To be honest, I didn't mind the slidewhistling. I do however mind the other issues you explained: Spongebob and Patrick being annoying sh-theads, the townsfolk being heartless f--ks, and the ending being unnecessary. However, I wouldn't say this episode is boring; there were some interesting stuff. But yeah, this episode is annoying.

If the episode played less often, it wouldn't be nearly as bad. Idk how the network is now. But the fact that this episode played WAY TOO MUCH in my region and time that I watched Nick around 2008-2015 made the irritation this episode brings thousand times worse for me Thanks for covering it!

Typical SpongeBob does it and it’s very funny but if Squidward does it and it’s the worst thing in existence. A part of it feels reused from Squidville, though that might only be because of how the parallels in the interactions with the Reef Blowers and slide whistles

I honestly have to be on your side for this episode of spongebob squarepants. I feel like spongebob and patrick would never understand squidward wanted to be alone and the ending was terrible since squidward did as usual get punished or injured, since anyone was so happy with him dying while spongebob and patrick is so sad that he was dead, since when do they ever care about him or his feelings although it's way too far to cheer someone dying!

When it came to this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick have a major slide whistle problem. Imagine if after annoying Squidward they went on to annoy everyone in Bikini Bottom and the citizens wanted to teach them a lesson by forming an angry mob on SpongeBob and Patrick.

I honestly kinda like this episode, Squidward isn't really tortured in this episode. In fact, once he tries the slide whistle he understands why Spongebob and Patrick do it. The ending is a little bad for me, since Squidward doesn't need to get injured at the end, sure he brought it on himself but this is when he's having fun.

a thing i've heard mentioned by a lot of people critiquing new spongebob is that they seem to be perpetually recycling episode concepts. and i'm surprised you didn't mention that this episode is just a carbon copy of the crane game episode, which itself was way too reminiscent of the reef blower episode where squidward goes to live in squiddy acres or whatever that neighborhood was lol

I mean, in general, I like slide whistles. Call me immature or annoying or whatever, I just have soft spot for unique sounding novelty noisemaker type stuff. Not a justification for this episode, just my opinion on the instrument(?) itself.

Being serious, I actually really like the episode. Why do you people care if Squidward gets hurt? You never cared in pre-movie when he didn’t really deserve the torment. I don’t give a shit about it as long as it’s funny and has good writing. Besides, the Bikini Bottomites don’t like him because he’s a jerk, so their actions in the episode are justified.

I feel like in pre-movie episodes, Squidward usually had some kind of attitude problem within the episode prior to getting hurt/tormented, whereas post-movie mostly had him seemingly just minding his own business/trying to relax. I think it’s more about execution/frequency.

You got it backwards dude. Pre-movie Squidward is a jerk and he is usually the one who deserves all the karma he gets. Post movie Squidward is still grumpy, but rightfully so because SpongeBob and Patrick never leaves him alone...

@@Key-Knight87 Yeah, Squidward was and still is a terrible jerk. Though, tell me, what exactly did he do in “Jellyfishing” to deserve the crap that was thrown at him? IIRC, all he did was make sarcastic remarks to Sponge and Pat and hit a jellyfish that flew into his mouth while he was laughing. There are so many other examples in pre-movie, too. Does acting arrogant deny him the right to eat? To me, it doesn’t. Sure, there are differences, but at the end of the day, it shouldn’t matter whether a cartoon character’s agony is deserved, as long as it’s either funny or well written, I don’t care. Also, I find Boating Buddies hilarious and no SpongeBoomer or Mr. Enter fanboy is gonna tell me otherwise. I’ve seen every single season of the show, so I know what I’m talking about.

I would rather watch "Slide Whistle Stooges" than "Squeaky Boots". Even though they're both annoying, the former is slightly less annoying than the latter. "Squeaky Boots" is the bane of my existence; I think it proves that seasons 1-3 weren't as perfect as everyone thinks they are.
