This is a good morning exercise that can help us to accumulate the energy that will enable us to become more conscious for the rest of the day.
Mr. Gurdjieff said that conscious breathing and absorbing the higher active elements in the air - when done properly - can be the equivalent of a month's inner work.
Most of this is derived from "Preparation 6" by George Gurdjieff's student George Adie. Some of it comes from "Gurdjieff's Early Talks 1914-1931 (Exercise 1939 on page 413). And some from the transcripts of Mr. Gurdjieff's Paris/Wartime Meetings (the uncensored version of "Meeting Twenty-Nine, Thursday, 3 August 1944 on "The Collected State").

Sitting is a very important part of work on self. Mindless thoughts often plague me when attempting to complete my morning sitting. Allan's guided meditation videos are a true Godsend. Anyone on the path owes it to their being to make full use of Allan's generosity. Thank you Allan.😇❤

This morning, I turned off the sound and just read the instructions, pausing them with the space bar when I needed to so I could feel I really did each thing before moving on to the next.

I'm not sure why I do this, but I do and my body awareness is improving. Very peaceful.

The beginning of this is an exercise to show us that we cannot move our attention down our arm from the right shoulder to the right elbow. The right shoulder is connected by attention to one location in us. The right elbow is connected to another. They do not connect internally in the same way as the body appears outwardly connected. They are discreet locations. This is an exercise Gurdjieff gave to the perceptive pupil to begin to show this.

Anatomically, the elbow, or Olecranon is an outgrowth of bone of the Ulna. Upon it are tuberosities and liagments that fit it on the humerus. The humerus is directly connected to the scapula, which bone mass is situated on the back. If we are only going by the bones, a shoulder in general is misleading. What makes the shoulder, in the minds of everyday people, are the muscles that are positioned over the bones to create a bulky connected mass. The joint connection of humerus to scapula, and the out growth of the acromion that grows out of the spine of the scapula, which the clavical touches. The life in the muscles connects all these things, the long part of the tricep, which has its connecting points in both scapula and the thick tendon which connects the triceps to the elbow and it extends the lower arm at the elbow. of course the attention can be moved from shoulder to elbow, there are direct connections of the muscles. Deeper into the bone, it is different.

@@CirrowProductions there is some variation, but a book was recently released by Joseph Azize called "Gurdjieff Mysticism, Contemplation, & Exercises", in it he writes about the "Morning Preparation" that he was given by his teacher Mr. and Mrs. Adie, who were direct students of Mr. Gurdjieff. He gives the full exercise that were preserved. One highlighted similarity was the affirmation of digesting a quality of food from the air, which is specific.

@@ras9272 .. Joseph Azize is a credible student of Gurdjieff. In fact he’s one of the most qualified to teach both Gurdjieff philosophy & exercises.

Instead of the affirmation of ‘myself, humanity and the earth herself’, one that I use is ‘myself, my neighbour and my Lord God’.

Reflect on the Octave of Food, the Octave of Air and the Octave of Impressions. Notice how they form a unit and are intimately connected. Food creates the physical body. Mr. Gurdjieff said that we should not get identified with the physical body (Kathryn Hulme "Conversations with Gurdjieff") because it really belongs to the Earth. Air is connected to emotions and Essence. Mr. Gurdjieff also said we should not get identified with Essence because it is not our Essence but human Essence (ibid). Think of a drop of water temporarily removed from a glass of water to which it will return. Then there is the Octave of Impressions which leads to the "Real I" or the real self. That which is truly ours. Octave of Food - physical body: Earth Octave of Air - emotional body-Essence: Humanity Octave on Impressions - intellectual body: our Self In reverse: for myself, for humanity and for the Earth Herself.

I have a more or less basic sense of what is meant by "identification", but understand that my comprehension is very limited. Could someone please comment on this?

Identification is maybe the feeling yiu are that. For example i say sonething about your daughter that you dont like you are affected because you cant stand you are identified it shouts you on our EGO because you thought that you are the best parent to your daughter
