My favorite conspiracy theory was the mystery behind the red eyes of zombies. It was known fact back then that blue eyes was for Richthofen and yellow eyes was for Samantha Maxis. We all thought that the red eyes behind the zombies were Dr. Monty or the Shadow Man. Turns out that they don’t meant anything according to the devs.

This makes so much sense about them not knowing they couldn’t use the red eyes. It’s actually fucking hilarious that they did it because they didn’t know they weren’t supposed to be red.

It’s possible that samantha was controlling the zombies from the giant to ZNS since that’s in the fractured timeline so it’s a different samantha but after primis goes to mob of the dead the apothicans then take control of the zombies to kill primis themselves and take the summoning key to release the shadow man(it’s possible the shadow man was controlling the zombies and was sort of “notified” by the apothicans and then started controlling the zombies). This would be why the zombies eye colours change to red. Maybe red indicates apothican control. I just realised, what if the colour of the zombies(in the aether story) indicate how far into the corruption of the apothicans they are. For instance, richtofen was corrupted by the apothicans, however, he was mostly using it for himself and to not help them so his eye colour is blue(away from red on the light spectrum). Then maxis is closer to red but still somewhat uses it for himself due just wanting to save his daughter which is why his is yellow. Then samantha is a little girl so has less control over herself and mind so the apothicans can easily manipulate her into what they want but her eye colour is orange and not red because she’s still using it to take revenge on group 935(with the apothicans possibly wanting to destroy group 935 anyway but I wouldn’t understand the motivation behind it so I’m not sure). Then any being that is an apothican or is soully using the apothican power for the apothicans has red eyes like brutus or shadow man

I think that red eyes means two things first no controller, but also red eyes can have a controller if the controller has a red color to them. The maps I think this is the case is revaluations and vanguard. In rev the evil keepers were colored red to differentiate them from the shadows keepers and so they just made the zombies have red eyes to match. Also Gorod Krovi is the only map to not have keepers in it so they made them have red eyes because no keepers were controlling the zombies. Whereas all other maps have good/bad keepers in them to control the zombies and only in rev did the bad keepers actually get a different color than just orange/yellow. I also think that the Samantha voice is also used when keepers are controlling the zombies. Maybe because she was in the MPD for so long they just kept what she would say because most of them couldn’t speak

I would like to say I just remembered the early group 935 audio logs and when they created a zombie and started trying to give it orders, I'm now imagining that they had red eyes since that test was done before Samantha was sent to the moon. In that point in time the zombies were just simply resurrected by 115 and no one was controlling them but since it was confirmed that red eyes mean nothing I just feel like I'm talking out of my ass but I just wanted shed more of a visual on a radio log with this information. (Then again I'm not a theorist nor a lore expert but I have a basic understanding of the lore and I just find it fascinating that we are still getting answers to decade old questions that can help visualize moments in the early aether storyline)

In Mob/Alcatraz its definitely the Shadow Man controlling them. We have many audio confirmations of audio files in the prequel prison lore. The shadown man possibly knows about Richtofen messing up when the cronorium changes and thus has instructed the warden: You will know when your time to serve will come. He tells him sometime eventually he will find richtofen in the prison and when he does his blood is what will free the apothicons. In return the Warden gets his very own purgatory in a pocket dimension.

I’m thinking that the red eyed zombies represent either a fractured universe, or there is no one in control and they are more aggressive/ out of control, which would be ironic if that is the case, they’re not in control but out of control

My idea about Brutus is that since we are in limbo, some conditions may still be applied, like the warden being leader of the prison, so it makes sense why Brutus has control over them but other areas of red eye zombies are like you said "no control zombies." But i also believe in idea of the red eye zombies are just controlled by the most powerful creature in the area.

I always just thought it was due to the fact that since it’s around a pocket dimension, it’s mainly due to the fact that its bound by evil.

i still prefer to believe it’s just the devil/satan/whatever in control and the only reason there are zombies etc in their purgatory is just because of the existence of richtofen’s lab and brutus’ inevitable transformation

I remember being a kid and watching so much videos on mob of the dead I remember hearing about the real prison myth about the red eyes in cell 14 in D block people thought it was connected to that myth or that it was the devil who control the zombie it was the first time we had red eyes zombies and with the hell theme it wasn’t really dumb

It's honestly funny people in the zombies community are blowing out of proportion that red eyes comment from the developer and trying to come up with lore theories, the dev clearly states he was a campaign/multiplayer guy that then moved other to Zombies and probably wasn't kept in touch with the mode's lore from the looks of it, hell he states BO2 zombies was made by a new team so any lore veterans from WAW and BO were absent most likely. If eye color didnt matter they wouldn't have traded yellow eyes for blue ones when completing the Moon easter egg.

Something important did happen in between zetsubou and gorod though. That would be a possible reason for the change of eye colors. Primis went to Alcatraz. I believe that red eyes mean, something inhuman, something godlike is controlling the zombies. Or perhaps red is the default eye color and they just simply change from red to yellow when Samantha ales control over the zombies or blue when richtofen does. We never got to play the version of mob of the dead when it goes as planned. We only got to play blood when everything changed in the kronorium. So perhaps by going to Alcatraz in between ZNS and GK when primis got the blood vials a new timeline or path (still in the cycle) but maybe those events follows a timeline from there on where no one is in control. Every map after GK the zombies has red eyes. There is only two exceptions. Classified but the reason there is obvious. It still takes place in the Ultimis timeline before moon. And alpha omega, but then we know the avogadro is in control. But every other map has red eyes, GK, Reveleations, Blood and Tag. So it would either mean red is default color or something beyond human like apothicons are controllers

It’s been confirmed that the Red eyes don’t mean anything at all. It was just a color scheme that they decided to go with.

I really hope they bring Mob of the Dead back in BO6, as well as a resurrection pack to bring back maps like Kino and Moon. But Mob is hands down my favorite map, i absolute adore the aesthetic and had so much fun on it… I know it’s likely a stupid dream but I can still have a wish list
