We're into day 4 of my most epic mission to date and having almost escaped the damp twangy clutches of Kielder forest, I now had the opportunity to deliver myself 12 miles from the coast in one fell swoop. 21 miles of more rugged mountains and forests would be a huge physical endeavor in it's own right, but it also happened to be bookmarked by a private and very active hunting estate, and a gigantic military firing range apparently littered with unexploded shells. Illegal? not technically. But not without risks. Do not attempt to try this yourselves...
Some speech might be difficult to hear - use good speakers/headphones if possible and use the man made subtitles

I am seriously wondering why the UK has these forests of fallen overgrown trees everywhere? Is this just centuries of poor forest management or what? How did all the trees fall so tangled? Without natural forest fires to clean that up it's just a pile of rotting wood. What terrible land management. All those sections of tangled fallen trees is unbelievable to see. Those sections are all that's left of the forests. That's the absolute worst looking forest I've ever seen or heard of. Totally ruined and uncared for. Trees stacked 20ft high and just left there. I've honestly never seen anything so pathetic as those little patches of woods. The UK and it's people are great, so I don't know what's going on with that. I don't even know how the trees could get in such a bad condition, what the hell happened to them?

The adjacent Cheviot Dry Range which uses dummy munitions is considered a PAA (Public Access Area) accessible by the public in all places at all times, the CAA however is restricted to waymarked paths, permissive paths, and publicly accessible roads (Deer Road) which traverse the area or any area marked with Access signage, regardless of whether the red flags are up or not. Traversing off the waymarked and permissive paths through Otterburns live range and moorland does require a permit issued by the Range Liaison Office via the Range Coordinator, this is common for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers in the area, even then they do ask visitors to stick to the permissive paths given the moorland of the live range CAA is absolutely littered with UXO (unexploded ordinance) and submunitions.

Living besides Salisbury Plain training area it's worth mentioning those firing schedules are hopeless and next to worthless and it's accepted that the only way to know for sure there is no live firing is to make sure there's no red flags. But having seen you've survived then this information is worthless to you but maybe it would be worth pointing this out before someone gets killed imitating your exploits, I love the content though keep up the good work and welcome to fatherhood x

If it's an actually active training ground, they'll clean up after themselves because they too don't want to die from unexploded ordnance. It's much worse if it's an abondoned one, possibly from a different state and army to the current one. There's a forest in eastern Germany that's on fire almost every year which then can't be extinguished properly because nothing but the main paths has been cleared from UXO. The fires occasionally trigger some as well.
