Salamun alaikum. I was searching for the book by the esteemed Professor and I came across this video. His book Al Mu'jizat was referred to in another video YT21 of the Marvelous Quran Channel. I am a non Arabic speaking person who became a Muslim and I am searching for a way to better understand the Quran. I am amazed to find this video and I can understand the meaning of locution as referred to in YT21.

Oallahi, Dr. Bassam the more I listen the more I get amazed. I had the same type of questions about the miraculousness of the quran and your research has done a great deal to understand the point of its infinite miraculousness as it is divine.

47:16 Surah Al-Fatihah

I love how he described the ibadah as a gift - ma sha Allah La kowata ila bellah - a most beautiful godly gift indeed from The Most Merciful Lord. Correction noteworthy in sha Allah: the 9th Verse quoted in the list of Qur'anic verses on the slide at 33:40 **مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ** is from Surat An-Nisa (the women) not Al-imran.

i notice so many similarities to the capabilities of the english language. english is used in many of the same ways he is suggesting . for example he mentioned that malik youmil deen, the owner of time has never been phrased that way before because mulk is applied to the material things not immaterial. but we do that so often in english with our metaphors where we play with language to come up with idyllic and innovative thoughts. i do concede that the quran is divine in the context of the arabs of that time but how is it not possible now? i see a very plausible way for someone to write the same way in arabic now because we are capable of it in english as seen with hemingway and joyce for example, even the prose of the bible sounds as beautiful and divine as the quran. i don’t read arabic books other than the quran so idk if the arabs have progressed their writing skills but i can’t imagine the arabs not having a hemingway that has advanced the language to concise nuanced and eloquent language. that’s why i’m not entirely convinced by this lecture because i still see a possibility of arabs growing enough in literary prowess to make the same semantic structure but i don’t believe they could have encapsulated the qurans contents fully. it seems to me like the lecturer is just admiring the poetry of the language like we would in a literary analysis class but i don’t see how that is proof of divinity. i’d appreciate if native fluent speakers could help me figure out what i’m missing because i’m coming from this from a predominantly anglicized perspective and american culture that i was raised in where these things seem very common in our linguistic history. i’m native in arabic but not fluent so i can appreciate his analysis of the arabic words. i’m of the opinion that the semantics of quranic arabic can be adopted in modern arabic writing to rival the prose but an impossibility in a complete replacement of the quran that matches its context, nuances, knowledge, and consistency. i suppose in a way god had to dumb down the language to bedouins to understand and the quran was his perfect ability at finding the balance between coherence and eloquence while remaining timeless.
