The lost kingdom that always interested me is the Urartian civilization that preceded Armenia, but there are so many others - Dilmun, Yamhad, Elam... Millions of people lived out their lives in those societies, and today we know hardly anything of them.

And that's all thanks to the Assyrians completely and utterly decimating them! Seriously, Elam was squished by Assyria (but tbh, as an Iraqi, idc since Elam was responsible for the destruction of the III dynasty of Ur and constantly fought Babylonia and sumer, so they had it coming) and Urartu was Assyria's arch nemesis and sadly it was a matter of time before the neo-assyrian empire would wipe them off the face of the earth.

The Mitanni capital city of Washukanni has never been identified although there are a few locations “mounds” where the city is most likely located. It will be one of the most exciting and illuminating discoveries when this ancient capital is unearthed-(I hope it happens in my lifetime)-if there are tablets there (maybe even a library!) that could very much rewrite the history of the middle east and civilization. -I have been fascinated by the Mitanni for quite some time and I am very happy to share this video with you all 😊 I hope you enjoy, and it stirs your curiosity!

The treaty between the Mitanni and the Egyptians is a significant milestone because the Gods invoked by the Mitanni to witness the treaty would later be known as Vedic gods ie Indra , Varuna and Agni. I loved the drama that the intro brought to this video! Kudos, Epimetheus. And I really appreciated how you added more personality to the Mitanni kings through facial expressions. They appeared fierce, as though staring down the viewer. I had commented on the Chhatrapati video that a biographical style video needed more of a personality and storyline, and I think you've made huge strides with this video. The facial expression for personality and the intro for more drama and building anticipation.

I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said: "two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert ... near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lips, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings, Look on my Works ye Mighty, and despair! Interesting how this video skips parting with the fact that the Mitannis spoke Rig Vedic Sanskrit/Old Indic. Also that they most likely migrated from near the BMAC, the same region from where Indo-Aryan intrusions into India took place. They weren't Hurrian, they were Indo-Aryans who came to rule a Hurrian speaking populace.

One of my favourite forgotten historical entities is ironically one that is neglected in this video; the kingdom of Alashiya in Cyprus. It was also mentioned extensively in the correspondence among the Bronze age kings, one of them being directly between the king of Alashiya and the Egyptian Pharaoh, calling each other "brother" as you mentioned in the video. Alashiya was most famous for being the primary exporter of copper in the entire region, which in turn is reflected in name of the metal ("copper" comes from Latin "cuprus", itself a corruption of the term "aes Cyprium" meaning "Cypriot metal"). Its borders are unknown (it might have covered the entire island or just a portion) and the inhabitants spoke a very poorly attested language that preceded Greek (itself arriving after the establishment of Mycenaean cities at various parts of the island).

I can even understand Mitanni language since it is same as in Indian Language ! :O Here are some similarities between Mitanni and Ancient Indian : 1> The Mitanni word - "Nakhushshu" (For a Professional Army) is similar to Ancient Indian - '"Akshshohuni" (Which also meant a Army Division). 2> Mittani name for Armor - > Sharyani Ancient Indian Language -> Asharya means Protect, Ani is probably a vowel 3> Mitanni name of King -> Tushratta Ancient Indian name of a Legendary King -> Dashratta 3> Tushratta's sons -> Shuttama II and Shattiwasa In Indian Language, Name like PuruShuttama is very common. Su -> Son, Uttama -> Ideal. Shuttama means "Ideal Son" Shattiwasa is probably Shakti (Power), Washa (To wield), Shattiwasa -> "One who wields Power" Funny how Im Indian and have no clue regarding Mitanni Empire or their language, till I watched this video but i can still translate their language easily since its very similar to Indian Languages :D Maybe Ancient Indians were actually Mitanni ? Hey man, thanks for sharing! Funny thing is, I might have "Mitanni ancestry" and I have never ever heard about Mitanni! I think it is because of its relatively short existence compared to other ancient empires. Also, their population consisted of different groups, like Hurrians, Amorrians and Assyrians, so I guess it is hard to find hard evidence of the Mitanni empire. Nonetheless very insightful! I will keep an eye on them in the future.

Anything has to do with Kurds and their history is suppressed by design. After the partition of their land my the British, everything Kurdish became Arabic, Turkish or Persian. And that’s because the Kurds resisted the British occupation, Churchill even ordered the RAF to use chemical weapons against them.

Regarding this video - amazing job with the history of the Mitanni as it occurred after they established their state, and amazing artwork as always - but I am a tad bit disappointed that you did not bring up their origins as an Indo-Aryan charioteering elite who probably arrived as mercenaries in response to the destabilization brought about the Hittite rampage through Mesopotamia that culminated in the sacking of Babylon.

Never heard of the Mittani, though it is only in the past two weeks that I have been exploring the pre-Achaemenid Empire world. Not nearly as obscure for hobby historians as other things listed here, but I find the history of the Roman Empire exiled in Greece (later called the Byzantine Empire) to be fascinating and completely obscure when brought up in everyday conversations, though I am glad that in recent years the subject has been getting more light. Another interest of mine would have to be the ancient peoples of the USA and the variant Eurasian Steppe folk.

That makes alot of sense, they are both Indo European and more specifically they are from Indo Aryan sub group of Indo Europeans not to mention it was still relatively early in divergence of the group where part went to India, another to Iran and another to Syria, meanwhile others went to Europe in the west and some as far east as western china, this is why there are still to this day so many similarities between the language's from northern india to western Europe, we are from the same people originally, even the traditional pre christian religions of western Europe have alot of similarities to dharmic religions
