Hi Tim, yes I would agree distance control is possibly the most important key in putting. To achieve this though there is one fundamental that is required and that is FEEL. If you don't have feel it is extremely difficult to execute distance of a putt. One of the drills I like to use is the ladder drill which in my experience has proven to be highly effective in helping students obtain feel for distance. Enjoyed your video and explanation very enlightening.

I really liked your putting vid with Mike Malaska. He talked about "eye line" and gave you the quick test with the Tee in the ground. I'd love to here Tim's take on the where the eyes need to be relative the ball.

To control distance in putting, the time of each putting stroke must be the same. In other words we are making the time it takes to stroke a putt a "constant". Therefore we need only vary the distance back and through and by doing so we need not worry about how hard we need to hit the ball be it a 5,10 20 30 40 or more in length.

I've had a lot of success in the last year with looking at the hole from 15ft. and in. Has Tim mentioned anything about that, or do you have any comments towards the theory?

You know why looking at the hole helps? Because you keep your head still during the stroke. The biggest reason people are terrible putters is because they move the head forward before impact.

brendon, i feel i'm a good putter but 90% of the greens i play on are kind of slow which i'm used to. when i get on fast greens i really struggle and a lot of 3 putts or worse. how about you? steve

I would like to see something on pre round pace calibration, and then best way to adjust. I have not seen the greens match the practice green to often.

The only way to be consistent with distance control is to hit the putt solid (yes you can, and do, mishit putts). I know pros have a very tight distribution near the sweet spot if you put tape on the putter face, but how can the common man get similar results? (and don't say just more practice:)))

Hey Trey! A toe to heel weighted putter has helped me with better distance control, because the mishits are more similar to the solid, center hits, and there's also less twisting or turning of the clubface at impact with a mishit.

Honestly, there's not a whole lot to intrigue me here. Sure, distance > line. Why? Now what? Nothing about things I can do to help control distance. On a breaking putt, your line is dependent on how hard you hit the putt. Just nothing here. Why should I watch more? My time is valuable. I'm not doing a search for your vids if you're holding back like you you have the keys to the kingdom because not only do I not see any keys, I don't see a kingdom either.

@@jeremyl1417 Dechambeau has improved in putting because of arm lock style , he even tried side saddle before , Mcilroy has tried different gurus but kept same technique no improvement!

@@musquito333 Another example is Louis Oosthuizen. Widely known in the past of being a bad putter but this year he is 1st on the PGA Tour in the SG Putting statistics. Louis is not using armlock so it is possible to become a good one. Your initial statement is not true.
