As for Monkees songs there's quite a few great ones. 'Stepping Stone', Last Train To Clarkesville', 'Papa Gene's Blues', 'Valerie'. The list goes on and on. They get disparaged as the Pre-Fab Four for using The Wrecking Crew in the studio, but everyone from The Beach Boys to Frank Sinatra was sing them. And they were bigger than a lot of "Real Bands". In face the real musicians in the group, Peter Tork and especially Mike Nesmith were pissed when the first went into the studio and found out the tracks were done and they would only be singing on them. They had to fight to do any of the music themselves. There's a couple of good documentaries about it.

Love this song. And it brings to mind Rainbow Valley by(The)Love Affair, which is cool. Also Evelasting Love and Bringing on Back the Good Times, by The Love Affair. Great.

Thank you for doing this, it's always appreciated when you do one of my suggestions. When 'The Monkees' first started out the TV company wouldn't let them write their own songs or even play on some of their tracks, that changed later after the TV series took off, the lads threatened to walk out unless they were allowed to do their own stuff and play all their instruments too. This featured, Micky Dolenz on lead vocals, with Peter Tork and Davy Jones on backing vocals.

Fun song about suburbia. The riff is sharp 👌. Because of the TV show the band were never really taken seriously much to their dismay. Cool ending !

Beatles/Kinks and a dollop of California hippy! A great band with many great songs. I could name 10, and someone else could name 10, and they'd all be worth a listen. I like Randy Scouse Git, Words, What Am I Doing Hanging Round and Last Train To Clarksville, but as I said, they had lots of bangers. And Mike Nesmith had a fantastic solo song called Rio, the video is quite amusing.

I can hear the influence on Mrs Robinson melodies on this one - who would have thought it? Monkees cam a year before Simon and Garfunkel.....

A great Micky Dolenz vocal, and written by husband and wife team Gerry Goffin & Carole King……a few songs you should check out Goin Down, and some latter day Monkees songs ….. You Bring the Summer , She makes me laugh….from The Good Times Album.

Great reaction! My mum didn't like them and I hated them but my son, whose a DJ who plays mainly Indie music does, so onwards and upwards.

Pre Monkees, Davy Jones was an actor in Coronation Street, which is an iconic British soap that is still on today.

@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering I had one that was a real psycho. I loved my grandma dearly, but she was a real harriden. Violence was her usual MO. She used to beat us with her washing stick or anything else that came to hand. In fact, I was laughing with my mum about her yesterday 🤣🤣🤣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴‍☠️🇬🇧

@@colrhodes377 I know what you mean Col 😝.. my granny was a hard as nails auld Glasgow woman who was born when Queen Victoria was still alive .. 😳 She loved all her legion of grandchildren dearly , but a clip round the ear was a given for any visit .. and you’d best sit quiet and not fk around or else !! 😡 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I have always loved this song. Good choice, Adam! We know a couple who are like this song suggests, they have to have the best of everything and they want people to see that they have it. What people don't seem to realise is that most of the people who are like this, are up to their eyeballs in debt to keep up the pretence. Personally, I have never owned a brand new car or huge diamonds, and i don't see any reason to own them. I'm the woman in the sixties car and the twenties style clothes.

Howdy, Folks: I know every song from their first three albums and believe it or not, for what they were as a band, almost every song was hit material and very good. Too bad you can't just put on all three and see what I mean.

As a lad The Monkees show was aired on local television. The show was Marx Brothers humour with musical interludes. Yes, most of the band's bigger hits were written by song writing teams, but the band was a studio creation to match The Beatles (and other British pop invasion bands e.g. Herman's Hermits and The Dave Clark Five). Turns out the guys had talent and could work as a unit. A fun manufactured group that deserved the hits achieved. If you're interested in another covers band may I suggest The Leningrad Cowboys.

You know the British band The Members produced the absolute antithesis to this song - entitled "Sound of the Suburbs" first line's a classic: 'same old boring Sunday morning, old man's out washing the car...'
