In this video, we're taking a look at some of the most expensive, rare, and weirdest film cameras and lenses ever sold at auction. After doing a deep dive recently on some auction sites, I was fascinated by a world of film gear that I never knew existed-including the world's most expensive lens, a few space cameras, a ridiculously pricey Leica, and even a camera for a pigeon.
Also, just want to say a big thanks to Leitz Photographica Auction (www.leitz-auction.com) and Wetzlar Camera Auctions (www.wetzlarcameraauctions.com) for allowing the use of their images in this video.
Enjoy!

I love the idea of the engineers in Zeiss Ikon being like: "So we heard of this craze of making ultrafast lenses so we built a 0.33 lens with parts we had around because we could."

As a Chinese I can somewhat understand the special meaning of Dongfeng and Hongqi 20. Both of these cameras were produced under the intent of Jiang Qing, who was the first lady on China. And is also loved photography; and thus wanted to create something that both shows the peak of Chinese eingineering and industries. But I guess realistically, the idea of reverse engineering doesn't mean anything. If it was mass produced, it would just be like any other leica copies from russia on ebay. Both of these are on display at Shanghai's Old Camera Museum. Been there once but back then didn't know what they were lol. Have to go back and see

@@KyleMcDougall CLE has aperture priority auto exposure. Im not sure what metering system it uses (likely centerweighted) as opposed to the Leica CL's 1 degree spot meter. I’m pretty sure that all variations of the Leitz Minolta CL / Leica CL (35mm film camera) were manufactured by Minolta in Japan. The later Minolta CLE was different beast that Minolta produced on its own offering aperture priority automatic mode using through-the-lens, off of the film metering.

Hi Kyle, Guess what, I happen to have a camera that is so rare, nobody even knows it exsists ! I bought it on a camera fair together wit 2 lenses and the magazine, I later realized there was someting odd about this item because I own several camera's of this type... It took a while before it apeared to me what was different. A few years ago I contacted a German photography magazine called "Photo Klassik", they were so kind to put a little artikel in it acompanied with a few foto's I took from it. There were a few reactions from readers who replied and said the camera was not rare at all but they got it wrong, they were refering to another type, so not mine.... I send the camera in for a CLA to the only Dutch Rolleiflex repair man and he confirmed that this was a ORIGINAL RARE BLACK ROLLEIFLEX SL66 even he has never seen ! From the Rolleiflex SL66 there are, I believe 26.000 build but only 10 pieces are completly build in BLACK, invluding the magazine ! The German autor Claus Prochnow who was working at the Rollei plant whrote several books about Rollei, in one of these there is proof of the existance of my Blackie, in the book Rollei Report-2 on page 26-547 in the top box, upper right hand corner there it is listed as; " Schwarze Kamera 10 Stuck 1973 Nicht gelisted Sonderausfürung" which means, Black camera 10 pieces, not listed, special edition 1973 ! There is a Rolleiflex website and the guy who runs it is Dutch but he lives in Australia, I contacted him but even he with his elaborate website has never heard of it... Now I hope to get YOU a real scoop. BTW, it is for sale 😊
