Imma be honest, Kid was in an impossible situation. There was no way he would hand over his ponegliffs and he would never run away from a fight (him fighting kaido alone proves that) so when Shanks uses future sight and sees the destruction Kid makes he has to be serious and go for a killing blow. To be fair, if observation Haki wasnt a thing, Kid might have done some serious damge to Shanks and his crew. We saw in Shanks' vision of the future that Kids giant railgun thing was going to absolutely wreck the Red Hair pirates. This caused Shanks to act way more aggressively than he usually does, annihilating Kid and his crew before Kid could complete his weapon. That isnt something to scoff at, its not as though Shanks saw Kid as some insignificant threat that his crew could handle. Shanks saw Kid as enough of a threat where he felt that he had to personally go out and destroy Kid. If the strongest character in the series feels you are a big enough threat to personally defeat you, that is a huge compliment. If Luffy lost to Shanks, I doubt anyone would say Luffy was weak or mid. Losing to the best is only something very skilled and talented people can say. The guy who lost to Phelps each year was a phenomenal swimmer, losing to the best in the world doesnt change that.

You know while Kid has many flaws, I think there one aspect that many tend to overlook about him. He is actually a fantastic robotics engineer. No I am serious. Despite his always attack strategy, he is really precise with his magnet powers to a fine degree. To the point that he knows the exact specifications, wiring, and servos that goes into a fully functional machinery. Anyone one magnet powered person could simply bend metal, lift it or throw through magnetic control, but it takes another to individually place pieces of scrap metal together then refine them into prosthetic arms, giant robotic bulls, floating spiked skull mechs, or a freaking wave motion gun that actually works! Again he does all this by instinct alone, and usually on the fly. So while he is a mostly straightforward kind of guy, he does have actual skill. If only he was not so stubborn. Then again if he wasn’t then he would not be Eustass Kid.

So one thing I would like to hear more of (you mentioned it briefly) is the parallels between 'Kid's Elbaf' and 'Luffy's Sabaody' (and 'Law's Winner Island'); Each captain run into an opponent that they were not ready for and were defeated so decidedly that the narrator steps in, fully breaking the forth wall, to tell us, the reader. that they were defeated. The only difference between Luffy's defeat, and Kid's ( and Law's) defeat, is that Luffy was defeated a lot earlier in his story, and has had two years to grow from the experience. Kid and Luffy (and Law) have always been reflections of each other in a lot of ways, and I would argue that Kid's (and Law's) defeat were critical steps that they must now experience if they want any chance of reaching the same heights that Luffy has.

While describing Kidd and the language he speaks: violence, you were also perfectly describing Eren Jaeger and I never thought about the similarities until now...

Law and Kid really do even each other out. Law becomes more reckless and competitive and less serious than he usually is when he's with Kid. Kid becomes more serious and level-headed... somewhat.

Kidd definitely was strong, but like in the end, the only reason why he got defeated instantly afer getting his 3B bounty is his own personality. Which led to Shanks inevitably one shotting his ship and him.

As I said before somewhere, Eustass Kidd is a main character without the main character plot armor. He is basically Luffy if you take away the protagonist perks. Like, - Both are idiots who keep challenging those who are CLEARLY stronger than them in both raw power and army size - Both lost to their targets, several times even - Both care about their goal first, and crew safety later. So Eustass Kidd is basically a blunt example of "you are not the chosen one"

The sad thing is, i like Kidd, the street punk attitude, the death metal aesthetic, magnets and junk, even Killer subverting Hawkins voodoo by way of amputation, all cool as heck. The man beat Big Mom just to get wrecked by Shanks hanging out at the bar. Shame.

I agree with you on Luffy's life being shaped for glory and i can mention another important character that people might forgot about his role on helping Luffy and i'm talking here about Jimbei , he was there for him in his weakest moment , he was able to rescue him from being killed by Akainu and he did rescue him from his sadness , i don't know if we can see Luffy became what he is if he didn't have him in those moments.

I like kid he has a fun power and is basically the vegeta of OP, his recklessness and fearless bravado is enjoyable especially paired with how he uses his fruit

Never understood why people hyped Kid up so much. He never actually accomplished anything aside from becoming a supernova and he mostly accomplished that by killing civilians. I also ind of outgrew the whole "Never give up" trope. Sometimes you need to admit defeat and learn from your mistakes. If Kid does come back, i hope he comes back smarter rather than JUST stronger.

Okay I like Kidd alot (idk why dont ask) so I feel like i have to defend him. 1. About his "Brutality": In Sabaody we learned he doesnt just go and kill civilians for no reason, he kills the ones who make fun of his dream, I dont know how people take this as just a brutal mindless killler, he's just an agressive Luffy if Shanks didnt teach him the "not all fights are worth fighting" 2. Oda did his Best in Wano and post-Wano to show us that Kidd and Law are THE EXACT SAME LEVEL, but people like clowning on him ( I get it , it's fun), but if you actually believe they're not the same strength you're just objectivley wrong. 3. Yea his Haki seems to be just unconscience, he knows haki exists and he uses it sometimes, but be he never trained it. I get it’s a meme at this point but I never understood the genuine hate for kidd. He started out with the highest bounty, has probably the most loyal crew member on par with Zoro (killer might even be more loyal) refused to bitch down to kaido like the two other supernovas did and helped take down a freaking yonko. Literally .000001% of pirates can admit a feat on that level. Even if it was tag teaming with law that’s a crazy feat in its self and cements him in the history books. Shanks also recognized his threat level and used a pirate king attack on him all while after losing his arm. Pretty high praise compared to most new age pirates besides luffy

When your video came out about the chapter of Kid v Shanks, I stated that Kid's role is that of Vegeta from DBZ. I stand by it. Vegeta's pride clouds his judgement and can only understand things in terms of power and violence. It takes a warrior from the lower class to knock some sense into Vegeta. After his first fight with Goku, vegeta starts to realize that he can't get stronger alone, fighting for someone creates real strength within someone. Kid will probably have these same realizations when we see him again and we will see him again.

Kid is like rock Lee from Naruto. He is everything the main character claims to be: no incarnation of Jesus (Naruto luffy) worked hard without free powerups, always against the biggest odds and never gives up, his family tree is pretty normal (as far as we know) meaning he not genetically the best to ever exist, he’s nerved on top (very bad at haki like Lee was an nin and gen jutsu) and overall he just some dude who made it really really far for what he had

Sometimes I think that Kid and Ace are similar to each other, Ace had this untapped potential no mentor to refined his techniques no haki, there fighting-style are similar, didn’t have an inherited will, both had a chip on there shoulders, they had the same no-name crew number. And both only became interesting after they were both gone

Actually I respect Kidd, he is the only great pirate who isn't a D, who don't have famous ancestor or sensei who taught him to be strong but he manages to become one of the strongest pirate in the current world so he deserves respect

I think I figured Kidd out. He’s symbolically the novice headstrong kid pirate that had no place “playing pirates.” He’s also the antitheses to Luffy in how he handles conflicts.

Kid reminds me of someone who never backs down despite the fact that he for all purposes should. Also in regards to his backstory it reminds me a bit of what happened to the Phantom Troupe in Hunter X Hunter just less severe. I think while he is not done in the story overall he may be done in the race to Laughtale.

Kidd has some of the best lines in the series. Oda wanting to hype Shanks to ridiculous highs is the reason for his downfall. There is no reason not to use that moment to show both characters' abilities.

I agree with this video almost completely. I do think there’s more to kid even starting that fight with shanks in the first place. Kid’s only interaction with them before lost him an arm and after the events of Wano his judgment got skewed. I completely believe that Kid thought he had no way out and fighting desperately was his only choice. Also side note: I know people shit on kid for “not knowing shanks would be there” but he saw the ship completely just didn’t know shanks was so fast and could catch him off guard so easily. Seriously I feel that jab is just pointless and kicking a guy while he’s down

I remember when the Eleven Supernovas were introduced, and Oda was kind of expecting Eustass Kid to be the most popular one and had him temporarily team up with Luffy to set them up as rivals (and I guess for good measure also have Law there too). It feels like Kid never fully lived up to the potential Oda supposedly saw in him. :(

I really hope Kid gets something, anything that'll shove him back into the story. I mean chances are he'll wash up on Elbaf, land of giants, Prince Loki and the secrets of Ohara, which just so happens to be Luffy and Vegapunk's next destination. Something has to come out of that.

Considering this is One Piece where characters seemingly bit the dust turned out to be okay, Kidd and his crew are rescued from the sea and wrapped up in chains where they're surrounded by Red-Hair Pirates and their friends from Elbaf and subordinate crews partying together.

Personally, I expected Kid to be English, because of the many references to British punk rock, including one of his crewmates who's name is literally "UK". I bet the 4Kids dub would have given Kid a Cockney accent, had it got ass far as to Sabaody. But since England and Scotland both form the UK, you can safely say that's where the Kid Pirates are from.

Kidd was just fodder for oda to make shanks more hype. He remembers this is a pirate world every now again, especially when his unintentional side characters get so hype his editors want them to have more screen time.

12:40 I don't think this is a fair claim. Luffy may have a powerful DF and training from Raleigh, but he wasn't gifted his current level of power out of nowhere. He chose to eat the fruit, not knowing it was a DF. He trained for many years on his own to learn how to use it. He gathered his crew through strength of character and by beating their enemies up with his own hands. The Gum Gum fruit doesn't give him strength, it gives him stretch. He earned Reliegh's respect as well as the respect of the others who aided him. They didn't help because he was Luffy, they did it cuz Luffy was 'him' "Ivory tower" a tower he built himself with his own hands.

"Expectations were never high" is honestly selling short how strong Kidd was in Wano. He was a one-man unit, getting tortured by Basil Hawkins WHILE fighting an Emperor of the sea. He was a clear underdog and it sucks that Oda is tossing him out now like this. He was my least favorite of the Trio as well, but what's really to be expected when his personality matches the personality of a minor side-villain in an East Blue arc, all bravado and no wisdom versus the main character Luffy and the fan favorite Law? It didn't help that he looked like a clown thanks to his face, which made him look like a Punk versions of Buggy.

I feel like Luffy wasn't held back by Rayleigh, but rather grew to agree with Rayleigh after Ace's death. If anything, Jinbe's the one who encouraged Luffy to keep going when his will would have been crushed in that moment.

I seriously never understood people who always hate characters for failing, not doing anything or I don't know how else I would describe e.g. Kid's situation. I love him as a character. Why should I hate him just because he got defeated or whatever? He's there to make the world more immersive and I am here for it. Not everybody needs a purpose or needs to do something crazy. It's more realistic this way. Most of the people in our world also just wake up to go to work for their whole lives and then they pass away, that's life.

Eustass Kid represents a Luffy that had no one to keep them on the straight and narrow, without a care for civilian casualties or care for taking his time to get stronger, and I agree with you Liam he was on the hype about help and take down Big Mom thus he was not prepared for Shanks.

To be honest, I still like Kid on the same level as I did in Sabaody. Sadly, he got to cocky after defeating Big Mom on top of he tenacity for violence. He needed Law's help, he only just got his awakened powers which weren't fully mastered at the time, and he was facing a emperor on the sea which could lead to him being fell into the sea and drowning. But we will see he again because of his stubborn attitude, and plot armour. He's the same character archatype as Vegeta (DBZ) and Endeavour (MHA). So it's possible that he gets a grand ending to his story. For example, his real life counterpart, Captain William Kidd, was hanged for execution. If he does die, let it him die a legend.

Kidd has always been one of my favorite characters, and he only became such a high level after he got his s### rocked. He’s luffy but angry and I like that.

I know people hate on Kidd because it's fun, but Luffy was just as useless for most of the series. I actually think Kidd has more willpower than Luffy in some instances. When luffy "lost" his crew at Sabaody, he cried and was gonna give up until Jinbei talked him out of it. And people can speculate what would have happened if Jinbei wasn't there, but it's a fact that Luffy was down bad and ready to give up. Kidd was preparing to take on a Yonko without having a possible top 20 strongest character of all time to train him for two years (Luffy had Rayleigh), and when he got betrayed he still said he'd rather die than surrender. I think people look passed all of the help Luffy has gotten and how many times he's been saved by allies or spared by enemies. Literally the only reason the Strawhats have lasted this long is because Luffy is likeable and has inherited will that makes people want to follow him. Almost every arc Luffy would've been defeated if the main villain would have tried to kill him outright like Shanks did Kidd and when the villain did try to kill Luffy he just bounced back because of plot.
