Bruh, I used to main T.Hawk in every street fighter he was in, and my cousins and friends HATED me - calling me a cheater and whatnot. I seriously thought he was awful at first just because I didn't know what a "grappler" was when I was a kid, but I was dedicated to learn all his moves cuz he was the only Mexican Street Fighter character at the time. Once I learned all his busted shit, I went ham and essentially got him banned in my own household.

Honda... a good Honda can cover every possible thing you want to do. He has stored oicho throw which will come out faster than yours, and it isn't possible to be within range to throw the Honda without him being able to release a button and throw you. When they asked the best Japanese Hawk players how they dealt with Honda, they said they didn't try to win, they just tried to get an early life lead and run away from him until the time ran down. Shit is like a 9-1 matchup.

I never knew there were two versions of everyone in ST. That's pretty neat.
@max-d8105
@max-d8105 2 жыл бұрын
Yep. The reason they're called "old" versions is because they are based on their appearance in Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers, the predecessor to SSF2 Turbo (this game). That's why they don't have a super meter; original SSF2 doesn't have super moves. A lot of characters in "Super Turbo" got some new moves and reworks to their frame data to help them be more competitive. That's why a lot of the old characters are considered inferior to their "new" counterparts. However there are exceptions like O.Sagat, who was really good in vanilla SSF2 and got nerfed in ST. O.Sagat is considered the strongest legal character in the game (Akuma is not legal) so some tournaments will softban him, meaning he's allowed but discouraged to use.
@megavolt67
@megavolt67 2 жыл бұрын
@@max-d8105 Isn't Claw/Vega the strongest legal character when played at the highest level (i.e. by Japanese players)? I guess they're one and two either way.
@max-d8105
@max-d8105 2 жыл бұрын
@@megavolt67 technically yea since japan softbans O.Sagat. Claw is really strong but he needs that knockdown in order to start the vortex. He's like a better functioning grappler since Gief and Hawk have the same KD game plan but not quite as strong. The difference between Claw and O.Sagat is that Claw has more favorable matchups while O.Sagat has more advantageous ones.

It's a jank side effect of initial release. Prior to Super 2 Zangief had no whiff animation for his command grab so he could pretty much do the same thing with SPD, but Zangief is also super slow with a bad jump so he had to work much harder to get in because he had no moves that helped him approach. It wasn't until Super 2 Turbo that Zangief got the Banishing Flat (AKA, Green Hand,) that he got a move with good forward momentum to help his SPD setups. T.Hawk had all that right out of the box and with much better maneuverability.

I'm glad you mentioned that grabs cannot be jumped out of in your video as opposed to rooflemonger's. Your video covers thawk in ST a lot more in depth than his video. I'm glad you pointed out the differences with o hawk vs n hawk as well. Just a note, Zangief could always negative edge SPD up until Super Street Fighter 2 when Thawk came along. Gief's sako ticks were a lot more deadly in earlier SF2 as he had way more range and also a lot safer tick setups. And one final note, yes o hawk is infinitely better than n hawk, HOWEVER, I would argue any true hawk player plays n hawk because of 1 factor, the 720. There's no reason to play hawk unless it's to land that 720. That is pretty much the ONLY reason why someone would want to play thawk. It's not about the damage. It's about style. Nothing more satisfying that doing a walk up 720 with Thawk. Keep churning that butter my friends!

@jmcrofts, how do you keep such a fun, carefree attitude when playing? Do you have a video on beating the salt or tips about one's attitude? Regardless, good stuff cannot wait to see what all comes out this year!
@davidnichol4735
@davidnichol4735 2 жыл бұрын
No need for a whole video. You just have to realize you won't win tilted, so you suck it up and focus. If you can practice combos and footsies, you can practice remaining calm. Getting angry is the same as giving up. If you really believe you can win, there's nothing to be upset about. Now, getting salty after the set is over... That's another story.

T Hawk’s super in ST gets ludicrous range. MUCH farther then his regular Typhon. And since you can’t miss with it, you can just spam it constantly until they happen to be in range.

Heh... I was getting a lot of deja vu getting this video recommended to me lately. "Wait, didn't I already see something like this...?" And it was, indeed, the esteemed Rooflemonger one. I'll gladly vouch for ya given the chance, but it can't hurt to have more than one video covering the intricacies of a character. More notes and video samples to keep in mind, surely.

Learning from your videos is like realizing there's a doctorate degree on fighting games. My only question is: if T-Hawk creates such inescapable situations, why he's nearly never seen in championships?
@naejimba
@naejimba 6 ай бұрын
Great question and I'm surprised no one has answered. Because it is incredibly difficult to execute consistently (and you might only get ONE opportunity in a round), and very difficult to put the enemy in that situation where they are in the corner (the only time you can do throw loops). You have to take a lot of risks and most of his tools are not safe on block for most of the cast (like his dive which most things beat outright). Jump in LP is predictable (and easily countered with DPs, flash kick, etc.), and your other option is a sweep to get a knockdown. Certain matchups like Claw and Boxer you either get a knockdown and then execute perfectly or you die against a really good player. It's usually all or nothing with him, and in tournaments consistency is highly valued.

reasons like this is why special moves do not need to be 1 button. The more damaging and effective the special move, the more complex it should be. The reward is a lot of damage for dedication.

Kof community don't count those moves as throws because they can be dodged (A+B). They call them proximity unblockable.

Japanese players can do some crazy stuff with him. He can also kind of almost deal with Claw's shenanigans which is a big deal in the meta. I think Super Turbo Saturdays had a video on Fei Long and you can also look up JigglyNorris who is a player who uses Fei. He takes a lot of skill and you have to take risks to get in but is very satisfying.
