If you opened the Codex of Power, they had icons above the category names which told you what all the aspects could go onto. Resource category is ring only.

I love the fact that you can admit that you don’t know something but are able to explain why. Tip: pay attention to which number is in blue on the aspect to see if it is worth multiplying in your 2H. +1 hydra for example is fixed, x% reduced duration not very valuable to 2x.

One interesting option as well is that Barb could easily throw their best legendary power on a 2H while leveling and assign the other 2H to the skill they use. Basically using one of the 2H as a stat stick that gives them a really powerful power, with little to no downside.

I already planned on maiming a barb because of 4 weapons but As soon as I realized 2 handed weapons have double power effect I was so hyped. Trying to figure out which power gets the best boost by being on my 2 handed weapons was so much fun. Barb is everything ive wanted it to be so far

I think Blizzard said that you can target farm dungeons with a system where (maybe on rotation) certain dungeons would be more likely to roll "helms" for example. There would be some sort of menu system where you can see this or perhaps have to have a dungeon sigil to access this. Not sure. But I think certain items dropping off certain mobs sounds better. But yeah pretty sure Blizz said it would be something like that.

As far as I remember it's not the dungeons it's the different mobs/enemy types have better chance to drop a specific item.

the problem is that some skills and builds are underperforming / next to useless without the correct aspects. and that can create a rather poor early to midgame experience. skills should feel good from the start, and get noticeably more powerful with skillpoints invested.

@@allex6580 Yes, the skills themselves could feel stronger, but thats a simple number change. As far as the Druid from what I noticed playing him, is his energy cost to damage ratio was a lot lower than it should have been. That sort of balancing is a lot more simple than the actual itemization that occurs when equipping certain items in certain slots. At least, thats my opinion.

Hey Rax, as far as I know in the beta, it showed which possible slots for each Legendary Power when you go to the Occultist and simulate removing the Legendary Aspect of the item. It will show at the top of that window as icons. (Obviously I am not sure if they will maintain this interface when the game launches).

If they can make it so that you can use the codex to get a build working, but that to become uber-powerful you have to farm, that would be very good design. I think there is a sweet spot somewhere between D3, where you get everything you need within a few hours of season start, and D2, where you can farm for an eternity and not get the item that you need to make a particular build function.

As always great content and succinct information. What I’m hoping is to theory craft like this and like you said come up with a build that isn’t just all DPS so I have to think about other aspects/abilities. This is why I’m hoping no leader boards or just scaling damage dungeons that escalate to THE ONE build.

One thing to be aware of is that you can't apply legendary aspects across item tiers (normal vs sacred vs ancestral). This means that you don't want to save a perfect roll of legendary that you get while leveling until the end game.

BTW it tells you in-game on the aspect after you extract it at the occultist... when hovering the tooltip on the extracted aspect item it tells you what it can occur on or be added to

Excellent and informative content. Easy to digest and makes me more hyped for the itemization in d4 since it's something new and unique to diablo games. Knowing this it also makes more sense why blizzard did monster scaling and open world since you can target farm certain areas/monsters and it will be a challenge. Not like youre level 40 and going back to a1 and just 1 shotting skeles. Same with select dungeons when youre leveling to target certain aspects for the codex

For the specific drop tips, he left out the part where the specific drop is added onto the regular drops. So skeletons have the same chance to drop any generic loot as everything, but they have a chance to also drop a crossbow as a separate roll than the normal drops.

early in the vid you ask if the game tells you what an offensive item is, and yes it does, when you look at the codex of power page, at the top of the UI it shows what items can use/come with that power. also yes right now resource only drops/applies on rings

@Raxxanterax Hi Rax, do you think Blizzard should consider taking those legendary aspects that modify a skill like whirlwind pulling in enemies and put it on the skill tree? Those aspects don't have a roll or stats, and only make up about 20% of aspects, yet they can really define a build. Put those new skill tree nodes behind a level unlock or quest. It would make the skill tree more exciting and give players a tiny bit of control over their build, especially when refunding points to start a new build. It's going to be a big pain to change builds when you have to find the same items just to enable the first step of making a new but effective build. Then reverting back to your old build is going to be a problem too. This is also going to become a bigger factor as Blizzard keep releasing more and more aspects into the game down the line.

There's a downside of using the amulet for an aspect: Amulets are the only items to roll with +X to skills of a certain category. For example on a Sorc, I required the Flame Shield skill for my passive slot to give me that saving throw since I was on Hardcore during the beta. So, I didn't invest a point in the tree on it, but I had the "+1 to all Defensive skills" on my amulet. It might be easy to find another item that has "+1 to Flame Shield" on it, but I think during leveling in the normal game, we won't have as much loot raining from the sky as we did in the beta. Just something to keep in mind.

Amulet rools T3 and T4 stuff... T3 stuff like FLAME SHILED roll in every piece of armor and amulets. Not even 1 to all defensives, but one to flame shield. So if you for some reasson want to focus on those you will have plenty of options. ANd the regular loot its the same. THos affixes start to roll after 15 or 20 cant remeber. 18 points Flame shield aways you.

Hey Rax! Great video as always. Any chance you could make a video going over all the different stats you can find on gear? I mean, there were plenty of affixes that I did understand just fine. +12 Intellect or Strength is pretty self explanatory, and there were some slightly more obscure ones like, +10% damage to injured enemies that I remember the game explaining to me an 'injured' enemy is when they're at like 35% health or less, but there was some crap that I just didn't understand really at all. For example, +12% Overpower Damage or something like that. I don't even know what Overpower is. I was playing a Barb and my first thought was Overpower was a skill but I was wrong. The best I could figure, it was like a super crit or something, and that wasn't the only stat that I just did not fully understand. There's just so much more going on with this game compared to D3 that even just leveling up to 25 casually, it was information overload and I kinda just stopped caring and just equipped whatever the game showed was better with green numbers, and I can't think of a more inefficient way to gear a character.

overpower is linked to lucky hit, think of it like overpowering their defenses. AND this lucky hit (overpower) could also crit,

Overpower is a 3% chance for a hit to adds your current life and fortify as damage to your attack (not Barb and Druid have ways to force an attack to overpower). You know when it goes off because the damage number is blue or if you pull of a critical overpower its orange.

Hey Raxx, I didn't see you touch on this. If item swapping is available like it was on the world boss you could do extremely high damage at multiple levels of HP. 2hand axe for +dmg to healthy and crit on injured opponents etc.

@raxxanterax the game tells u what is an offensive/deffensive/... itemslot when you go into the tab with all the unlockable dungeon legendary power. they are sortet and there are icons to each catogory. for example gloves weapons amulets for offensive

One other thing to factor in that a number of offensive affixes give multiplicative damage boosts which means if you got choice between doubling one and adding an extra affix of similar value the extra affix will win out.

Thanks Bro! This is great leap in my minut of whats ahead of me in the early (1-50) game and beyond. Cant want to see some more variety in the builds, especially in group leaderboards where I expect to see a mixture of support, dps, and tank builds not just x4 dps builds like it was in D3.

For Barb, you can use one 2h weapon as a "throwaway" slot if you don't level a weapon-swapping build. For example, if you level Bleed you'll use mostly Slashing weapons, so your 2h mace is just a stat stick. It may be worthwhile putting a good Legendary on that slot for the double effectiveness while leveling and it's likely that will significantly outperform the random stats you'll find on replacing the 2h with higher ilvl pieces during the campaign.

Nice thing about barbs is that if you prioritize a slashing build, you can put a godly legendary power on your crushing 2h, and just use it as a stat stick since it's dmg numbers wont be relevant. Or vice versa, of course.

For me as a sorc i think 2h wep, dmg while u have barrier aspect was working best with the build i was trying. I ll do the same in launch. The barbs thou , it looks like they have 2 more wepon then sorc but in reality they have 4 more wep then a sorc in value.

Rogue is insane cause you can play melee build and put your legendary aspect on your crossbow to get double the effect and pretty much never have to replace it

well, as a barb, you can imprint your best aspect onto a 2h weapon for best effect, and use it as a statstick. and upgrade to better 2h weapons on your second 2h slot.

are we absolutely positive that the bonus for barbs doesnt ONLY apply for the weapon/s that are in their hand at that very moment? it does seem super broken to let barbs have 4(?) times the aspects.

Resource legendaries dropping on helm are saturated across defensive (there are a LOT of defensive ones) and utility so the chance to get the one of 3 resource legos for your class is fairly low. For offensive powers, everybody has 2 weapon slots, 2 ring slots, 1.5 amulet slots, 1 from glove. a total of 6.5 multiplier slots. rogue has an extra 2 -> 8.5, barb has an extra 4 slots worth of legos via extra 2 2handers -> 10.5. but they really want to spend 2 on resource, which eats into at least one of their ring slots. As multiplicative bonuses would be equal for equal slots for different specs (baring specific interactions for specific abilities having higher than average strength) we can ignore the overlap of slots and just look at the bonuses barb or rogue have over other classes. That puts rogue/ barb currently projected at having 2-3 legendaries worth of juice over other classes depending on their spender, which could be at low end 1.3*1.3 = 1.69 or 69%more dmg than other classes, or up to 2.197 multiplier with 3 for more dmg or roughly +120% dmg compared to other classes for scaling. the 2 or 3 for dmg scaling depends on how many legendaries scale the damage of your build (ww vacuum doesnt increase damage but is a great quality of life for example) and if you're rogue (max 2 over) or barb (max 3 over) and IMO you REALLY want them resource aspects for shouts giving you fury while shouts are going, or hitting elites gives energy on rogue (if you're combo points) etc If the other classes end up actually wanting resource legendaries (i didn't feel i needed one on sorc/necro) then the damage gap goes back up to 3 or 4 multipliers up to +185% more dmg so up to roughly double damage multiplier of other classes. Where the base damage for % of weapon that their abilities allow to be conveyed is still very much up in the air and build dependent. barb cycles can be more or less figured out once the legendaries are known (spin2win dps should average out). How many hydras will be firing out at a time? etc So the abilities themselves as vehicles for % of weapon damage and then being scaled by legos will scale the base values of the class differently across those classes, but barb and rogue will definitely have a much bigger multiplier to their %weapondamage from legos

I think you missed just one thing. Don't remember if it is a bug or intended but some skills on barb only worked with certain types of weapons. So if a skill only workes with your 2H slashing weapon, and that is your main skill, you can actually put the double leg power on your other 2H, to get double effect and you don't need to change that, and just upgrade your slashing weapon and ignore the bludgeoning one. Obviously if you use it on a higher level item it would get more effect, but that is true for the amulet as well.

Even though I managed to get full stash in open beta of legendaries non of them were good for character I was playing. Most of them were low level too.

"Most of them were low level too" is why I really like the direction they're going in D4. Extract the legendary affixes on low level gear, imprint them on high level gear, and you're good to go. Ofc, only applies if the affixes are useful 😅

@@UltraCasualPenguin Yes it was. You could extract aspects from legendaries and put them on other rare or legendary items in the beta. The extracted aspects were in your inventory in their own tab and had a different slot for them when enchanting.

About imprinting aspects, in a Rogue for example during the lvling process, if you building melee, you can place the aspect at the 2 hander? I was considering it cause we won't use the 2h for anything else beside status and atributes, its damage is irrelevant or nah?

We could see which slot of item can have which category of aspect in the codex of power actually Based on my screens from open beta i can say : Offensive : amulet, weapons, gloves, ring Utility : shield helm chest amulet gloves boots Defensive : shield helm chest pants amulet Mobility : amulet boots Ressource : ring (yep it got changed)

The category options will be something that will change in a Season at some point as it will change things in a major way. If there is no range for an effect then you don't have to be as picky where you put it. The other thing that mats the Sorc my start is when you unlock the second enchant skill, it will be easier to setup a speed or a boss killing build by just swapping them without respecing being needed.

For rogue there are definatly some cases when playing a pure meele build where you can put your "best" codex on your 2H weapon but i see that your 2H weapin gives better stat boni than the amulet. Upgradin 2H and not putting the codex on it will improve your damage more

There is one exception to your amulet advice... if you play melee rogue, your 2h ranged weapon won't be a huge deal since it will only slightly change your modifiers. (At least that's what I'm thinking)

Basically just use the codex to get a solid build while leveling and use any great legendaries you find on the item you find it unless it's a weapon, then probably imprint it on gloves or amulet. (Amulet better power but amulet is also the most flexible spot and amulet give much better other stats than gloves).

I have a question about WW barb, +1 fury each hit. When I use double weapons does it hit 2 times more often than 2h ? I checked it in beta and Im almost sure I had lesser fury problems with 2x 1h.

it boggles my mind how some people say the itemization in d4 is boring... with all the possible combinations and choosing which aspect to put on weapon/amulet, you can come up with some pretty unique builds i feel.

Codex of power aspects can be used multiple times, its not like a normal legendary aspect you can imprint once.

Legendaries has rolled a perfect number for me quite a lot, and if you did the math, it would heavily suggest that rolling a perfect modifier on a legendary item (like "Damaging an Elite enemy grants you a Barrier absorbing up to [315 - 630] damage for 10sec. If that rolls 630 perfectly, that is really really lucky, and I have seen streamers and I have myself found a multitude of legendaries that has these big variations and still have them roll perfect. This would suggest that either we were having some cosmic luck finding so many of these perfectly rolled items within such big number ranges, or that there is a bias to roll perfect. I dont personally hate it, but I would prefer it to just be "pure" rng (a fair system without bias, not philosophically speaking). Further testing - it also quite frequently rolls the lowest possible amount on big ranges too, its not a very good system used to random these sadly.

I think this was a beta thing... same happen to me, had to many perfect roll. And to many worst rools, very few inbetween rools.

Aspects from normal and veteran items doesn't go into nightmare items. Same way Nightmare aspects doesn't fit into Hell items. So sometimes it's good to imprint some aspects into leveling weapons.

Great video! Do you have a video or a guide explaining a general overview for the key vendors in D4? I didn't get too far in the beta to have a great understanding of all the mechanics (gem upgrading, gear gambling..etc)

Thanks man. I was toying with these concepts during the beta, and though barb got some complaints, I still plan to main the barb on day one due to the ability to rock six offensive affixes. Though I don't like some of the D Immortal aspects of the system, the build diversity that this will make looks cool and I think there will be lots of fun end game.

Here is one more fact that Barb will be very OP: ALL THE STATS in the 2 hander will be double for some items. For example, "z% chance to do y% more damage " on a one hander will become "2*z% chance to do 2*y% more damage" on a 2hander. It means the stat is indeed 4x but not 2x!

Prolly should have mentioned the Codex of Power aspects can be used indefinitely. They are not consumed upon imprint.

At 3:00 you mentioned rings. The fury per second per shout and shout cdr were rings only.

But you can remove IT Aspect of ECHOING FURY. Well remove it and use on the HElm thats the only oter piece of gear this type of aspect can go in. Rings and helm

Great info for planning my/our builds. I never got to transfer Legendary Powers during the Beta. Can you explain how that happens or did you do a video on that?

YOu just go to the ocultist and break the item to get the power. Then you put in any item you want. Codex powers you can use indefinetly, item powers only once.

You could still imprint resource on helm I never got one to drop but when I broke down the aspect I could put it on helm ring or amulet. So don’t think it changed.

The legendary power for CL you are thinking about is Recharging Aspect. The effect is every time CL bounces of you gain 4 mana.
