Christmas tree worm rocks are full of aquatic life. This cool piece of rock is home to a lot of colorful Christmas tree worms, hermit crabs and so much more. The rock is located in my 40 gallon fish tank, but in this video we take a closer look in a special aquarium.

Christmas tree worms are fascinating to see, these fish tank inhabitants come in a lot of different colors. Usually they live in a piece of live coral together with hermit crabs and other marine animals. It's an ecosystem, such a beautiful piece of nature!
Information about my own low tech reef tank setups 👇
I own four saltwater aquariums, a 10 gallon nano reef tank, two 20 gallon coral frag tanks and a 40 gallon shallow reef tank. All these fish tanks are set up without any filtration or high-tech aquarium equipment. They require maintenance, including a water change, every few weeks to remain in healthy and happy conditions!

This is incredibly beautiful. I would just cry if I got one, cause it would be like something out of a book. I'm am already fascinated with my first saltwater tank, that I recently set up, I'm obsessively looking at all the creatures I got on the live rock and at my first tiny coral, a gorgeous purple mushroom with green dots. I found some of the tiny starfish, luckily I had seen them in vids before and separated them, but I love them and keep them separately, hope they will make it. I also saw 2 very small and fragile things looking like bristle stats on my rock, the size of a mosquito, but couldn't identify them.

Used yo get these from the Marshall Islands when I was in the hobby They can come in with many destructive beasties. They are definitely the most densely packed you can get. You generally have two options: 1, keep them alone in a tank, or except the damage they will do to your reef.

the hermit crab looks like a Pylojacquesia colemani, though I just discovered they exist. So, I can't give you help on the care. That being said I found out that they inhabit empty Christmas worm holes, and they look like they are filter feeders, from that I suppose that they require a similar care to the Christmas worms? Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, I have never had a reef tank, and especially never had either of those

@@gamenmetkikkerstyle the 1s I had I was pretty certain ate corraline algae. When I would see them I removed them but they never made it to "uh oh we must address this issue asap" status. Not even close. The biggest problem I've had in the reef hobby was finding what ended up being a 2 meter eunicid worm that had burrowed all through a huge piece of LR covered in several colors of zoas. Hated fragging that huge piece but I knew something evil was inside. Never knew it was longer than I am tall tho.

My hammers aren't doing amazing, but most the time they seem pretty happy(I believe the beginner lighting may be a big factor) My zooanthids seem to just die or at least parts of the colony dies/closes up for weeks. Do you have any tips? I've tried the stuff from many other KZfaq and nothing seems to help much if at all. I'm dying to get my zooanthid garden flourishing then start attempting slightly more in depth specimens.
@DannysAquariums
@DannysAquariums Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that! What are your nitrate/phosphate levels? Do you notice anything on/near the Zoanthids when they’re closed?
@rattyratstuff7125
@rattyratstuff7125 Жыл бұрын
@@DannysAquariums they seem to get fairly dirty? Like alge will start growing on them, they close up, then when the snails and other cleanup crew clean them they start to open up partially then just close again. Nitrate isn't as stable as I'd like but that could be because it's a very small reeftank, but I've never had any serious spikes or drops in either that could really screw with them. I'm absolutely stumped. Definitely going to, at minimum, triple the tank size when I do resize to help with stability. Learned after I got a 30g cube that bellow 75g isn't good for a beginner reef tank haha
@DannysAquariums
@DannysAquariums Жыл бұрын
What were the nitrate/phosphate levels when you last tested them? Continuously high or too low will also cause problems. 🙂

Alvast bedankt!
@DannysAquariums
@DannysAquariums Жыл бұрын
De wormen hebben niet echt specifiek veel licht nodig, stroming is wel belangrijk, dit is waarin ze hun eten vangen. Er mag dus best wel wat stroming staan. Wat zijn je waterwaarden?
