You should have some air conduits going down into the mine blowing fresh air into the mine expelling the (co2) carbon dioxide

I know it's possible, but I have to think some of that may be played up for TV. You're sending 3 people down into a mine with "bad air" and not trying to pump some good air down first (at least) ... that's just crazy! Especially when the camera man didn't really sign up to risk his life for opal!

Always send a lit candle to see if oxygen is good. There can be all kind of toxic air in mines usually from thermal vents

There can be explosive gasses also, so.. lol. Maybe research the history before you go underground in an abandoned mine. Be a great place to start anyways

There should be carbon dioxide detection sensors in place as a safety indicator at all times if it is unsafe make it safe as possible there should be risk assessments at all time incase the worst cernareos

please for the love of god take a CO-2 down CO2 detector and if your able to get an duel line air line down ( one will take the air with CO2 out of the shraft one will bring fresh air in) this will stop you from feeling sick or lack of air
