I thought yall were bs or have dog ears but I put the phone closer and heard it. Is that because of circuit design or a faulty part? I live in an old house and the wiring seems to affect many of my amps and pedals that way. I bought a power conditioner outlet and helps out a lot on some gear but some are e still just so noisy.

After mixing live music for over 30 years - I can tell you a lot of musicians have Terrible tone despite of the equipment they have. The pros can dial their tone on a toaster.

The tone ? I've got a 30 watt Marshall and a EVH guitar... I can't get a bad sounding tone out of it.... Bad sound usually equal bad play.

I have a SLX and it sounds top notch with ANY POWER TUBES! 6550's, EL 34's, 6L6's, whatever! Sounds fantastic compared to any of my customized early 70's Marshall Superleads period. Mix and match different Marshall's so multiple tube colors paint the aural spectrum...think Van Gogh and Rembrandt!!! You guys rock 4 real!!

the common complaint about this amp is there is no front end access to the tube.(signal blocked by input diodes)..that is where you have to USE YOUR HEAD>>>>(there is a tube in the loop...it is a buffer tube for the loop...but it can be driven by an eq like the front end of ANY TUBE AMP>>>so if you KNOW how to use it...THIS IS NOT DIFFERENT THAN A NORMAL TUBE AMP (with a boost circuit up front...think tube screamer in the front end)

The earliest versions had EL34s which have a bit more warmth and was the original design of these amps. They switched to 5881s because of a tube shortage during that time sadly making them sound thinner and giving the amp a bad name. Also, if you add like a BBE sonic maximizer or EQ pedal in the loop (or even just a cable from send to return) it adds another gain stage and makes the amp sound much better. These amps are like most Marshalls, to get the best tone out of it you have to crank that volume.

Motley Crue were HUGE in Italy in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. They were bigger than Kiss was in 1983,84,85,86, until Crazy Nights came out in 87.

I still have mine that I bought new in 96. NEVER had an issue with it. It's been a beast. I had an 81 Les Paul with a particularly weak bridge pickup that didn't sound good thru it, but that was the guitar not the amp. Just a killer rig.

The JCM 900 is good enough for Iron Maiden, and mine works great with or without pedals. The clean channel is a bit weak but that's what pedals are for!

@@twoguysoneamp The JCM800 2210 already included diode clipping and this amp is a legend. Above all, I think that people expected a bigger evolution when it was released, although this amp lacked dynamics compared to the 800.

The amp is fine, its those speakers in the marshall Cabs, Switched to MESA over sized and it will sound even better.

I was specifically not knocking your tone at all Just stating a lot of the complaints against the 900 is more of an issue of the Marshall cab. I should have been more descriptive. But your video title is specific about the head only. I own a couple of Marshall heads myself

😂 go look at a schematic of this amp…..it’s one big metal zone circuit with a power amp. Works great for Cookie Monster vocal chugg style but that’s about it 😉

A lot of the hate probably comes from the fact that these amps were new stock in the 90s and what a lot of grunge and 90s bands bought, used and recorded with. That particular tone is associated with the music many people despise.

Vladimir Lenin rippin' on the fretboard! Like it. I have that amp and other Marshalls. It's a good amp. The controversy comes in when you start comparing it to other Marshalls. It generally falls a step or two behind tone-wise but it's far from junk. On it's own it is plenty useful and has some good tones inside.

Iam a Marshall guy but for that price i might go to other options from them. I have a Dsl40c that to my disapointment didnt had a master volume so i made it one and the amp gained a new soul and life. Thanks for the reply guys and keep Rockin it 🤘

@@twoguysoneamp yes but on my case i needed to get a master volume for the amp cause until then i was getting ready to change speaker cause i wasnt happy with it but once i did that it became a diferent animal. But if you go for a 100w or a 50 you prob are good,try it is not the best but it delivers and the cleans arent that bad.

I test drove this model when it first came out and it lacked tone in many ways...picked up a Soldano 50 hot rod + which side by side blew the 900 away

I tested a Roland Cube 30 and finally I bought a Friedman BE100 Deluxe which literally disintegrates his little asshole. Small detail, it is "slightly" more expensive 😅

The TSL 100 was one of my favorites (at high volume). This 900 sucks balls like I remembered (played through one a friend of mine had), it's even worse than the 900 SL-X I had. I even prefer the TSL 100 over the JVM 410H I had. Had the JCM 800 2203, 2204 and 2203 KK, original Jubilee, SL-X, TSL , JVM 410 and an old 1959 SLP from '75 but none of these sounded as bad as this 900 here....

@Stefan-Van-der-Pulst I had a tsl 60 and 100. Literally the worst marshall amps I ever owned. They sounded ok but the reliability and quality if both were garbage level. Cleans were gutless and the drive channels were either mud or fizz without much in between. It was a bad time for rock music in general and marshall was trying to stay relevant to the scene. I don't blame them but there is a good reason the discontinued them

@@jaycole4691 You're right about the reliability, that's why I have had 3 of them. The 60 doesn't sound like the 100 though. And the 100 only sounds good past 4 on the master. And that is the way I used them.
