It's sad that mwave is so limited. The wall limitation is understandable but a deal breaker for me. The purpose of the handheld for me would be to play games in another room, mainly my basement, so doesn't meet my use cases. But this is really neat to see that other technologies are being explored for the handheld market.

While obviously a bad idea for cost reasons, I wonder if it would work to use HDMI over Ethernet and a splitter to have such a dongle in every room of a house?
@andremalerba5281
@andremalerba5281 Жыл бұрын
@@aetherspoon idk if it's a great idea LOL The setup I have here is just my PC connected directly to the Ethernet cable and Wifi 5Ghz covering my house and a few AndroidTVs devices plugged on some TVs, when I want to play I just carry my Xbox360 USB dongle and controlllers to that TV and that's it. Or I just stream from my PC to meu phone or tablet and pair it with a Bluetooth controller. It works great for in home streaming and if you don't plan on playing outside your house and already have a good enough PC, there's no need to bank for a Steamdeck either. The same thing KZfaqrs are saying about playing their games way more now with a Steamdeck because they can lay in bed and play are applicable to my setup of streaming to my tablet LOL I just reach to my bedside to grab the tablet and controller, turn the PC on (I have to walk up for that 'cause I am haven't setup wake on lan), play some games and when I'm done, Steam BPM have an option that just turn off your PC so I don't even have to get up twice LOL

if you can bring the hdmi cable down to your basement that would work, but the cost would be impractical for a hdmi cable that long, not to mention longer cables are weaker in terms of transfer signal

It's cool, but at $500 MSRP or even $280 for the early bird, this is a hard pass for me. You can get so many other handhelds for that price and you'll be able to stream your PC to them via streaming apps. The advantage of streaming apps is that they also work around your house whereas this really needs line of sight, a.k.a. you have to be in the same room. This should have been $200 top IMHO.

You don't need to install a third party app to map the mouse to a controller, you can use Steam. It has a dedicated desktop profile for your gamepad which you can customize, as well as a chord profile that's only active when you hold the modifier key (home button by default). Just map the mouse to a stick in one of those profiles, and click to a shoulder button.

The extender idea is a good one, if you could get one long enough, along with a long USB extender, you could in theory have your PC in your office but the dongle out in the main living room area to game on your handheld while you're chilling in the living room. I do agree it's niche though, and part of the appeal to handhelds are that you can take them anywhere so it doesn't solve that issue. Having said that it looks like a lot of fun.

functionality seems really cool. but found out this is a kickstarter pledge (that comes with the usual risks of kickstarter) and the campaign price costs more than the switch itself. that means it will cost even more if it hits retail. while it is a put-together package, it makes me wonder if something like this already exists for the nintendo switch… possibly saving you from buying the whole display part all over again. plus, there are rumor talks of a new version of the switch possibly coming out, coinciding around the time of the next zelda adventure… around may of next year.

My 20 cents without further research: 1. What we've got here is essentially a low latency wireless screen streaming technology. And that should ring a bell for the AR/VR enthusiasts. A neckband-shaped receiver pumping out display-port signal over type-c will be an interesting product to be used with all sorts of light-weight glasses such as the nReal Air. But some more work is required to process/send the 6DoF signals over the mm-Waves. 2. There needs to be some sort of pairing/security between the transmitter and receiving screen, otherwise nearby people with appropriate equipment can see what you see.

I don't understand why companies don't grasp the fact that majority of people don't like game streaming i.e. Logitech, Google, Sony, etc. It's a gimmick. It's like I see one of these device and I think "cool!", then hear "game streaming" then roll my eyes and walk away. Game streaming will always be inferior to playing it natively, the technology just isn't there yet, even with mm-wave. Even the high end streaming devices still have major streaming issues (lag, video glitches, audio cackles, freezes, crashes) even with 5G WiFi. For the price of this you could get a Steam Deck and play those same games natively.

“Interesting”. Oh. Like asking your best friend “Is she hot?” and friend responds “She’s very interesting”.

What's the point of a mobile device that you can only play while pointing it directly at your PC?

Test a Samsung phone with Dex!!! I have a cheap 8" Onn. tablet with a cheap USB HDMI capture card and it works with Dex, but there is enough lag that you can really only play RPG and slower paced games without it being super noticeable. With this Peakdo thing, you'd be able to do it wirelessly without lag. Currently also have a 13" Huion drawing tablet that I use as a portable display, but it needs USB C to HDMI AND a separate power cable / brick since it doesn't have its own battery.

Fun fact there's actually a fortnite skin inspired by goat simulator and fittingly enough it's called a goat a tad creepy as hell but for fans of goat simulator it's a must have

This is something I have been wanting for a long time, however, now that really good X86 devices with fast WiFi are available it makes for a very hard purchase decision!

What are the benefits of this over Streaming over good wifi? I mean, it's still "streaming". I already get good performance with AMD Link over wifi and my router is old and trash. Can you do an in-depth lag test, as well as close up comparisons between wifi and mm-Wave? If there is a noticeable difference on such a small screen, I'm interested in the tech. Maybe not this specific piece of hardware though. A SteamOS dedicated PC would pair well with this.

60GHz mmWave has a much higher bandwidth than Wi-Fi. Hence the latency will be as low as 2ms, whereas Wi-Fi has a latency of 50-200ms; this technology is magnitudes faster than Wi-Fi. It just acts like an HDMI cable, but it is wireless.

5ghz wifi is still pretty impressive. The network latency while streaming on parsec shows 3ms with 1-2ms of encoding+decoding. Overall 5-6ms of latency is pretty darn good for any offline game.

Love the idea! But the inability to work through walls is a dealbreaker for most, I’d imagine.

@@OHCAM5 i mean it's like having different wifi nests in rooms...but yeah the purpose of it really is for someone that likes gaming on a small screen exclusively at home on the couch or bed, works like the wii u rather than a switch that is meant to be taken anywhere u want

@@melxb Yeah but needing an HDMI extension cable or moving stuff around kind of makes it a bit tedious. Specially when the attached controllers won't work with everything

@@OHCAM5 yeah i hear ya, definitely not for everyone, those who will buy this will be the one's that really just play and have all their stuff in one personal room vs a shared room where they may have to constantly leave to make interference an issue

This is really cool but the price for something that doesn't do anything without a gaming source is tough.
