@@marc1981tremblay I generally agree in that it's bad to quickly judge why someone would give up a dig. But it was mentioned that specific dog the owners dropped him off and then requested a new dog adoption form. Like a trade in. That's sketchy.

@@marc1981tremblay Our cat we adopted at 8 was put up for adoption because his owner passed away. Presumably no one in the family wanted him, which is a very different situation. The fact the previous owners asked for an adoption form tells me they firmly fall into the scumbag territory.

My dog, Sammy, was taken from a Family we were considering friends until we found out how they treated her: They got her for the pure sake of having a cute puppy. Once she reached age 5, they only took her out by attaching a leash to the outside railing of their homes staircase. Once she had done her business, she was put inside and attached to the inner staircase to not bother anyone. After we found that out, we called veterinaries and got asked if we wanted her. Of course we did! She was a lovely dog, but so starved for attention. The first time we took her out on a big field, she was actually scared of it. Needless to say, we cut ties to that family. We didn’t lose anything but gained one adorable floofball of Golden Retriever-Labrador mix. So my empathy for people that give away their dog for the sake of it being “old” is near 0. You wouldn’t want to be put in into a retirement home just because you’re old would you? I really hope all the dogs we saw in this video get a new forever home, they deserve it!

This is not to excuse dumping an elderly dog, but some people much rather be in a nursing home, some of them absolutely hate their family, while others love their family so much that they don’t want to be a burden on their family. Some people need to be in a nursing home due to deteriorating mental capacity and the family don’t have the means to properly take care of them. That being said, you don’t adopt a new grandma or grandpa, or parent when you put your Loved One away, so you shouldn’t do the same with the family dog. The dog already sees you as family.

You are a very kind person. Thank you for rescuing a beautiful animal and for taking a stance with that horrible family! I absolutely HATE people who get a dog just because it's cute, then proceed to neglect it. Do your research, and understand that having an animal is a lifelong commitment!! They are a family member, not a piece of furniture to leave in the corner of the room, or to dispose of when you're done with them : (

A few years ago as we brought our dog to the shelter cause we went on a holiday vacation my mom fell in love with an elderly white fluffly but blind dog. His previous owner literally "dumped" him at the shelter cause they were not happy that he turned blind at around 10 years old. They also were not saying that he had medical issues wich later on caused a problem. My mom said "if we come back from the trip to get our dog back and he is still here we have to adopt him!" . In the second as we came back my mom was allready happy and exited "Is the big white fluffly elderly blind dog still here?" a staff said "Ah yes but..." and my mom was like "Oh great, I can't wait to see him!" than the vet came out from behind: "I heard you wanted to meet the big white fluffly elderly blind dog?" My mom knew that the vet dosn't mean anything good: "Oh can I?" she asked but the vet was like: "He got seriously sick in the past 2 weeks and I noticed he had an untreated illness wich maybe caused him pain for a few months allready. We decided it would be the best for him to take him down." my mom really became very sad :(

Yes, a beautiful dog. I am horrified that so many of these dogs are breeds that are expensive to buy. I wonder if dodgy breeders there dump unwanted young dogs on the streets? I know in America the laws regarding animal protection and ownership are very lax, especially regarding wild animals. It's crazy. I guess a country that doesn't value the health of all it's citizens is not going to be great at protecting animals. And all these wonderful animal lovers there, who rescue and shelter animals, are left to struggle to pick up the pieces that the States won't legislate for. I watch a lot of rescue videos from America and so many people are so kind and give up a lot of time and money to helping. But it is often a drop in the ocean if you don't have strong laws. This shouldn't be left to individuals entirely. Breeders should be strongly licenced and other pet dogs should be sterilised. There are millions of unwanted dogs on the streets of many European countries too, and again, the laws are not strong enough in many countries. It's getting better in Europe, but it's too slow a process.

In Europe we have whole rescue organizations only dedicated to save Galgos and Podenkos in Spain and to find new homes for them in other European countries. @@alwayshangrygirl463 you don’t know what this person’s situation was and what they were going through at the time. For some people rehoming is the only and best option. For example, there was a 9 year old doggie in my local shelter who was surrendered because the owner had a baby and the doggie was very antagonist towards it and it became very unsafe. Also, I completely disagree, you can’t own a dog if you’re very tight on money. What if the dog gets sick or injured? Vet bills are very expensive and even things like grooming and decent quality dog food can take a toll on any one. It would be incredibly unfair for a sick dog to not get proper medication or surgery bc the owner couldn’t afford it, and in that case I think rehoming is a good option. It’s easy to judge someone who had to rehome their dog, but most of the time it was really for the best. I would take rehoming over neglecting an animal but keeping it any day.

Each time I went, I started to notice more and more stray dogs who lived in horrible conditions yet were still able to trust and let anyone pet them. My love for animals grew as I got my first dog, Coco. He was not wanted by his previous owners because he wasn’t able to breed or follow directions. They gave him out for free and were even willing to put him down themselves if no one wanted him. My family was in a bad place and we had lots of issues but I always tell my mom that Coco helped us go through it all. We are doing so much better now and I’d like to think that he knows how much we love him every day. Dogs and other animals should be treasured and treated as best as humanly possible. I've found many of them get utterly disillusioned with humanity, cause they truly get to see the worst of people, either just by seeing what conditions and treatment some rescues were subjected to before getting to their shelter or by actually having to interact with shameless people who'll 'dump' one dog and then actually have the gall to ask if they can get a different one from the same shelter. Unbelievable. But yeah, I've found people working in animal rescue almost all have a rather reserved, cautious and suspicious attitude towards people, and for a very good reason. And still they keep doing what they do all the more determinedly. Amazing people.

My heart hurts so much, since I was a kid I've had a soft spot for "mutts", strays, and any dog that didn't have a home. If I had the means to do so, I'd come down and spend as much time I could with all these sweet pups ( I call all dogs pups as an affectionate term) and would take one home but only if they were good with cats as I have a rescue cat who tends to be pretty playful. I hope these beautiful and handsome pups find their forever homes ❤

I would absolutely adopt the old german sheppard Dankan if I could, sadly I live on the wrong side of the planet for that.. poor boy doesn't deserve to live in shelter after shelter! I really hope a good owner comes along sooner rather than later to adopt such a wonderful companion ♥

I think Shank is the cutest! My cousins Rottweiler recently passed away and he looks like him so he tugged on my heartstrings. ❤

the amount of people that actually surrender their animals because they're "too old" or "too difficult" either with health related things or temperament issues breaks my heart. They look up to you and forge such a strong loving bond with you and the fact some people don't care and toss them away like nothing breaks my heart, my ten year old border collie, aussie mix is laying right beside me and I would never dream of giving her up. she has such a sweet personality and both her and my six year old border collie, along with the german shepherd mastif mix at my dads are everything to me. sure theyre not human but theyre just as much my family as an uncle or a sister.

Dougie is my favorite by far. To know he loved his family for so long only to be left heartbroken by their abandonment is devastating. I hope someone comes along and realizes what a gem he is and gives him the best possible home for the remainder of his life.

The salukis were my favorite. Any kind of breed like that, greyhound and borzois, have a special place in my heart. I hope these dogs find their forever homes!

I am the animal parent of three cats - two nine years old, and one sixteen years old. I cannot understand how someone could have an animal as part of their family for well over a decade, and not get so bonded to them that the thought of them not being there is like a knife in the heart. Whoever it was that dropped off Dougie should never have pets OR children. EVER.
