@@trs105 It's very helpful, but it's hard for a rider to identify exactly how fast they're going on a run up. Or exactly what the wind is doing. I mean even the relationship between how you pre-load, or compress, your suspension before a hit can totally change your trajectory. Not just distance but basically the fore aft movement of being tail heavy or nose heavy. The crazy thing is they probably don't use any hard numbers to build these things. It's likely all general feel and experience. They know how steep it can or cannot be. How far. Etc. And when they get it wrong somebody really pays the price for testing it, like the initial builds of the Darkfest rocket launchers.

@@TeddyParker That is how we did it back in the late 60's. All trial and error. A pack of kids with stingrays, army surplus folding shovels, buckets of water carried up the bluff from the river, and a whole lot of youthful extra energy. Working our way up from the 5 & 6 foot "baby jumps" to the "big air" dropoffs of 16 to 18 feet, we thought we were Evel Knievel back then. No helmets, no pads. Thought we were 10 feet tall and bulletproof. Lucky we never got seriously injured. Lots of fun, good memories.
