This is pretty close to the chord progression heard in Boz Scagg's 'We're All Alone' way back in 1976. Rita Coolidge had a hit with it a few years later in '77 or '78.

Now that you know it, pay attention when you learn pieces. Suddenly you will spot them. Mostly first part or second part separately, but I've seen the whole thing in Gospel and some "modern" Pop, Whitney Houston 90s style.

That’s great advice thank you. Since I started following your channel I try to get in the habit of paying attention to the progression which really helps me land in the right place and make “acceptable errors”. But sometimes if it isn’t a 251 or 145 or 1625 with minimal substitutions I can get a little lost. So this unlocks another beautiful secret.

Finally finished this one and I think something clicked for me in the second half. Are all those chromatic downward movements to the next chords “secondary dominants using tritone substitutions”? Because it suddenly clicked that going from the B to A via the Bb used the same notes as using the E to get to A, and Bb is a tritone away from E. Which means doing those on the fly is suddenly way easier for me to grasp since i do the same right hand notes and just change the root

The major scale chord system is only one system to describe how chords work together. In most pieces there are several aspects at work how progressions sound good. Don't look to much at theory. In music goes: If it sounds good, it's right.

Great sequence. So many possibilities. One thing about the #11, I look to see if there's a perfect 5th as well. If not, then I have a name I've given this chord - I call it a _demented_ chord. Why? Well, because I think it's an important enough sound to merit it's own name. I mean, it's rare but you sometimes encounter it. So if you play a major triad and raise the 5th by a 1/2 step, that's an aug-mented chord. So, I figure, if you lower it by 1/2 a step, wouldn't that make it de-mented?

I’m a huge fan of this page and do almost every lesson. I’ve played on and off for about 40 years and played this video at 0.5 speed and constantly paused. Took me a week to sort of internalize it. So don’t feel bad you can’t follow along at full speed. There are some tricky chords in this one that i’m only familiar with because i constantly drill rootless voicings.
