During the interview with the Italian television (RAI), Barshim casually popped up behind Tamberi, kinda videobombing it 🤣 The Italian just grabbed him and went on saying "I can't wait to tell my children about this when I'll have them, if I'll have them. @@chris4231 Apolitical countries do not and cannot exist. The Olympics is about national pride and the avoidance of war by sublimating such aggression into sport. If it were not, athletes could compete as members of their race or gender or religion or social class or their town of birth or their culture. But Japan has no Tokyo team, nor a Shinto one. Most athletes, instead, compete on purely national terms - terms which are inherently political - just as political, in fact, as your claims of the Olympics ever being apolitical.

Nedasekau missed the jump at 2.35 and raised it to 2.37 for his second attempt. While he did clear 2.37, the miss means he was already placed behind Tamberi and Barshim who both had zero misses up until the bar went to 2.39 where no one cleared it. That's why Nedasekau finished behind Barshim and Tamberi. So no, according to the rules Nedasekau should not be given a gold.

This is the easiest decision ever made. I doubt that you find five athletes in the whole Olympic village who would decide otherwise in that situation. Fair enough. To those few people who think this shouldn’t be allowed you have to bear in mind that both of them had already failed 3 times to clear the same height. Why have a jump off when they’d effectively already had a jump off when they tried, but failed, to clear the same height? It’s clearly a tied result.

this just remind everyone that athletes are competitive people who work very hard to achieve their goals, sometimes people are overly focused on the Olympic medal tables and forget that behind every single medal won or lost, there are real human beings that worked extremely hard to reach for the medals. the athletes that didn't win anything are often forgotten, and the athletes that won everything in their traditionally skilled events are often treated as granted as if they didn't have to put in any hardwork at all.
