🔼 50% off Color Finale 2 Pro, free LUTs, and more!
A Final Cut Pro color grading tutorial to hopefully relax you, and get you in the mood to sit back and do some 'cinematic' grading within Final Cut. This is a poor man's version of 'color grade and chill' (the series by James Matthews) but in Final Cut Pro. It's a relaxed, step by step follow through of color grading some footage in the software until we have a look we're happy with. This may not be for everyone, but I know it may help some who want to learn color grading in Final Cut Pro. Even if it only helps a few of you, that's all that matters. Cheers ✌🏼

I tried to be as concise and accurate as I could while talking and color grading at the same time, but I did slip up a few times. My bad peeps! Hopefully the process and useful information can help you to understand color grading in Final Cut Pro a little bit easier. Let me know if this is something you enjoyed watching 😊 As always, I appreciate your support on the channel! ▫ EDIT: Here is Episode 2 for those interested! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qZtmqsSbusXNdas.html

Hey Dylan, great work as always. Coming from a Photoshop background, the part I missed was how you isolated each of the effects to various parts of the video without a mask (the tree). When I use multiple color wheels it seems to affect everything. Suggestions?

Hey! Thanks so much. So I think what you're looking for are the HSL curves. That will allow you to change the saturation, brightness, or hue of any color you choose. You wouldn't use the color wheels for what you're saying. I hope I understood your question.

@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Luca! Hmmm a constant Autumn look...well it wouldn't be a complimentary color scheme. It'd probably be an analogous one, with red, orange, and yellow. So if you're at a park, perhaps adjusting the leaves to be more yellow if possible, adding warmth to the overall grade, and tweaking other colors to fit that color scheme.

Nice Fatih! Good luck 👊 hmm well it's going to be tough, but it's doable. The best tip I have for you is to use the comparison viewer to take a try and tweak your shot till it matches up with you a73 footage. Ah damn, I was actually going to do that, but I forgot. I'll put the link to the raw file when I get the chance. And I didn't use that method because I've found it just takes a little longer and I wanted the adjustment to affect my midtones as a whole. Maybe in the next one I'll use that technique. So question… would I add a Phantom LUT after a Technical LUT or in place of a Technical LUT? Thanks for the content, loving your stuff!
@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson 2 жыл бұрын
Yo Andrew! You’d add a Phantom LUT in place of a technical LUT. Phantom LUTs, like the LOG versions of my LUTs, convert to Rec 709 automatically. Now, you may need to tweak your exposure before you add the LUT so that LUT fits better. Generally, you’d want your shot to sit pretty center on the Luma waveform before adding the LUT. If you try and change the exposure after applying the light, it’s not going to work the same.
@andrewscot5204
@andrewscot5204 2 жыл бұрын
@@dylanjohndickerson ok great. So I’ve been putting the LUT in the right place but I’ll fix exposure first this next edit. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to explain, keep the great content coming! Btw, I’ve had Cinema Grade for a couple years and it’s been good in many areas but I’ve been thinking about picking up Color Finale 2 (especially after watching your last post about it). I’m also impressed with your tutorials on the FCP native tools. So I’m torn… lol. Do I hone my skills on FCP tools or take the leap into CF2? 🤷‍♂️

@@dylanjohndickerson hehe OK I am waiting for that n one question why slog is better then cine tone brother
@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson 3 жыл бұрын
@@rajeshrai5518 both definitely have different uses. S-Cinetone is clutch if color grading isn't really that necessary for your video or you don't really have time to grade. It has a natural look that looks great straight out of camera and usually requires little to no tweaking. S-Log is beneficial if you want to color grade and get the most out of your footage as possible. Like I talked about in the video, shooting in LOG allows you to capture the most dynamic range possible out of your camera's sensor. It will allow you to better capture bright highlights and dark shadows in one image. The downside is it requires you to spend time grading it (although you could just slap a LUT on there). So S-Log...more time grading.....but best possible image and more control of grade in post S-Cinetone....less time grading.....but not as much dynamic range in your shot.

Hello! quick question, Is there any range of how much saturation is good or how much is over. Also how 10bit vs 12bit has any saturation advantages. Thanks
@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson Жыл бұрын
Hey! Have you watched my tutorial on scopes? That goes over how you can tell is you've added too much saturation. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g91_eLuSptnTdIk.html As far as saturation advantages with 10bit vs 12 bit, I don't believe so. At least not a noticeable advantage. That's just going to affect how much color you have to work with in your shot. You shouldn't really be cranking your saturation up too much either.

Hey Kasi! You should be able to get it on the Canon website depending on what C-Log profile you're shooting in. But does the Canon 80D even have a LOG Profile? If not, then no need for a technical LUT. That's solely to convert LOG footage to the Rec 709 color space that we edit footage in. Let me know if I answered your question.
