I think it makes enough sense for the dart gun to weigh half as much as the junk needed to make it, just means you only used half of the components that make up the junk.

Nah it still wouldn't make sense given the dart gun model. The entire paint gun, which weighs five, is retained. The entire toy car is also present. Even if we assumed that most of the weight in the surgical tubing and poison gland have been removed, the dart gun should still weigh 6 units for the combined paint gun and toy car.

I think that the flares scaring off abominations is a reference to some Monster movies like Peter Jackson's King Kong or Alien. As in King Kong,a flare was used to scare off giant insects during the pit sequence. And in Alien,they used flamethrowers to try and scare off the xenomorph. Edit: I know that it's a very big trope,I'm just saying it could be a direct reference to these kind of movies.

Oddly enough, you don't need a perfectly straight barrel for the projectile to fly out of the end. Makes sense since it'll go the path of least resistance. And if the barrel is thick enough to just bounce the projectile if it hits the side a bit. Kinda like how if you throw a punch and someone hits your arm to the side, it'll deviate off path a bit. Source: That time Demolition Ranch fired rifles with bent barrels. Including one barrel bent at a 90 or 180 degree angle. Yes, back towards the operator.

I can't remember the name (Edited:"Krummlauf" is the name) but the Germans during ww2 developed barrels that had 30,(I think 45),60,and 90 degree angles to allow shooting around corners and mounted on tanks to kill any climbers or nicknamed "pest" and sometimes "roaches". They discovered around 100 to 200 rounds could be fired before the barrel breaks but also discovered most bullets would chip the barrel and caused a spaling like effect and damaged the bullet normally.

Coincidental that you mentioned: "Finding Meaning when there is None" because I think the Developers are quite aware that fans and players will make their own meanings to things even if they didn't intend on it. Mostly this is due to Santiago, the artist Robobrain at Vault 118 in Far Harbor, as he says that it is remarkable that people find meaning in his art where none was intended, if you choose and pass the speech check when discussing his "Kitten with a Toy Rocket" painting, as he didn't put much effort in it and shipped it off as a commercial product that later became his most sold piece.

According to ingame notes, the Vertibird signal flare emits a smoke which is laden with some kind of electromagnetic tracer element. This will be picked up by sensors, and allow the 'Bird to find the location. This seems like a really complicated system, particularly considering the availability of "Distress Pulsers", the portable distress radio beacons used by the BoS. It would make more sense to me if summoning a Vertibird was done by throwing a "grenade" form of Distress Pulsers. In terms of game mechanics, it could have the exact same effect. If a visual indicator is wanted, a red, blinking light is pretty much as useful as a pillar of smoke, and might even have less impact on game performance.
@aaronblacke6425
@aaronblacke6425 Жыл бұрын
Tbh it is just the tech that is overly complicated but once you have it , it is safe and simple. Alot of random wastelanders could call a vertibird if you use just regular flares, grenades, etc. A distress beacon would be obvious and if a enemy finds it could easily come up with a plan using it aswell as let the enemy know you are working with advanced technology. What the brotherhood has is covert and distinct to their alert systems. The crazy part is the tech kinda actually exists. I work in construction and Spray materials on surfaces. Their are spray pistols that actually magnetize the material to help it attract to surfaces. It's pretty much like everyother spray pistol the difference is the magnetize one cost like 10k starting price
@patrikhjorth3291
@patrikhjorth3291 Жыл бұрын
@@aaronblacke6425 Thank you for responding, I didn't know about that kind of advanced spray painting technology. I would still argue that the "tracer smoke" is more complicated than the distress pulser, though. The distress pulser is a known technology, already in widespread use by BoS teams as shown in a particular quest in the game. They could be made resistant to tampering by requiring a code, or even biometrics, to operate. To have a _smoke flare_ emit a traceable electromagnetic signal that can be picked up far enough away that a Vertibird can be sent to its location... that's just redundant, not to mention just as sensitive to tampering as a distress pulser, if not more so. And yes, I know I'm talking about "realism" in a game that features super mutants, but I think the "magical smoke flare" is less consistent with the worldbuilding.

@StupidIsMyJob

If anything, I'd like to imagine that the vertibird grenade is a two-in-one item, with the "EM frequency" or whatever being for long range uses only, given sophisticated equipment in Fallout can take up entire rooms if not thought out enough, and the smoke is a short-range visual indicator for pilots when they come into view. Because being given orders via radio about a long-range frequency, and basically flying blind the *entire* way isn't the most efficient. It's better to signal, the grenade autobroadcasts a particular quadrant, then pilots nav the last few thousand feet, especially if you end up calling for a ride in a city like Boston.

In regards to the dart gun, I feel it’s worth noting that Scorpions are notorious for their whole “The smaller they are, the more venom they’ll inject you with” deal. If that still applies, then I suppose it’s possible that the massive Scorpions of the wasteland mainly just stab you with their stingers and only inject a minuscule amount of venom that if concentrated as much as it is in the dart gun would be mildly paralytic.

for the nailer the high fire rate makes some sense in theory, it has nothing to eject so it can save time since it has no need to make sure the spent case is clear and due to not using combustion (im assuming it is pneumatic) it wouldn't need to worry about over heating, so in theory it could be Jerry rigged to be full auto and rather rapid at that also assuming it works similar to a real life nail gun some minor jerry rigging would be needed to disable the safety any way, though i dont have a nail gun lying around im willing to destroy or id be tempted to see it i could make such a thing work but till someone does it's only in theory.

It seems clear that the idea of _Lonesome Road,_ effective or not, is that you _are_ setting off some sort of "pocket nuke" warhead and repeating the great sin of the Old World. Key to that DLC is how, unlike the three other DLCs for _New Vegas,_ you can just turn around and go back to the Mojave the way you came in. You have to choose to walk the Road, and to walk it, you have to nuke it. That leads, or _tries_ to lead, to the decision at its end.

It's a shame that you can't modify the flare guns to become grenade launchers, since many were given that exact modification in modern history. Especially in New Vegas, where there's 25mm grenades, which fits the caliber used by the Leucht close enough. You could also have a stock as a modification, since they had one too. It seems like wasted potential.

For as bad as the pipe weapons are after the early game, i think they're the perfect weapon for someone who just started. You get three different kinds and each can be built a specific way, allowing players to find out what kind of gun fits them better. So once they find better weapons, they know that they prefer automatics or pistols or single-shot rifles etc. My only real complaint is that there was no pipe shotgun (that made it into the game) nor some kind of melee equivalent like a makeshift club you can craft into multiple lengths or something.

Praise Atom the dart gun! I know it says its an old paint gun, but if you look at a caulking gun it clearly looks to be one of those instead. The long rod is used to push the silicon caulking from the back, and I can see it being re-used to launch darts.

The caulking gun would also make good guide rails for the dart. @jmdesertadventures803
@jmdesertadventures803 Жыл бұрын
@Shizonrhu sure go attach a slingshot to a caulking gun and pull the trigger to fire it. The rod slides free with no pressure on the trigger, but when you pull it, the trigger binds on the rod and forces it forward to squeeze the tube. Like I said the trick would be getting the trigger to bind until you pull it, then the rod slides free. I agree that the caulking gun would work I'm just hoping by drawing out the comments I might get ideas for one in IRL. (EDIT) You could modify the trigger to just let the rod slide free anyway and make a sear to grab the disk on the front of the rod.

My buddy and I are big into firearms, and we built a pipe gun. Of course, the hardest part is the receiver, which we just used a rifle’s receiver and made the pipe gun around it. A couple things to note: a pipe “rifle” is a contradiction in terms, essentially, as the pipe has no rifling. It’s essentially a smooth bore musket. Our pipe gun was chambered in .32, and was ridiculously inaccurate. It also had a very short shelf life, particularly the pipe. While we used steel rigid pipe, the heat and gas from firing (as well as the bullet striking the pipe interior laterally) warped the pipe to an unsafe degree after only 10 shots. Even before this, escaping gas and heat made wearing gloves and safety glasses mandatory. The bullet has no twist, and because the pipe is not machined to perfect diameter, the bullet was “rattling” down the pipe. Imagine throwing a tennis ball down a pipe that is just a bit larger than the ball. We initially shot for 20 yards, and you could hit RoP right on one shot and completely miss bottom left the next. Additionally, we lost so much speed in the pipe that the bullet would sometimes fail to puncture the 1/2 plywood the target was on. The pipe also was so light that keeping the firearm level was challenging and irritating, making aiming take longer. Not good if you’re relying on this weapon for personal defense. Pipe weapons like this are next to useless at any kind of range. They could perhaps be useful in CQC, where aim doesn’t matter.

Spore plants were a bane in Fallout 2. Not because they are dangerous or anything, but when you encounter group of them fighting human NPC, NPC tend to pick up those damn spikes and throw them back and as result these fights were going on forever. Oh, and about flares in F2. There's one madlad on KZfaq, who weaponized flares to beat the game. Flares take absurdly low AP to throw and that guy used aimed shots to throw flares directly to Enclave soldiers' heads to knock them out. He proceeded then to disarm those poor fools. Turns out power armor won't save your dome from a well placed flare.

30:00 ~ when your talking about the rate of fire of a nailgun, the fun part is either the PC or workers must have modified these nailguns, because a standard nailgun has a trigger plate on the front as well as the trigger on the grip. The rate of fire is actually accurate, because the nail is *usually* only triggered to be fired by pressing it against the board while pulling the trigger, which is done in a swift stamping motion, and if the trigger plate is held down or modified, nothing is stopping the nailgun from dumping its nails as fast as nailgun-ly possible.

The dart gun is so right it blows my mind. Ok, so I have used and understood paint sprayers for the last 20 years. You have got a lot of things right about them but also a few things wrong. You might be surprised by the bits you didn't understand. Yes they use compressed air... For paint. Since this isn't for paint the power now comes from the surgical tubing. But the "cocking rod" is the best bit. That rod is present on today's sprayers, it's used to fine tune the area and flow of the spray. With a slight modification I can see this completely working! I have no idea how the scorpion poison gets on the darts though... That's a mystery

My theory for the pipe guns is with the great war going on the us government and/or some organization released psa's teaching the public how to make them possibly that article in the magazine was about making them based off of a design common in Detroit pre war so then after the bombs dropped the survivors made pipe weapons and/or taught their descendants how to make them resulting in them being extremely common in the wasteland with plenty of scrap

The M4 sherman featured is an amalgamation of different Sherman’s, but it’s an early M4 box hull. You can tell by the hatch bulges with appliqué plates attached to them, as well as the appliqué plates along the side near the ammo stowage. The turret is an early cast turret, you can also tell by the appliqué attached to the side of the turret where the inside needed to be shaved down for mounting the gun sights and elevation controls. The cannon is definitely a M3 75mm gun. The it also features the early-mid war 3 piece transmission housings. It also has the track skirts of a late war box hull, most crews actually cut those off anyways since they had a propensity for getting brush jammed up there. It also actually appears to have the bolt face/water splash protector, a small flap of metal on the transmission housing which protected the bolts that held it in place, helping to keep bullets from shearing off the bolt heads. It had the unintended effect of helping to keep some water splash from running right up the hull and into the drivers face. Basically, she’s an early war M4 box hull, with the early cast 75 turret, and she’s in a mid-late war configuration. From context clues like her appliqué armor on the turret, we can surmise that she was never seriously damaged in combat, so she never saw repair and refit, which usually when a sherman needed to go back in for heavy repairs they’d often receive upgrades. Basically, she was an early sherman who survived through the whole war
