Coltrane's solo always sound very sophisticated, yet, complicated to my ears, which, mostly I couldn't catch anything at all. I just know about this Coltrane pattern first time in this video; many mysteries solved here, explained clearly step by step about how to practice it. I should work on this. Thank you so much, Søren! *... And I really feel motivated when you said in 9:37 ".... and just play one 💯 times 😊"

Coltrane changes and patterns can be very complicated, but again it is only music. I am so happy that you can use my material and see how the patterns are usable for you. Thank you for your inspiration to me. Questions are really welcome :) Feel free to join my facebook group for more info. facebook.com/groups/sorenballegaardsaxophonelessons/?ref=share All the best, Søren

Listen to ”workin with the Miles Davies quartet” You hear Coltrane but not as he became, he’s not ”ready” in this album. But you can hear What’s about to come.

Totally agree - cooking relaxin, workin, steaming - Coltrane sounds amazing and indeed hints of the "new" sound. maybe I should a video on one of his solos from one of these albums - a solo analysis!

Great lesson. Thank you ! I have also seen the minor Coltrane pattern as 1-2-b3-5 as well. I think the 1-b3-4-5 sounds better. Also, the 1-2-b3-5 wouldn’t work over the upper structures. Thanks again

Hi Brian, thank you for the compliment. You are totally right about the patterns. I think that both the patterns are great. If you explain this from the major scale you see that building up the patterns are 1235 and 1b345 because else you get the 4th degree in there. If you follow what I mean. But this is such a big topic, amazing possibilities. Thanks again. :)
This is how to connect the scales to the chords
