In the late 1990s, astronomers studied 42 supernovae. These are white dwarf stars that siphon gas from a companion star. The increase in mass causes a runaway nuclear reaction that ultimately leads to a very bright explosion. A supernova.
After studying these supernovae, they discovered something that would change how we understand the Universe.

Imagine someone who is immortal lives to see the death of everyone else on Earth & even the point where life is no longer possible yet they still can't die. That would be terrifying on multiple levels, especially since they would be able to see the death of the universe itself, but wouldn't happen for billions of years.

@@littledudefromacrossthestr5755 The atoms that compose you, the quarks that compose your atoms, have been present since the Big Bang. Some of them were formed in the form of stars, which exploded, and these atoms were transferred to you through entropy. Star is order. Death of is disorder (the formation of a star, the union of molecules, is severed in the explosion). However, that's not the end of the road for these atoms. As you know "nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed". Well, these atoms made their way to your body through billions of years of cycles of order and chaos. You're just one of the many forms these atoms will take. You will die. And your body will be consumed by insects, who will be consumed by animals, who will die and decompose, to become "fertilizer" for growing plants, which will be eaten by animals, who will be eaten. Etc., etc. You get the picture. You're part of a life and death cycle that has been going on since the beginning of the Universe. This is not the end.

I can only hope that our consciousness is some meta-physical thing that is just controlling and seeing through a body but is not confined to the physical universe in which it interacts with. Kind of like playing an online video game. Your consciousness is the player and it controls the character that other see and interact with in game. Even if this idea is farfetched, it is at tue very least comforting to me.

In non-existence you experience no suffering which is good and you also don't experience no pleasure which is not bad because there's no one being deprived of it. Basically you can't crush an ant that doesn't exist. However in existence you get to experience both suffering and pleasure. By that it's clear that non-existence is objectively better than existence and whoever thinks otherwise is delusional fool.

I suppose that as a human being. Before you are born there could be some kind of force which decides that you will exist for some reason. And after you're born and have comed into existence. You are not only what your physical body is. But there's more than that. There has to be more than your own physical body in this existence. Something like a soul. And if energy can't be created but only transformed. Then pretty much from the moment this Universe came into existence in some way. It has been transforming to the point were you came into existence. And that is mindblowing when i think about it. It also makes me think that there's more to things than just what science explains. There has to be.

Naah, I say it's 0% likely. The idea that something suddenly appears from eternal nothingness and a moment later vanishes back into nothingness for eternity -- is unnatural. Because everything in nature lies on a continuous infinite chain of causality. Cyclicity, branching and phase transitions are a universal physical patterns of behavior on all levels of existence, due to which universes will exist forever. Because the emptiness from which everything grows, has infinite immanent energy. It's hard to wrap your head around this, so just deal with it 😎
