【Namari Onsen Fujisan Ryokan】
Namari Onsen springs along a mountain stream in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, and is said to have been opened more than 600 years ago. Located halfway up the Ou Mountains, it is surrounded by rich nature.
The water is clear, colorless, tasteless, odorless, and refreshing.
The Fujisan Ryokan is a single-story inn built in Namari Onsen, with a history of more than 230 years since its establishment in 1786.
Fujisan Ryokan is divided into a "Ryokan section" and a "Toji section," allowing guests to enjoy self-catering hot-spring cures, a practice that has become rare in modern times, when lifestyles have changed.
There are four bathhouses: "Shirasaru-no-yu," "Katsura-no-yu," "Shiraito-no-yu," and "Gin-no-yu," all with free-flowing hot-spring water.
Shirozaru-no-yu is the centerpiece of Fujisan Ryokan. Hot water gushes out from a bedrock in the center of the property, and a bathtub was hollowed out of the bedrock, with the bathhouse built directly above it and the ryokan standing around it. The bathtub is 1.25 meters deep, and visitors bathe standing up.
I personally feel that "Shirosaru no Yu" is the most beautiful bathhouse in Japan. When you open the door of the bathhouse, you will see the powerful rock formations below, the deep green clear water, the descending staircase leading to the rock bath, and the three-story open atrium, which gives the bathroom a sense of divinity.
The other bathhouses are also wonderfully pleasant baths along the mountain stream.
