He was speaking States of Independence 2014, an event that was held at De Montfort University in Leicester. The meeting was chaired by David Bell, author of 'The Dirty Thirty: Heroes of the Miners' Strike' (Five Leaves Publications, 2009).

The Nottinghamshire Miners were the willing dupes of the British ruling class, and they got their just desserts -the closure of their own mines. A very rich man once said that he could buy one half of the working class to fight the other - Nottinghamshire miners proved him right.

Scargill should have called a national ballot. This bloke is spouting nonsense about the Nottinghamshire miners. A national ballot would have settles it - all out or not. Talking out his arse.

On strike for a full year 1984/1985, Closed down my pit, Cwm Colliery in South Wales in1986. Betrayed by Notts.

your pit was probrebly losing the country milions in subsidies, would you keep spending on a credit card when you cant make enough to pay it off, this was the issue back in 1984
