I had the good fortune to be a monorail cast member for 3 years in the mid-1970s. Epcot groundbreaking was in 1976, my last year as a monorail CM. Mark IVs, the original WDW monorails, were all analog and we actually controlled the speed and braking. My understanding is that the Mark VIs are automated now and a cast member sits in the cab as a preventive measure if something goes wrong. Lots of good memories and I still consider it the best job I ever had. Disney was a completely different company than what it is today. Some of the friendships I made have lasted for decades into the present.

Years ago, when our kids were little, we were actually allowed to sit in the first seating area right by the monorail operator. It was fantastic, and I still remember just looking around and taking in all the technology that was available then. Thanks Disney for the best memory ever!

Years ago, we were fortunate enough to be able to RIDE the monorail cab with our nephew and youngest son...awesome experience! AND, it was the driver's last ride! Mantenganse alejado de las puertas...

The monorail was "The Future!" to me when I was a kid and I loved it. These days it's still "The Future!" so I haven't matured much. It is my all time favorite Walt Disney World ride!

We sure do live in an amazing world, Justin I got bad news today and I have been sitting here thinking I may have to give up on my photography (which actually started with a trip to Disney) & "what are we gonna do" and all of the panic because "now what?" Questions. Then while Staring at my phone and had this on the TV. Suddenly I heard that same passion I have for Walt and cliche as it sounds it was like you were talking, no like being reprimanded saying to not quit. The way you spoke about Walt was probably the only thing the could penetrate the mood I've been in since the bad news. & I've never heard anyone else say the say things I'd say and with the same passion. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏

We were lucky enough to ride in the cab of the monorail once years ago. My son was like 5yrs old or so…he’s 20 now. Fairly sure it was at DisneyLand, but whichever park, it was SO cool. Of course my then husband was the one totally geeking out lol

I've only been to WDW once, and that was in 1980. The monorail was my favorite part of the visit.

Hi Justin, back in 1994 my husband and I were on our honeymoon and we were staying at The Contemporary Resort, my husband asked a cast member and let us ride in the front cab of 🚝 to the park and was given pilot license sticker. A once in a lifetime experience. I just wish I had a photo of it.

they really should reopen the nose. it's a nifty experience, sitting up there, talking to the operator, watching what they do, and how it works. we got to go up there at least a couple of times, every trip. i liked the ride into epcot the best. the views around future world/world showcase, at low speed, were really cool. it was one of the experiences that made wdw really special.

Walked to that exact same spot to go to Poly to have dumplings. They were amazing. 😊

Even before 2009, it was quite rare to ride in the rear cab. I think I took guests back there - with special permission - two or three times, and saw it happen fewer than five. But having guests in the front cab was awesome.

As a kid, i would require a front cabin attempt. We werent always able to ride it but the attempt was required 😂

Disney monorail is: System length 14.7 miles long. The lagoon and exterior loops are about 3 miles each with the EPCOT loop being around 7.5 miles.

I was a rail driver. One of the first trained in the EPCOT bean. The MK loops were much more fun to drive

Yes, someone did a cost analysis on KZfaq, of building a new Monorail line to Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios and found it to be something like 100 to 500 million. Thus the bus transportation. I often wonder if a new line would have been cost effective instead of the Skyliner. Yes, the Monorail is a childhood memory and is awesome. It looks crowded! I wonder, I wonder alot, lol, during the weekday, in the daytime, don't children go to school anymore? LOL Keep up the good work Justin. Love your interview vlogs also.

I love the monorail

We always loved to be in the front of the monorail with the driver. We did this at least 1 trip from 1995 to 2008. It was so much fun! Miss being able to do it. If you google Polynesian to EPCOT, it says 4 miles. Contemporary to EPCOT says 4.9 miles. Should be close to one of these.

This was a great vlog. If you didn't find out the EPCOT track is a little over 2 miles because all together all 3 monorail tracks is 6.5 miles long.

Justin!!! You're not supposed to give away the secret of the resort monorail! Us locals have to keep that under wraps, so the tourists don't flood to it at park close and we can escape😂

Try the one in Seattle! One of the remaining attractions from the 1962 Worlds Fair, but it’s still quite a lot of fun and actually a useful way of getting around part of Downtown Seattle

My family was lucky enough that we used to always get asked if we wanted to ride in the front! So I was able to be in there a lot & it’s an amazing experience!

I once got to ride the monorail in the cab with my brother and sister in law in 2008, and my niece and nephew got monorail pilots licenses. I could kick myself that I didn't get one.

We got our pilots licence back in 1996 on our honeymoon. So sad that people can't ride in the front anymore but I understand why.

The accident he's referring to happened while a monorail was being removed from the track as the traffic was slowing. EPCOT trains must swap to the Magic Kingdom track in order to get back to the round house. Safety requirements said the trains needed to get approval before a train is allowed to reverse, since the train pilot cannot see behind them. One night, approval was given for the train to reverse onto the Magic Kingdom track without visually confirming the track was clear. A monorail train was rammed at speed, killing the pilot. Disney World now requires all reversing trains to have an approved person monitor when trains need to reverse.

Reason why the monorail was not expanded is because the cost would be more than $100 million per mile.

They have a lot more equipment up front in the nose now than before. I see why you cant ride now. I got to ride up there many times in the past.

I'm the crazy guy who plans a disney world day to specifically use the monorail (like hopping from MK to EPCOT)

Disney World isa prime example of why Monorails are not the future. On paper, it looks like Monorails would be cheaper and more efficient to operate, but it turns out the cost to main the track far exceeds what they save. It would be nice if Disney would go back to the good old days when they actually did research at the park. They really should look into alternate, cheaper alternatives for monorail track construction.

Once loved Disney until they embraced wokeness,sorry don’t support that,not what Walt had in mind when he created the parks
