I disagree. While Palmer has been getting goals 40 percent of them were penalties another player could have taken, but he insisted he take them and would not allow them, getting the credit for them when he had no right to. His numbers in goals in open play which is much more difficult than a penalty goal to achieve were average. But more importantly and why he could not get into the Man City side and was then sold, while Palmer has scored an average amount of goals if you exclude penalties, he has been the defensive liability for Chelsea especially on the wing, weakening their defense and so causing Chelsea to draw and lose games they should have won or drawn. Modern footballers of top teams have to be good defensively and offensively and the next Chelsea manager will have to insist he understand, participate in and fight for the team defensively as well as offensively if Chelsea are to have a team that achieves the top 4 status they want to achieve. The media objective of putting Palmer in the headlines for scoring no matter where Chelsea end up in the league is not the objective of Chelsea football club who want a team for the top 4, so his weaknesses cannot be ignored, just as they were not ignored at Man City who know what is needed from players to be a top team. First of all thank you for the love! But I don’t really agree with you, if you exclude his penalties in the premier league he still has 13 goals and 11 assists that’s not average! And without Cole Palmer this season Chelsea would have been fighting for relegation, he also isn’t insisting on taking penalties, he’s just the penalty taker so of course he wants to take them, he deserves all the praise he gets, he totally saved Chelsea and transformed them. @@Footystories. You have a selective memory. He is the penalty taker now, but he was not before and on two different instances almost had a brawl with other players who wanted to take penalties, breaking the managers rule that whoever is confident should be allowed to take the penalty. As for 13 goals and 11 assists, you are not going to break any records with those kind of figures. It's nothing special, but people behave like something special has been achieved. You also forget that against the top 4 teams Cole Palmer delivered nothing, but one penalty, worth noting, yet again we are faced with the glaring point that if not for the penalty, he would have contributed almost nothing to those games. He achieved his high goal stats, not by fighting the opposition, but by fighting his own team mates, ensuring only he took penalties. The 7 points gained from playing the top 4 sides were all obtained only when Sterling was playing with his important contribution and experience saving Chelsea against Arsenal, Tottenham when they were top of the table, Liverpool, and Man City twice. You have to remember, if he was delivering nothing in the offensive objectives of those games and we know he is a defensive liability, his only contribution to those games Chelsea were not defeated in was to put Chelsea at a higher risk of defeat. Take those 7 points others in the team, or most predominantly Sterling, contributed to in those games away from Chelsea and they would be fighting relegation. But that is so conveniently ignored by the media to brain wash the public to ignore it too. All selective memory. If you want to achieve great things and be a top 4 side, you have to deal with reality, not manipulated false narratives set by those whose objectives have nothing to do with football and nothing to do with Chelsea work to become a top 4 side.
