Back in 2007, when I got my Keurig B60 Special Edition (which I still use every day to this day), I started the very first Yahoo User Group for exchanging unwanted flavors of K-Cups. I called the club The K-Cup Exchange. There were thousands of members exchanging k-cups and lots of brewing tips and tons of coffee talk. Every time Green Mountain would release a new flavor, they'd send me boxes to give away. And many online k-cup retailers would send machines and countless boxes of k-cups to have contests with. This worked out for sellers and members alike, but it began to be a ton of work for me with my day job and all. Alas, I gave ownership of the group to a few of the earliest members and it soon fell apart. Oh well, it was a great ride for many. My B60se is a reminder to me of that great group every time I brew a cuppa joe.

I was a Finance Controller at the factory in Ohio that developed the K-cup along with Keurig. When the patent expired in 2013, the company I worked for lost the Keurig business; however, quickly picked up on other brand K-Cups. There was only one machine left producing the plastic cups when I left the company. That machine put out around 200,000 cups per hour.

Thank you so much for this video!!! Really appreciate it. I had a Verismo Machine from Starbucks, over two year but I got hit with the news that they discontinued their pods. So I bought myself a Keurig Mini but when I started making my cup of coffee it wasn’t the same quality at all. With your video I realized I was pouring too much water and that I also needed to do an extra cycle after every cup to maintain it clean. Thanks so much. My coffee tastes much better now.

After 12+ years of roasting coffee, trying to find an effective and profitable way to put our coffee into pods, found a method in Nov 2021, I cannot reveal all the steps we do, it took a LOT of science to figure it out. It also takes a LOT of time and money to produce top-quality coffee pods. Not only because we use the finest, freshly roasted beans, but, all the other things you mentioned, the high quality plastic pods (which are 100% recyclable), the lids, and our exclusive method of sanitizing and sealing the cups so the coffee stays fresh, and, we ship direct to consumers, be it at home, office, you name it. I really appreciate this video. Since we introduced our coffee in pods, we have had a number of people contact us who have problems, 9.999 times out of 10, it ends up being due to the errors and issues you have just mentioned in this video, so, thank you so much for taking the time to making this video! We were going to do our own video, which we probably one day will do, but, you saved us a lot of time with exactly the info people need who are wanting the best from the K-cup makers. And, even though you mention other coffees here, and talk specifically about pricing, what to expect to spend, I now direct my customers who have issues to this video in particular! I agree, don't use the cheap pods...the coffee inside is terrible, and you can definitely taste the plastic residue after brewing. It is a horrible after-taste and probably not a healthy thing to drink! My only issue is, I disagree with your price point statements, you've likely not tried our coffee, so, I get where you are coming from, but, our customers think ours is the best they have ever had, and, we are north of $1 per pod. We have to be. We just wouldn't make enough profit otherwise, which is why we are in business. Granted, your video was shot in 2020, green bean prices were much lower then. In today's market, people should expect to spend north of $1 per pod for high-quality stuff. Today, Mar 2022, prices on everything are way up. It would be great if you could add to the end of this video an update and state more current pricing. BTW - Our pods are 100% recyclable (the plastic and lid) and compostable (the grounds and internal filter). We chose to use the recyclable plastic versus the one you showed that is just open at the bottom due to the fact that there is no real good way to keep those pods fresh once the bag is open, and the fact is, even though those claim to be compostable, they either need to be sent to a special place that will do that or, it is a lot of messy and inconvenient work to do yourself. Please let me know if we can put a link here to our website for those who wish to find us. Look forward to viewing more videos from you! Mike

So I found this video in 2021 and went on to view the one on how to clean a Keurig. I use it because it was a gift even though I don't enjoy the coffee as much as brewing my own, but I have become addicted to the convenience even though those little cups are expensive. Anyway, my unit was starting to sound like an ole man gasping for breath. So glad I found you because I am amazed how much better it is brewing (and sounding) after a good thorough clean. Thanks Keurig Man. Hope you're still viewing comments.

I enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing. This may have already been mentioned in the comments but I thought I would share this additional suggestion anyway. It's not going to improve the coffee taste but it will make cleanup a bit easier. I found a disc-shaped object a little over an inch tall to lift the cup much closer to the nozzle when brewing. This has greatly reduce the amount of splash during the brewing cycle.

I'm a "HARDCORE" coffee drinker and owned a Keurig the moment it came out. Last week for my bday I got the NEW K-Supreme Plus which can do 4,6,8,10,and 12oz coffee with strength and temp options. I use the 10oz and 12oz BUT the key is DARK ROAST and the strength is strong and temp highest and the coffee is perfect everytime and at any size but I do 10 to 12oz nothing less. Thanks for sharing 😊

The only problem I have come across with the K-Supreme Plus is, if you accidentally run it dry, the thermostat locks up and you have to take the machine apart to fix it. I am 72 yrs old and was able to do it. But will avoid it in the future. Love the machine.

This is exactly how I brew my coffee as well. Intense flavour and the hottest setting on the 12 oz size setting using fresh very fine ground beans. Our Supreme Plus machine was a very recent purchase from Costco Canada after owning one of the earlier version of Keurigs for years. It came with the refillable ground coffee holder as well as 3 water filters. It’s an awesome machine. So many settings!

Grant it, none of the cups I get are “cheap” but I have plastic cup variety in my cabinet along with the k cups without the plastic. No wonder why the coffee tastes better without the plastic cup! Rather than use any pods I buy whole bean coffee, grind it myself, then fill a reusable pod. My Keurig came with a caraffe so I use an appropriate larger pod which gives me a full three mugs of coffee every morning. If I do want a single mug later in the day I also have a couple of regular size refillable pods I can use. And note, the only trash I create with this method is the used coffee grounds which I save and fork into my potting soil for my herb and vegetable garden.

I'm encouraged to find that I practice most of these tips already. The pre-puncture of the cup and white vinegar tips were new for me, the rest are things I already do. I use the cleaning products that Keurig sells - the de-scaling treatment and the rinse pods (use 1 of those per week), but I might give the vinegar a try. Like some others, I'm willing to use store-brand if necessary. I prefer Green Mountain.

I have to admit, I have been lax on cleaning our Keurig. I noticed that it really slows down after my grandson uses a hot cocoa pod. I've used the Keurig descaling kits a few times and this video has also helped me learn a few things, especially about pushing down on the pod before closing the lid and rinsing after every cup. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
@deedalee
@deedalee Жыл бұрын
A bit of unsolicited advice, but the Keurig hot cocoa pods are basically just super concentrated versions of the instant powder. I buy the swiss miss packets, put them directly in the mug, and then just run the Keurig to make hot water. It comes out slightly pressurized so it helps to dissolve and stir the cocoa, but you definitely still need to stir it well. It will save you a bunch of $$ if you use the pods for your grandson often. ☺️

You need to run a cup of just plain hot water without the pod, to clean out the chocolate out of the brewer. I remember reading that in the instuctions in the first Keurig I got, many years ago.

Great video. I always use the strong button and after switching to the bottled water, I definitely noticed a difference in my coffee. I do think most people's machines don't last long because they don't do proper routine maintenance. I had my first machine for about 5 years and only upgraded because I was gifted a new machine. My current machine is still going strong and I've had it for just shy of 4 years. We use it 2-3 times a day.
@WrestlingErnestHemingway
@WrestlingErnestHemingway Жыл бұрын
The main reason their machines doesn't last long because they get in the bad habit of turning the power on & off burning out the heater function & switch. They turn it off at night or on & off after every use. It ruins the machine doing that. The solution is to keep the Keurig machine's power on 24-7 with a full tank of water. And only turn it off (and empty the water tank) when going away on vacation. And of course de-scale & clean it twice a year. It doesn't use up any more power leaving the machine on 24-7 than any old standard coffee maker did with a clock or timer on it.

Man, I love your videos! Brazilians are, in general, coffee lovers! So am I! Brewing a cup of coffee is not a simple thing, it's all about the experience, the quality of the coffee, the strength, the flavor... you totally understand that. I just returned a Keurig machine to Walmart. It was a Keurig K-Slim. I have a K-Classic at my workplace and the lowest cup is the right for me. Unfortunately, the sizes available on K-Slim are 8, 10, and 12oz. 8oz for me is not as strong as I like it. Nice channel!

I actually bought the K-Slim to compare it to my K-Mini Plus that I've been using for the past year and I was so underwhelmed. I made a video on it and will probably use it a few more time for the channel and for articles that I post on my website but that's probably it, IMO it's a dud of a machine. BTW, thanks for all your comments, I'm seriously glad to help out and yes, I do love my coffee and as much as I know about it I just don't care for the snobbery that can exist in coffee circles.

I get the store brand k cups that are 100% biodegradable pods. It has no plastic but the individual wrapping. I like that it doesn't have the plastic cup to toss as well as a wrapper. Nice work. You have a good sense of engineering, I see. That helps when you are trying to trouble-shoot a coffee maker. As always, coffee drinkers have very different ideas when it comes to the relative "strength" of a cup of coffee. Also, I just bought my first Keurig two months ago. The company keeps refining the design, so therefore I can easily see why the need for more and more "how to" Keurig videos. My brewer seems to be a lot simpler with less room for error or clogging. I have no doubt a French press or drip pour-over would make a better cup of coffee, for the true java aficionado. I believe that method is for people who go through fresh coffee beans like crazy because they really enjoy drinking several cups a day. I notice with even some of the nicest ground coffees available, they tell you to go through the bag within 2 or 3 weeks. If you aren't able to do that, the taste of the coffee is so degraded! Therefore I will take the Keurig because I can only drink one cup of coffee per day.

Great video. I was lucky enough to have a good friend send a first generation Keurig coffee maker to me in Canada. Green mountain was the only coffee affiliated with Keurig at that time. She also included two re-usable capsules to enable using any coffee brand you wanted to. That machine is still in use. Here's what I did. Once every three months, add vinegar to the reservoir and run it through with a full reservoir of fresh water for a good rinse. Clean the head often, no longer then two weeks. Learn what coffee suits your taste and stick with it. I have always used water from a Brita pitcher kept in the fridge. I learned the puncturing the pod first a year ago after getting grounds in my cup, I thought it was a faulty pod branding issue. I was wrong but figured it out. I liked it for the ease of use. I have used presses, I have a Nespresso machine by Breville that I love, as much as I like some of Nespresso's brand coffees, I am a die hard Lavazza fan and their pods go on sale fairly regularly. I work in an Italian based community so the stove top Bialetti is a staple and it's always Crema e Gusto from Lavazza. Thanks for the video :)

I have and use both a Professional Bunn VPR machine and a Stovetop traditional Percolator as my main home Coffee station. I invested in these because I love REALLY GREAT COFFEE.... However at work I do use a Keurig with the Bold setting strictly for the convenience. Your video is Excellent.....I follow your cleaning suggestions regularly....as well as the use of filtered water. I can't stress the importance of cleaning these machines especially at work where I've seen slimy gunked up residue leftover from gross vanilla bean or French vanilla or other " Flavored " coffee pods. Our Keurig is the higher end which has a built in filter....multi Oz setting as well as Bold setting. It also has an easy to remove & clean cartridge/tray ..which All makes for pretty good coffee....NOT GREAT...but Pretty good. Lastly you are correct on the cheapo pods. Ugh. Also I've found the hot chocolate pods are a disaster....they gunk up and many times will cause the machine to malfunction with an error code. As for pods...Ive tried them all and yes Personal taste is unavoidable....but I have found that "Colombian" flavor pods give the best " Coffee strength" of all the Colombian Brands...I have found " Gevalia Colombian " the ABSOLUTE BEST....followed closely by...MCCafe (Yes McDonald's) Colombian K-cups.....both even at 10oz Bold setting give a damn good "Convenient " cup o ☕️ !!

Just found your channel, so glad I did! I make 4 of these mistakes with the exception that I do not buy generic kcups, only top of the line and I do use bottled water. I just received my new Keurig today, the Elite which I am extremely happy to see on your list of recommended brewers, (yes I'm old school, lol) so these tips will definitely help me, especially the one about rinsing. Nobody I know does that but it makes perfect sense! I'm definitely subscribing to your channel. Your presentation is awesome! PS: Now I'm off to watch the annoying things about my new Elite which will probably make me hate it, lol

Hi Great video, thanks. Two points about the cups that don't have the plastic cup: 1) they are fully biodegradable. I have seen the time laps video of these and they totally broke down to dirt before the meat on a chicken bone was gone (both in the same shot). Even the ring that looks and feels like plastic is actual made of compressed coffee been shells. 2) they are much fresher coffee. The sealed cups need to be fully staled before they can be sealed up otherwise the off gassing will pop the foil tops. If you look at the silver bag these come in there is a vent / valve to release the off gasses ... because these are much fresher coffee. I used to work at a grocery chain and knew the coffee people and got the inside scoop. Like you say, never as good as a pour over or press, but the best of the "instant" options. And yep, the cheep discount stuff is cheep and horrible. I like a larger coffee but see your point on smaller size with only 11 g of coffee. Thanks

Slight correction: while vinegar DOES have some disinfectant properties due to it's acetic acid, it's really a crappy disinfectant. I use it in a Keurig due to it's solvent effect, to keep scale from building up . CITRIC acid, used in the Keurig descale solution, works better to keep the water flowing. After a vinegar run I also find I have to rinse with several TANKS of water to get rid of the vinegar odor in my coffee.

Our Keurig wasn’t pumping water through it so we used vinegar to run through it. We ran it about 4 times and hubby thought vinegar should be gone by then but it wasn’t. He made cup of coffee and had to throw it away because it still had vinegar going through it. Lol! I emptied out and put fresh water in tank.
@Dianatorres6990

@@dgh5223 the water can be dumped , but the system still has vinegar, so I run the whole tank twice. The water with vinegar that I pumped out ,I throw in the washer or bathroom sink. I make my k cups with my favorite coffee. Walmart sells the refill kcups. I'm very frugal.

@@cak8132 in my experience those those refill cups it can be (or must be) super tricky and usually I've ended up with watered down tasting coffee no matter what I've tried. I suppose someone that is an expert and knows the right amount (or trick) and how to use it properly can eventually find or make coffee to their liking, but I was never able to find that correct balance and I tired it with many various coffees. Plus depending on how strong you might want it, thicker quality coffee can clog the machine using those refill cups. And I've tired better thicker stronger coffees and it still came out watery for myself. lol. It was an interesting experiment I just gave up trying with those refill cups. It made horrible coffee that I ended up throwing down the drain almost every time. Good luck though if you try it.

I have the Keurig 2.0. I took all the loose parts out. Soaked in vinegar and hot water. Then, scrubbed each item. As well as wiped the inside of the machine. Where the part comes out. Used a little vinegar and hot water for that also. When soaking the pieces, you'll see it's getting cleaned when you see vinegar bubbles in your water/vinegar solution. I washed with soap and rinsed all parts over and over, rinsed with hot water. I crossed my fingers and put all the pieces back. Making sure, when I removed the needle to point the needle in the direction, I found it. PS: I was this close to throwing it in the trash. But she's a working. Yippee! Thank you for your video. 🤗

I got my first mini kuerig a couple months ago and so far love it and i look forward to upgrading in the future but which resuseable pods would you recommend? Also I never grinded my own coffee but I'm interested in learning to save money so how would I know if I'm grinding my coffee correctly so it doesn't go through its pod? Would you recommend a coffee grinder too lol. Thanks for sharing your tips 😀 😊

I own the K155 and have not seen the puncture problem with this machine at all. I sometimes prefer milder coffee but will try the 6 oz instead of 8. Still my fav cup is Maxwell House, HouseBlend and find it delightful with some creamer and sweetener even with 8 oz of water. My machine does not have a strong button but I bought the Keurig precisely for an occasional milder cup. I would never use tap water. We have very hard water. Strangely enough, the taste with filtered water was much improved from that of bottled water. As for washing, I agree and is only common sense. Great advice on cheap generic K-cups! With this said, over the years I’ve bought different machines with the Nespresso being my least favorite. My Italian made espresso machine is great but when a milder cup is what I want, it’s the Keurig. I have also learned ways of preparing different K-cups to suit my taste. For a Cafe Escapes mocha, for example, I brew only 4 oz and add another 4 oz of warm milk. It’s a matter of preparing it to your liking to succeed with most machines.
