For many years, they would not play it. They thought it was amateurish and sounded like something recorded in a garage by the neighborhood kids. Then, the public made it very clear that this was one of the most iconic recordings to come out of the British Invasion. It is a classic.

Amateurish? Musicians are the worst judges of their own material.

I am SO SAD to learn of the death of DENNY LAINE on Tuesday morning, 12/5/23. 😔💔💙 THE MOODY BLUES have by far been my #1 FAVE BAND for 67 years, from 1966 to 2023! I always associate GO NOW with beloved DENNY LAINE!!!

The song fits these guys so good. Denny Laine and his crystal-clear voice along with the remaining band members lending their voices for background vocals. What a dynamic group they were during the 60s. Why Denny Laine didn't continue to be a lead vocalist is an unanswered question till this day. 👍❤

One of my all time favourites, from a long long time ago now. I was 13 in 1964 when it came out - good grief! Denny Laine - great voice, great talent. He did a brilliant performance of this on the Wings Over America tour, with Macca and Linda on backing vocals.

My earliest musical recollection Go Now, The Moody Blues. I was only 6 years old at the time. I will always associate this tune with taking one our pet budgie's to a vet in Canning Town. Sadly, he did not come home with us. I still recall feeling very sad about it. just like the song.

Ahh, now this is their original lineup. Ray Thomas, Mike Pinder, Denny Laine, Graeme Edge, and Clint Warwick. I love when Justin joins from '66 onwards but you have to admit Denny Laines voice and the combination of the original 5 artist's are just spectacular. This was one of the only popular songs and the one that originally kicked off their career containing the original 5 members. And to think they still tour today with Graeme Edge still a member after all these years! Now that's love and dedication to your art!

On this day in 1965 {Feb. 17th} the Moody Blues performed "Go Now!" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!' Three days later on Feb. 20th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #10 and spent 14 weeks on the Top 100 And on January 28th, 1965 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on the U. K. Singles chart The song was originally recorded a year earlier in 1964 by American soul singer Bessie Banks, it was composed by her husband, Larry Banks RIP Jimmy O'Neil {1940-2013, Shindig's host}

And the engineer ran the recording into the red - distorting the opening vocal, catapaulting the record into everyone's ear and launching a '60s game of (literally) 'new sounds' that would hallmark a slew of the biggest hits on both sides of the Atlantic for years to follow.
