I'm a half century old and just today I learned that England has mountains, and beautiful ones at that. I live in an area of Canada blessed with more lakes and nature than one man will ever explore (trust me I'm trying) but nothing quite like this. Cheers

There's something about low lying mountains and marilyns (500-1300m) that foster beautiful landscapes. The climbs are more accessible too.

Did this Monday just gone, including a trek up to the top of Catstye Cam, and had similar conditions. Your reference to the video game is exactly what we said. For me, the cloud cover made it easier to deal with the height, but was frustrated to not be able to see where we were going. One of the best walks I've ever done. So many different parts to it, really fun :)

Great video. I remember going up Hellvelyn back in 1965 with 2 blokes from a pub I knew at Newby Bridge called the Swan one called Arthur the other I just cant recall his name Mick I think it was and he was fit as a flea ,we decided the night before after a few beers as you do , why dont we climb Hellvelyn in the morning. So after leaving the pub at 11pm all the merrier we met up at 6 the next day drove up climbed it from the Thirlmere side. It was a long hike up there ,we had little by way of supplies ,walking gear was basic Arthur was wearing his builders boots the other lad his farming wear. On reaching the summit we went down along Swirrel and back up Striding. It was misty going up but the skies opened up and we had sun the rest of the walk. Got back to Grasmere early afternoon as we were starving and found the first cafe for some decent grub then later on back inthe pub to reminisce in the evening. A grand day out it was ,onevto remember. Arthur sadly no longer with us I lost track of the other lad ,Happy days😊.

I've climbed Helvellyn twice, first time was on a route that covered Sheffield Pike, Hartside, Raise and White Side before reaching Helvellyn. I was due to return via Swirral Edge but a thunderstorm came in a few hours earlier than I expected, so retraced my steps to Stick pass and descended via that more gentle path. The following day I took Swirral Edge up Helvellyn as I didn't fancy Striding Edge lol

I did it last year supping 6 tinnies of Stella on the way up and a 17 year old Staffie that needed carrying most of the way. Was windy! Snow and ice on the top! Not going lie was probably the most scariest thing I've ever done. Everyone was turning back at the start of striding edge. There was 5 of us, our lass was only wearing 3 quarter jeans and trainers 🤣💪

enjoyable vid. I did this route up last week, the weather was beautiful - really warm. None of the running water off the hills, bone dry in the lakes at the moment, I walked up with my little dog and must admit, 'striding edge' was a little scary. It did put a different perspective on things when I met an outbound course of kids (probably about 14/15 y o) with their teachers, lapping it up.
