Cracking The Cryptic

Cracking The Cryptic

3 жыл бұрын

This is one of the most exceptionally brilliant puzzles we've ever seen. You can try Ri Sa's incredible Thermocouples sudoku here:
cracking-the-cryptic.web.app/...
Rules for Thermocouples:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Cells separated by a knight's move (in chess) may not contain the same digit. Digits increase along thermometers, starting at the bulb end.
The puzzle was published first on our discord server (link below) and then on Logic Masters Germany here:
logic-masters.de/Raetselporta...

@@fitzpeters So look at the bottom middle 9. The middle right spot is either 2 or 4. all corners have a number. If the top 1/3 is a 1, it rules out the middle row. This means the same 1/3 has to be in the middle right. Then you move to the middle 9. Left and middle row are both ruled out of the 1 because they are in the same lines. the right row has both corners filled in so that means the middle right value has to be the same 1/3 pair. and all 3 of these spots are the same value. I would never have spotted this, myself

@11:00 As soon as Simon found the relationship being the second pair of Themros in the top-right, my brain jumped ahead as he was explaining to recognize that the 7 digits within are also set 2-8 because the bottom Thermos' 1s below see both bulbs by column, and the 9s at the ends see both ends by the same box. Oh yes, this is going to be quite the clever puzzle to watch unfold!

Absolutely beautiful construction. Seriously impressive stuff there. Wonderful puzzle, wonderful video, thanks for showcasing it. Far more impressive than the original miracle, to my mind, in that it's... Just thermo knight. Nothing fancy in that ruleset - it's thermo knight constructed in a way to imply three extra regions (one size 6, one size 7, one size 9), but rules wise it's just thermo knight.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at 23:05, a 5 could've been placed in the middle region because a 5 in R4C4 would rule out both options he has highlighted there. So the 5 goes in R6C4.

You're having a laugh / you're kidding me / you're joking. I've not heard the exact phrasing before but "having a laugh", "having a giggle", "having a giraffe" are all pretty common in the UK. I'm assuming that Jesse / Jessie comes from a cockney slang rhyme, whereby there is someone called Jessie whose surname rhymes with either "laugh" or "giggle". Couldn't find anything on Google either though.
