The fact that this is a reprint set going for probably 6-7$ for a draft pack and the biggest hits are currently 35$ and going to drop is criminal. Not to mention the fact that so many of the chosen rares and even mythics are worth less then a dollar.

Bruvac backstory is that he was an advisor that doubled the layoffs at some wizardry academy

Ravnica was the first plane I experienced in Magic. I was in middle school when my friends showed me how to play with their cards and I got a Code of the Orzhov deck that evening. My best friend played Izzet and he destroyed every time, but I only remember having fun. The artwork drew me in--I was absolutely enchanted by Orzhov Guildmage. But the gameplay was the hook. Even though I've taken long breaks from the game since, I kept that box and all the cards from that deck safe over the years as a reminder of where it started.

30 seconds in and I already thumbed up the video; my heart goes out to all the hard working employees who go the short end of the stick after putting their heart and soul into their work I recently became unemployed myself as a result of the auto union strike as I was a supplemental worker and it's taking me some time finding a new position to make ends meet.

Appreciate the disclaimer at the start. Those (former) WoTC employees deserved so better, and I can only hope that the backlash and solidarity from the players and content creators will lead to change in the future

Cloudstone Cruio was actually going for about $50 before this set was announced so the price has been depressed quite a bit already. just the set being announced was enough for the price to start dropping as people correctly speculated that this card would be reprinted and when it was finally spoiled it hit the low its at now.

The Shock Lands and Cyc rift getting reprinted are really my biggest excitement for this set. Finally making commander staples more accessible!

Jeez, its heartbreaking to hear about those layoffs. I'm usually a big pack buyer, but if that's how Hasbro is gonna be, I don't intend to buy any packs anytime soon, shocklands or none. I can support my LGS through singles if I need to.

Boxes are currently going for 175 on TCG. Meaning you gotta work hard to break even. Which is a shame because this should have been a love letter to Ravnica instead of a showcase of problems with modern MTG.

One year later and Dominaria Remastered is $100 a box. Down from $200+ these reprint sets really aren’t worth cracking unless you’re going to draft.

designing these sets for draft and them pricing them at premium prices is wild. stores are never going to fire a draft at $35. Least of all when sets contain nothing desirable at all

I've noticed recently that 90% of small game shops and official retailers are no longer selling sealed boosters but they open them and sell cards as singles.

I'm excited about Bruvac being included. I really like that card and it's the one card I actually really want from the set.

I think this set will tank all the cards printed in it, but it will be good for people to have access to them. I also like that fetch lands have been dropping, but shock lands staid pricy, so now they will cheaper again than fetchs. Funny thing is, I am more excited for Skullcrack and Skewer the Critics finally getting a reprint, about time 😉👍🏻

The love and promotion of LGC's made me subscribe to this channel. I love it.

From what I've heard, WotC itself is actually above the line for profits, but Hasbro as a whole was down. But due to the structuring of the company (I can only guess a very poor structuring), they're "sharing the load" of the layoffs. Not that it would have been excusable to do so right before Christmas even if it only hit the underperforming sectors. It's hardly justifiable to do so at all, especially at this scale. But the whole thing is rotten, bottom up.

Many of the TCG stores in my area aren't even buying newer singles anymore. They only want reserve list cards or sets at least ten years old. Told me "the new cards are just so overprinted so even if we take them, we'll likely take a loss with the fluctuation in prices". I don't know think that's entirely true, but I know an omen when I see one.

Looking forward to that video on the WOTC layoffs. These layoffs will hurt a lot of people and are going to hurt the game in the long run. It looks like another instance of the tech financing boom and bust strategy for stock growth. Pushing up into a hype cycle to pull in investors as high as it can go and then use some of the collected capital and do cuts and layoffs on the downward slope. Then repeat growing value for the investors until it can’t grow any higher. Honestly when I compared that tech financing strategy with Hasbro, it made everything they have done in the last few years make a lot more sense. Moon Channel did a good video on the video game industry using this strategy all over a couple weeks ago.

I started playing during the last Ravnica block so in my representation of a Planeswalker as a player Ravnica has been my home and I’m very excited to draft this set. But also I am now iffy on supporting Hasbro.

Bruvac the Grand Delinquent. I thought that was pretty obvious right? A lot more companies are doubling down on the min max strategy. I won't be surprised if we start getting more reprints in sets and less original cards (or at least cards that are just copying existing cards).

Bruvac.. he was the brother, interested more in libations than his more responsible, younger brother. That younger bother opened a convenience store and was kind enough to let his older brother pursue dreams of distilling fine beverages in rear, storage area of this store. For convenience purposes clientele referred to the older brother by his gods given name Bruvac whereas his younger brother got stuck w the name Shopvac. It wasn’t an unlikely pairing and the two made a fine team.. but as history often proves, sibling rivalry prevails and after too many “you suck” comments found their way to Shopvacs generous ears the two parted ways and only Bruvacs name would be heard by the annals of time, although any specific details are fuzzy at best.

The reprint I’m the most happy about is Tolsimir Wolfblood, or more precisely the Voja token he generates. It goes for about 10$.

Rules question: If you use farseek, or other land search method, and it says put the land into play tapped, can you still pay the life for it to be untapped, or does the search tapped override the land's tap/untap method?
