@@GaninIsMyName Also, anyone who knows anything about Western music theory. Rarely does a song end on a (iirc) ii m7 chord. And even those with no knowledge of music theory or barbershop conventions would likely have seen the emotion going on up there to see that the lead needed a moment to pull himself back together again. (Had he recently lost his father before this performance? This interaction seemed so raw... even more so than subsequent performances of this song by them... Or is he just that amazing an actor/singer?)

I cry everytime I hear them perform it, even when it's not in person, and I know full well what to expect. I was privileged to hear it in person at an educational week, shortly before they performed it on the contest stafe for the first time. Full on sobbing, as I think of my mom who introduced me to barbershop as a teenager. She died young of cancer 11 years ago, and I always miss her most when I'm about to perform or watch a performance. They got me again Friday night.

The choice to use the major four chord at the end, instead of the typical minor four you hear in barbershop music is just perfect. Especially when paired with the lyrics "again", it ends up souning like a very churchy Amen, which fits perfectly with the lyrics that read like a prayer. Not to mention just how gorgeous it sounds. This arranger is fucking great. The most beautiful barbershop ending tag Ive ever heard.
