Richard McVeigh | BEAUTY IN SOUND

Күн бұрын

A number of months ago I played Maurice Duruflé's 'Chant Donné' during a Virtual Church and it received an amazing response - lots of people had never heard it before! This is the performance given during Virtual Church.
This is an arrangement I did from a 2-stave score back in 2007 (during my days as Organ Scholar at York Minster!), and this is the version I present to you today.
If you'd like a score, please let me know in the comments and I'll try to find it buried somewhere deep within my computer.
In the original score there are no registration markings, so all the colours you hear in this rendition are my own. There is also no repeat mark at the end so this is a McVeighism, as is the Tierce de Picardie.
This glorious organ is that of Nancy Cathedral, recorded and sampled for Hauptwerk by Piotr Grabowski.
I really hope you enjoy 'Chant donné - En hommage à Jean Gallon' by Duruflé.

Thank you all for your requests for the score - wow! An overwhelming response in total!! I'll have to find it (it's currently hiding from me!), or I might have to typeset it out again ever better than before!! Please keep your requests coming, and I'll try to get back to you soon! Rx

Hello Richard, you are correct: this is the most beautiful organ piece I've never heard before. I would greatly appreciate receiving it and if there is a fee for your new engraved setting - or for going to the effort to find and send it, please tell me the fee for your artistic work. Thank you so much. [Email - dale.rider@aol.com]

I have always loved Durufle; I recall visiting York Minster in the early 80s as his Requiem was being performed, and having to wipe away tears at the beauty both of setting and music. This piece was a revelation, one I shall have to listen to again and again. Thank you for introducing us to this.

Maurice Durufle was very self-critical when it came to his compositions. He even went so far that he is said to have burned a large part of it. The remainder can be considered superior in quality to most contemporary works. His fugue on the chimes of Soissons Cathedral from 1946 is, in my opinion, the most beautiful execution of a Carillion theme for organ.

Absolutely beautiful Richard! And it magnifies so much the organ of the cathedral of Nancy! 😍 I'm not usually a fan of the tierce picarde (very rarely actually 😅), but I admit that (for me) it totally has its place here. It just sounds like there should be a tierce picarde 😄😁 PS: I would absolutely love to have the score 😍😇
