Defense shat the bed because they overespected way too hard their 1-2 lines plus they arent creative enough on the PP... Helle did his best... wasnt perfect but he did his best ... I hope Bones retire... he legit got outcoached big time.. right at after the first period of game 2.. u knew jets were losing this one... zero adaptability ..

@@leagueidiot3052 Three Canadian NHL teams played games that had started on Tuesday Central Time. First up was the fifth game of the Leafs-Bruins series, that game decided not even 150 seconds into OT, and before 9 p.m., ending 2-1 for the Leafs. Although after the Jets were to be eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Canucks would lose a close game of their own, putrid defense hurt the Jets so badly. Giving up 5 (4 excluding empty-netters) or more goals per game was likely only going to lead to disaster, with the Jets lucky to win even ONE of those games.

I didn't watch all the games, but it was obvious to me the Jets don't have a defense core to handle the playoffs. I see a lot of blame thrown at the net, but what do you expect to happen when a high flying offense blasts past the defense? It's like my Habs taught the Jets nothing two years ago...

I don't think this is all on the Jets, I think this series is about Colorado finding another level for playoff hockey. Maybe the Jets don't have that extra level and that accountability would probably go toward the front office and coaching for not getting the core to believe they can respond when they get punched in the mouth (figuratively.) As an Avs fan who's watched over 75 games per year for the last five or six years; I can say Colorado learned what Tampa did when they went back to back about the regular season. The effort wasn't always there in this regular season for Colorado; and that was also the case with those Tampa teams (they won the Presidents trophy the year before winning, and got swept in round 1. They didn't win their division either of the cup winning years by conserving energy (and cap space with LTIR.) Colorado really responded to the playoff atmosphere maybe not immediately, but by the end of Game 1 when the "Pull your goalie" chants rained down on Georgiev, the entire team took that personally and not only wanted to win, but crush those Winnipeg fans (Devon Toews is a big part of this mentality in Colorado, and I love him for it.) Again, as an Avs fan; I thank the Jets fans for motivating my team in a unique way, you don't score 29 goals in 5 games against the best defense/goalie in the NHL regular season on accident, and I think you guys really got us rolling to a point where we're playing the right way at the right time. Go Avs Go!

I think the jets need to find a way to get a legit 1C. It's easier said than done but they have some prospects to dangle. I think Ehlers is also a nice trade piece. I just feel Scheifele would be better at 2C.

Before the series Jared Bednar was asked by the media if he was concerned about losing all 3 regular season games to Winnipeg this year. His response was fantastic: “No, I’m not really concerned. They haven’t seen our team yet.” Rick Bowness needs to be fired. He got taken out to the woodshed this series.

It’s exactly that. Did the jets not preform up to standard? Yes. Did the Avs actually just rock up for the first time properly against the jets and were too hot for them to handle? Also yes. It seems clear that the Avs are the better team. Jets could have been better sure; but the Avs also have several gears, and at their height it seems just too much for the jets.

Either the Jets are not a playoff team or Bowness is not a playoff coach. I won't rack my brain trying to figure out which one. For a team that finished 4th overall in the League, they really bombed in this series. I'm thinking that Neil Pionk may have played in his final game in Winnipeg.

Won't disagree there. Just want to point out that there were signs of what team the AVS put together and that was the run they had following the trade deadline. But seems everyone, including the Jets coaching staff, focused on the AVS last 9 games of the season. The amount of "professional" analysts who did the same and only focused on the last 9 AVS games should be embarrassed.

As an Avs fan this assessment is not accurate I feel. Hellebuyck was phenomenal. He let 2 softies at the most. The problem is when the Avs entered into the zone he was under siege very quickly and for extended periods. The SOG totals from the regular season vs the playoffs back this up. The guys in front of Hellebuyck failed, they expected him to be this brick wall while they would leave players open. He can only do so much while getting peppered constantly. When the Avs’ first line was out all the attention was on Mac, Rantanen and Makar. Usually they would double team Mac, this would always leave Lehk or Nichushkin open and usually near the slot. The Parisi line got things done by being a menace, and creating turn overs as if they weren't given enough credit. The other two lines capitalized on the momentum the Parisi line created. The Jets overthought their game I feel, and because of that, they played tight and out of their element. It was more about negating the dangerous players instead of adhering to basic principles.

Jets fan here - completely agree. End of p2 in game 4 shots in slot were 15-2. Any goalie facing constant odd man rushes, high scoring area shots, players alone in front of net etc will be letting a lot of goals in. First two periods last night were better Defense and they still gave up a few horrible looks, that’s telling. Edit to add - well deserved series win. Wasnt even close. Best of luck

Hellebuyck has the worst goals saved above expected of any goalie in the playoffs right now. It wasn't entirely his fault but he was not even close to phenomenal.

@@neutralsportsfan17tough to be phenomenal when you’re getting pumped with shots and chances all game. If you look back at the games, he let in very few soft goals. The Avs earned every win and should have won game 1 as well.

Totally agree. I think maybe Bowness is too old to get the players ready mentally for the playoffs. Cheveldayoff couldn’t have given them a better roster. Playoffs are the time when heart wins games. Adjustments are big too. I don’t think the Jets had either. Weren’t winning puck battles, taking it easy on physical play especially forecheck so no o zone pressure, always seemed to be a man down during transition play by the Avs, not controlling the pace of the game. The Avs play faster and it was like the jets were trying to match speed when that really wasn’t their game all season. Their game relied on good transition in d zone and o zone pressure. In the playoffs they needed to do the same thing, just tighter plays with one another in our end so forwards coming back further to support, tighter checking in o zone, especially first two forwards, and safety in numbers on avs attacks. Our discipline, PP, and PK all sucked too. It was hard to watch tbh

Give the Avs some credit. Nobody seems to want to do that. It was the Jets defense that let the team down. Not so much Hellebuyck. Good goaltending comes with solid defense.

I picked the Jets to win this series and you gotta give the AVS credit they dictated the series after game 1 and showed up to play. AVS are such a well balanced dangerous team and they showed it. Congrats to the AVS and for the Jets really feel bad for the fans.

I surprised that people are surprised at this result. The goalie situations aside (which was a surprise) the Avs are winners and after last year's flop, they retooled to get them back to being the best offense. The playoffs expose the teams that aren't truly contenders, especially when facing legit contenders, and we saw that here

As an avs fan though, I would throw the olive branch and say Hellebuyck was asked to carry the team, and you can't do that against us. Sure, he gave up a lot of goals, but if your defense is where it should be ability and positioning wise, he doesn't need to make all those stops. Which jets fans agree?

Yup, Helle wasn't the problem here. He certainly didn't play his best but its hard to blame him when the rest of the team got walked all over. The Avs were entering the zone so easily and had constant pressure. Jets played awful defense and gave up far to many good chances.

Avs vs Jets was a matchup of the best goaltender against the best offense. What people fail to grasp is that the Avs had the best offense while also having a makeshift second line. The deadline moves gave us a true second line center. The Avs got significantly better. Of course, it took some time for those olayers to start understanding Bednars system, but they have all proven to be quality contributors. The Jets just leaned into Hellebuyck to carry them. He gave up very few (if any) soft goals. But, even the best goaltender can't be expected to carry a team that struggles to maintain puck possession.

The Jets ended the regular season with an 8-game win streak and I think that may have caused them to be too cocky or underestimating the Avs, or maybe they simply did not have enough rest. Seems to be a trend among some teams

I thought the avs looked and felt more experienced in this series. They knew exactly how to respond to going down a game. The are built for the playoffs. When people ask why the regular season stats dont mean a whole lot in the playoffs you can use this series as a case study. The playoffs have so much less room, the game is going way faster, and nerves are at an all time high. Every moment is the moment that can make or break the run. Avs have been here many times. The regular season doesnt have that much pressure and while its commendable end the season with a good record just ask the bruins how that worked out for em last year. The jets had no real answers when their goalie wasnt there to steal a game or two. As for Bowness, it cannot be a coincidence that every post season the team just looks flat in comparison to what you know they are capable of. The defensive turtle when you have a lead, and keeping the games close were the most irritating aspects of his coaching in dallas. He changed a bit since but still doing the same shit essentially.

As an Avs fan who watches every game I always find it funny when people are surprised they got beat up by the Avs. They don't get enough credit, ever. The fact is they are a great team and its not even that the Jets played poorly the whole time. The announcers cant even pronounce Nichushkin right and he scores a hatty. No credit. The guy was in rehab this year, missed last playoffs with some crazy situation. He is such a good player now people can see and they are shocked. Also, lets be real if I was a coach and I knew my first round matchup was a team I was playing literally days before the playoffs I am not giving up any signs or plays or systems that I will be using in the playoffs. Avs coaching probably did the same, then the Jets got a taste of the real avs once Gorgie could stop a puck. The avs always seem to adjust well to other teams. I also could sit back and say the Avs didn't even play as well make a bunch of excuses and take all credibility away from the Jets. Not to mention all this is happening without our Capt who is a huge loss.

Regular season goaltending doesn't carry over to playoffs. Picking the team with the better goaltending has been a terrible idea since the 04 lockout. Idk why people still do it

As an Avs fan, I thought it's was going to be a better series, too. But the Jets' overall speed was an issue, Avs added need and players with that identity with heavy forcheck before and during the trade deadline. Specifically for the playoffs, Georgev was the Avs' MVP last year, and the front office knew that superstars and goaltending just weren't good enough against well balances teams.

Helly is 2-12 in his last playoff games. Brossoit got 20 minutes, and pitched a shutout. What does our coaching do? Put in Helly of course! I called for Miller and Shmidt to be in Game 1. I said they will be your best defencemen. Guess what? They were our best defenders (besides Morrisey) We knew our PK and PP were trash since Nov. Wgar did we do? Nothing. Analytics and fans were crying for Ehlers to be in the top line. What happened? Didn’t get played on the top line. Neal Pionk is probably the worst Defender in the league. What do we do? Pay him 10x was he was earning in NY, and p ok at him 22 minutes a night. Did we find a solution for Makar? Nikushins? McKinnon? Their PP. no no no no I no no and no? Exactly.

Brossoit pulled a shutout on only 4 shots. He better have. I think people are giving him too much credit for that. The Avs were up 4-1 going into the 3rd and played a trap during the entire period.

I never blame Georgiev for their losses. Watched every game this season. To me, it all comes down to them having the following problems: faceoffs, puck control, defense/forechecking, turnovers. The Avs sucked in all of those areas most of the time during the regular season, thus generating a lot of quality chances for the other teams, and thus resulting in many goals against. In this series, however, they showed improvements by a mile in all areas, except perhaps, faceoff wins. That shows.

1:32 - I think one of the most dangerous parts about Colorado, is the Jets putting SO much emphasis on shutting down McKinnon and Makar, and that makes sense to the vast majority of people, but it allowed everyone else of their roster to shine at different moments. Mittlestadt, Parise, Wood, etc etc etc, on and on I could go... I think one of the biggest things, was Jets going in with this gameplan, and then coaching staff didn't/couldn't adjust properly. I don't think we EVER actually played "our style of hockey" once. Atleast for any real length of time...

The jets SERIOUSLY underestimated the Avalanche, game 1 was a Fluke. They probably went into the Series thinking we got this, cus the avs didn't look there best at the end of the season, but after game 1 we took off like a jet and never looked back. I just hope we end up with Dallas. I think we could beat Vegas, but i would really rather face Dallas

As an Avs fan since the move from Quebec, I watched this season and had this feeling that (with the exception of two of 10 game stretches) they were playing in 2nd or 3rd gear (with a 6 gear box before the trade deadline and a 10 gear box after). We just saw 6th gear. If they can get consistent average (~.900) keeping from Georgie, this team has true potential to get 16 wins in the only season that counts. We just saw 6th gear. Imagine 7th or 8th or 9h or 10th.

What the Avs players themselves said is that they were slacking, they had what was essentially a mental revolution, and they started turning up the heat and playing properly. The Jets aren't embarrassing, the Avs are just a great team when they play the game. Helly didn't get screwed by Georgie, they got screwed by the Avs absolutely insane offensive power.

Avs are a fantastic team, they just outplayed the Jets when it mattered most that's most important. With that being said this is like 5 straight years (when they've made it) where in the playoffs the Jets get completely embarrassed. The Jets did not add where they needed to. They needed to add at least a top 4 D, a top 6 D, and some forward depth. Monahan/Toffoli were great adds for the 2nd line yes but they had barely any actual depth outside of the top 6. The defense looked outplayed in every single game, and Hellebuyck... I think needs to be said the Jets will not win a Cup with this guy in net. He is not at all a playoff goaltender outside of 2018 where the only good team he faced was Vegas, and 2021 where he faced a terrible Oilers team and a defensively minded Habs team. Last year the Jets got exposed hard by Vegas, and this year they got exposed by the Avs. They need to fire Bowness, they need to rebuild, sell Hellebuyck while you can before that contract is unmovable in 2 years. Re-signing him and Scheifele was the worst possible move they could have made. I dare say they are the Leafs of the West, great regular season team but they do not show up when it matters most.

Jets grounded 2 years in a row. I was pulling for the Jets (if Vegas lost) because of their "attendance" issues. It would have been such an amazing story to break the Canada Cup Curse with the Jets, but they were unable to get off the runway.

Man, I feel for Hellebuyck. Guy saw his team break down defensively time and time again. Screened (by up to three guys in close) on SIX separate occasions. Multiple odd man rushes. And just not playing the disciplined style they had for stretches this season. That, and Colorado took advantage of home ice and just played smarter with leads and more aggressively when trailing. Clearly, Colorado has experience in pressure situations, and confidence in situations where closing counts. Nothing against Iafallo and Vilardi, but neither player has had that. Aside from Toffoli (who had softened with the Flames), few Jets have ever had real playoff success. And when the chips were on the table, Colorado's offensive pressure was just better than Winnipeg's defensive resolve.

I called this outcome months ago Twister. The jets are absolutely pretenders and are the Toronto Maple Leads of the west. I love when I'm right. The fact I knew this would happen for months should tell you something.

There's a psychological human need to identify a villain when an unwanted and embarrassing outcome occurs. I feel for many Connor Hellebuyck is filling this need -- unfairly. Was he sparkling? No. I think you could argue maybe 2 to 4 goals (out of the 28!) were ones you'd like to see him stop. But come on. The man faced a shooting gallery. Where was his help?

We have four skilled, healthy, and relentless lines right now. That’s the difference. Jets will never advance off two or three lines. We learned that lesson vs Dallas and Vegas. Go Avs

Helly is terrible in the playoffs. Bones refuses to play LB, our only stanley cup goalie and misplaced trust sunk us all.

I've noticed a bad trend with Helly. 3 years of regular season improvement and 3 years of playoff decline. Perhaps he's simply not a "money goalie"?

I've been watching the Jets now for the past four seasons or so and really, though he's a solid Goalie, Hellebuyck just isn't that guy that's going to get Winnipeg into the Finals. If they could get lights out Defense that might help but I already think, at least from what I've seen Winnipeg's defense has carried Hellebuyck for this long. I know it's not easy to find the right person to put in goal but he isn't the answer.

I mean.. someone pick them to win the cup... The Aves went through this with their core group. You have to elevate your play in the playoffs.. I am not sure how much of the Jet's team have play experience but they got now. Jets will be scary next year.

Jets were lucky this even went 5 games. If Georgiev even resembles a goaltender in game 1 this is a sweep.

They're my home team but I'm not heartbroken, I put money on the Canes in the East and Oilers in the West in the pre-season, Edmonton had me worried there for awhile. If they didn't make the playoffs my backup choices would have been the Canucks and Rangers. Jets were the 6th team on my list, I thought the Panthers had a better shot going into the playoffs than the Jets, but I still cheered for them until they were eliminated.

When the Avs are humming, it doesn’t matter who is between the pipes. Teams have to find a way to outscore them. There will always be defensive breakdowns. They are too fast and too skilled to keep them to 1 or 2 goals.

I thought the Lightning were riding some strong momentum from the second half of the season, and Vasilevskiy was looking more dialed in. Plus they've known how to get under the Panthers' skin in previous playoff meetings. But you're right, the Panthers look miles ahead - more like the complete team that they are.

Knights are the worst opponent for Dallas style of play. But it seems Dallas is cracking the defense. And AVS will be easier for Dallas.

lol don’t blow this up, jets played a very well oiled machine, that match there great defensive game, with an unmatched offensive juggernaut, when you’ve got a modern bobby orr in Cale makar, with the one of the leagues best players in Nate mack, who clearly will not shy away from playoff hockey, with the nichuskins, rantanens of the world, it’s tough but don’t hang your heads.

ok and the avs core is still all in their prime. mackinnon, makar, girard, toews, nichushkin, rantanen, middlestat, lekhonen .. none of them are going anywhere and will all likely finish their careers with the avs. if he ends up coming back next season, throw landeskog back into the mix. if not and he’s done then the avs easily resign drouin, who didn’t even play against the jets. teams in general are trying to play with more skill and more speed, they’re not trying to get bigger and slower like the jets did with the extensions & trades. whether it’s colorado or someone else next season, winnipeg will get bounced again. they’re a talented team but they’re not built for the playoffs.

Avs got Nichushkin back and though Georgiev didn`t look great in one game, everything else did. Walker is a great addition, Mittelstadt gives them depth, and they are a really dangerous team. The Jets had everything in place and just folded. Great goalie, a strong D, at least a solid F group. No idea why they choked, but they did. That should have been an epic 7 game clash. jets missed leadership, grit and somehow looked weak on D. They didn`t get the intensity up. Great regular season team, bad playoff team. Avs look like a cup champ, as did FLA.

idk man the preds multi goal lead blown was really bad. they are up 3-2 if they win. i loved trenin at the preds. he was a good depth scorer.

In terms of the next round, I think the Avs match up better against Dallas but would have home ice against Vegas...so I'd take Vegas.

People are harsh with the Jets. Okay they underperformed but the Avs deserve a LOT of credit as the entire team showed up and gave it all and all players became 'hot' at the best possible time. Helleybuck being schooled by Georgiev is puzzling though!

As a Winnipegger getting to believe we are the best NHL retirement home for hockey players that expect large salaries and not have to produce. Ya they made the playoffs but this was expected with the skill level of players. "Just do good enough to get into the playoffs and then coast so you do not get injured, before golf season" seems to be the attitude. Something is missing in the attitude department and until they get it together as a team "consistently" they will remain a fictional team. Just saying.

I was actually planning a video on the Leafs because I had 0% confidence in them heading into Game 5, but I have to give them some credit for winning Game 5 in Boston - without Matthews, too. For the Jets to lose 4 straight, finishing things off on home ice, is downright pathetic.
