일요일 and 월요일 really was a challenge to overcome. I know I've had other struggle words but I can't think of any at the moment.

I came say 어울리다, especially if it's conjugated in the future. '어울릴...' is so hard.

I agree with billy, the sound changing rules is actually will naturally sound like that when we pronounce the words correctly & it make it so much easier to pronounce. Compare to my progress & level, surprisingly my speaking is quite good Not sure it's because of my native language or i just naturally get it because of listen while pronounce each words when i first learn 한글 & 받침

For me it's specifically ㄹ at the *end* of words. It feels easy when it's at the beginning or followed by a vowel, but I have trouble getting it to sound like the speaker I'm listening to when it's at the end-it sounds almost retroflex to me in that position...I've already improved a lot with practice though! Also thanks for this video!! I've always been praised by teachers for pronunciation in every language I've learned and Korean is the first one that I've ever struggled with, so I'm seeking out any tips I can get!

Nasalization is also difficult to me and rules of pronunciation, so many pronunciation rules i can't remember yet

ㄹ is tough for me too. Oh and I'm from J'Ohio! Go Bucks! I'm only in the beginning stages of learning. Sometimes it's hard for this 59 year old brain to wrap my head around. It gets frustrating. But I'm having aha moments now.

For me the more difficult sound to produce is o, like for example 생강, my korean teacher said i have difficulty to pronounce it

I've overcome a lot of my pronounciation issues which you mention are common for learners in the video but the one that still gives me trouble is the ㅆ-sound specifically at the beginning of a word or sentence. it's fine when it's in the middle like 있어요 but I can't differentiate well between 사다 vs 싸다 for example. when I listen to Korean people talk I can still understand which one of these they use based on the overall context of what they're talking about but I would still struggle in a direct comparison and when trying to replicate it myself.

Thanks for this. I spent 233 hours this year learning Korean on Duolingo. Feel like I still have a long way to go. These native chats with random tips are really helpful.

Duolingo is pretty bad for Korean.

Care to elaborate? One of the guests said it's critical to learn as much vocabulary as you can. I can read the alphabet and know many words though I have many more yet to learn. I can read children's books, which may not seem like much, but it's more than nothing, and more than I was ever able to do. Is it bad because it can't teach you everything? I don't know of a single source that can. Initially I started with Rocket Korean, which is terrible for beginners. You're given less time than the speakers to repeat what they say, and Korean speaking is very hard to do very fast when you know nothing. Their Japanese course is in my subjective opinion ten times easier, giving you much more time to speak with much simpler sentences starting out. I had planned on returning to Rocket Korean after completing Duolingo. I think after 1.5 years of Duolingo, I'll finally be able to do the beginner lessons at Rocket. Did you have a suggestion to make? @@seajames1690

For me (and this is an odd pull) it's 식료품 😂 it's going from ㄱ to ㄹ that gets me tongue tied

That is tricky, it kinda helps to think of the 식 turning almost to a 싱, so like 싱료품

That one gets pronounced as "싱뇨품" but still doesn't really flow off the tongue :)

I find it very interesting to hear what difficulties other people run into when learning Korean, cause its always so different. The example with 오 and 어 for example, was really easy to me because I'm from germany. Because in the 오, the line is on top, and in german that means "oben", and the o in "oben" is just prononced as 오, so those two were easy for me. But then in exchange, I really struggled with the double consonants 😂

We Germans do have it easy: 에 = e in erst, 애 = ä, 으 = e in Danke, 오 = o in Ofen, 어 = o in offen :D

Also, yeah, oben & unten are great for teaching 오 & 우. For left and right, I give the name Laura pronounced in English, so: l(eft):au r(ight)a.

Yeah, and dragon in Korean is 용. (Fun fact: BIGBANG's G-Dragon stage name is literally taken from his given real name, 권지용, 지=G, 용=Dragon)

5:57 that’s really hard! I think if there’s a video on these tricky words and commonly used ones it would be great useful to get used to seeing the words how it’s written versus hearing them and also the rules involved in changing it

Even though I've been here a while, I still struggle with words that have the 쌍자음 like ㄸ ㅃ ㅉ ㅆㄲ. To me, it's always been a kind of weird concept. I can hear the difference when people say them and Billy does it well in his videos, but when it comes to me, still think I'm doing it wrong, even though Koreans seem to understand.

Not related, but I know many native speakers from Scotland can't say 'purple burglar alarm' properly. And it's their own language ^^

For prononciation 형용사 is my nemesis, I gave up on pronouncing it correctly..

Really informative and well explained! 제가 한국에 살았을 때 등산을 많이 했어요. 속리산 갔는데 i could never pronounce it correctly. People said it’s pronounced 송리산 and even never maps has it spelled “Songnisan”. What’s going on here? 어떻게 제대로 말해요?
