Hi Sam. Really enjoy your 'light' approach which is matched by great content. You have a genuine talent for relating everyday matters in an engaging and informative way. Please keep this format. Your backdrops add real style to your presentation by contrasting so much with the environments you discuss. Of course Stephen is the 'star' and clearly in charge. What a fine dog !!

Hi mate im thinking about applying for the prison service as a officer. I fancy a career change as im a refrigeration engineer by trade but just had enough of it after 20 years. Who or how did you apply and did you go private or public sector? I know the job has its challenges as sam has covered many times, but that is something that i need. If you could throw me a few pointers and ideas that would be greatly appreciated🙂👍🏻

Morning Sam...Stephen. Lovely day for a stroll and a chat. Funny how some people can behave as they do yet continue to take a stance against things like bullying....the irony of such thinking never occurring to them I suppose. Glad to learn you were only intimidated and not hurt by the guy. As for Sykes...it was good to hear he got a clithering. Everything I've seen of that guy on KZfaq has been an advert for the return of flogging. Anyway...thanks for the conversation and the insight Sam. Hope the weekend is going well for you and the family. All the best!

Really like ur vids , very informative. I did a few years late 80s early 90s not my best years , I’m well past all that now. But Iv got some memories good / bad and very bad. Risley was a place of multiple suicides slashings stabbings , for a quarter of burn , can u believe that !! Amazing how such trivial issues can and did result in dire consequences, on the good side , I worked in risley kitchen and we wer opened up from around 6 till 8 , and shower n clean clothes ever night , when we wer going back to wing , we wer padded down on way out , but we all used to take left over steaks , we would wrap them in tin foil then in bread bags , get back to the pad , put them a towel and in between the pipes while we had a shower , get a big jug of tea out the urn and bang up , joint , steaks n tea ,, I tried at the beginning of my remand and conviction to fuck about fight all the time and be an absolute dick head , I was spoken to by a screw who I won’t name , he was ex ruc and was from Northern Ireland, I was ex army and went off the rails because of my brother being killed , we spoke at length and he turned my life around, he was such a decent guy , he made me work for what was on offer , which I did , I owe a debt of gratitude to that officer and you remind me of him in a small way , you may even know him ,,,

My dad was also a scouser - Arnie Clarke (RIP). Growing up I used to get told all the stories which made both me and brother stay out of any bother. During our time in the military both me and our kid got calls from my mum at home saying that our dad was was on the roof at Strangeways 1991. He did time with Sykes and had a run in with him during one of his stretches. He didn’t like him and said he was a bully but a hard bastard but had a liking for younger lads which my dad hated and stood against. Never heard my dad say a bad word against many people (Even screws) but Sykes was one of them.

Hi John, my brother did a few stretches in Hull, Armley and a couple of max prisons. He was in with Bronson who, he said was OK and strong as f##k. He knew of Sykes from being in Hull(after hearing about him beating a fitness instructor or screw with a dumbbell) One related story he told me was of Sykes being transferred yet again to Hull or another local nick. A guy suggested to the screws that he should share his cell with him. The screws obliged knowing full well that this could be an interesting encounter. The guy was shorter and stockier than Sykes but, according to my brother gave him quite a bit of a twatting. Even then all those years ago my bro said Sykes was into raping young lads

@@unclebungle7870 Yeah I can imagine mate. Would of paid to be a fly on the wall in that cell. I tried to be as respectful as possible with my comment as to not cause any disrespect to anyone. Just that there is far too many 1st hand accounts of him being like that and especially hearing direct off my old fella. Turns your stomach. Sykes ain’t for me nor will I give his film a watch as there are probably countless victims. I dunno man, Whether that thing is more tolerated inside then maybe Yammy and anyone else who been rinsed by the system could further elaborate. Horrible thought though. Looses my respect though on that one for what it’s worth. Best of luck to you Bungle 👌

Everybody moved away & I told my mate to walk away but he ignored me. So, just Sykes & my mate left & Sykes walks up to him & started shadow boxing at my mate 🙈🥊 My mate had no idea who Sykes was, so started boxing BACK at Sykes FFS!! I just said to one of the Doormen: "My mate's gonna end up in Pinderfields (Hospital), so I had to walk towards them, and drag my mate away without getting battered. This is where correctional facilities go tremendously wrong and have consistently for a long long time. If you read historical writing about Alcatraz, short (ish) sentences with the harshest conditions, designed to completely break the soul and mentality of the prisoner, resulted in the criminal never returning to prison. Not one free man ever returned to prison after a stint in Alcatraz. Some say inhumane, many say a needed evil for society to progress.

Had a run in with sykes myself in the early 80's in a pub called the whip in leeds over a game of darts... he decided he wanted to play and said if he wins I buy him 2 pints if he loses I buy him 1... .....I said sure I'll just go for a piss first.... and left out of the fire exit door....

First time I ever got sent down I was warned about Paul Sykes by a older prisoner in the cells under the courts, I was young blonde hair, is exact words were "he likes blondes", Paul was a con but he was a cleaner apparently on YP wing in Armley. Luckily I didn't go to Armley that time round, they sent me to Medomsley DC instead.😅

It was a tough regime, but it was better than getting bummed, lol. Joking aside, Medomsley was a real hellhole thank god you could only get 4 months in there, borstal/YC wasn't that much better. Made Con jails too easy really, going through the system that is. Love your channel.

@@stan-ut5gj wow, good luck. You was beaten from the minute you stepped onto that red line in reception to the minute you got out. Can you remember an officer called german, he was nasty to the inmates, I was fit as a fiddle by the time I got out. Running weights, standing weights, running benches, standing benches, murder ball, slaps. lol parade 4 times a day, digging party. 10mile run around the fence, dead man hill. If you couldn't physically do what was asked of you, you were nicked for refusing an order, and the food, when I was there one Christmas everybody got food poisoning or dysentery, cant remember wich. Anyway, good luck with your claim mate.
