has an underlying intent of its own versus simply responding adequately because there are no samskaras pulling it in different directions which may be tamasic (reluctance to act) or rajasic (compulsive activity). So this cannot be judged externally, you could be doing TRE and being mentally still while your body is shaking uncontrollably, but that mental stillness is not something you're doing, it's a cessation that's been cultivated.
