I would laugh when for example the Asuka stones or the head carvings where like just regular people that are into art... And just carved them for themselves.... Like thousands of years from now, people (or aliens) will find let's say a golden toilet or a Gandalf carving out of stone and be wondering to themselves, why we did this and also have some wild theories.

I've been very interested in Gobleke Tepe for years, and as they say, the simplest solution is often the correct one. In this case, the "simplest solution" is indeed simple enough. It was built by an as of yet unknown civilization that was facing a catastrophy of some kind, and they wanted to preserve all their knowledge as best they could. That's why they built it out of stone, and why they buried it. Stone is one of the few things that can last thousands of years, and burying it helped preserve it even more. It also made sure whoever found it would be able to read it. Think about it. You could put a lot of information on a computer disc or some sort, or a USB stick, and it might last forever. But how do you know whoever found it will be able to read it? They could write down their history, but how would they know we would be able to translate their language? Pictures carved in stone lasts forever, and are universal. It doesn't matter where you live in the entire world. If you see a picture of a horse, you know it's a horse. Maybe you have never seen a horse in real life, or even know they exist. But the picture is still easy enough to understand, and when you eventually do see a horse in real life, you already know what it is. The alternative is usually "for religious purposes", but I don't buy that for a second. It's too big and complicated for that. A wooden structure would have done the trick nicely. Plus, as far as I know, there are still no known pictures of "godlike" creatures on the monument. Why would you spend years building an amazing church, then fill it with pictures of all sorts of animals - and not one of God or Jesus? (Or whatever your religion might be.) It doesn't make any sense. If it was a religious monument, their God should have been the main focus of the monument, not an afterthought - if even that.
@marksaid6587
@marksaid6587 5 жыл бұрын
Religions back then were nothing like those of today. In those times, people worshiped something or somethings that they felt were a bit more special then all the others around them. For example, in my country, Malta, there are several big ancient temples (4000 to 5500 years old) where it was discovered that the people of those eras worshiped nature around them, and especially a very corpulent woman. Women that were rotund, had childern and were noticed to be quite strong (by being able to manage their load of children and the whole houseold) were given an almost a divine standard. Plus, these ancient temples also served as calendars. They were built in a way that, at certain times of the year, a specific sunrise would indicate the start of a specific season. This way people were able to better control cultivation and know when it was best time to fish and hunt.
@sandbakk77
@sandbakk77 5 жыл бұрын
@@marksaid6587 True, different people worship different things. But the thing is, temples, churches and so on all serve a purpose. Even if they are not tied to a specific god or group of gods, they are there for a reason. People come there to worship. That's a big problem with Gobleke Tepe. It doesn't seem to serve any kind of function at all. It was a place where peopel gathered to worship something, wouldn't there have been altars, places for people to sit, and all that? But there is none of that there. It's just a bunch of enormous stone pillars. All this is speculation and theories, of course, but it just seems so out of place to me. There are no settlemeants nearby, and no obvious place where people could have stayed. Considering people back then (supposedly) lived in small, nomadic tribes, it gives us a huge problem. Why would they gather to build the monument in the first place? Where did they stay when they built it? Where did they stay when it was in use? For that matter, even if it was a calendar (and there are no signs to indicate it was), why would they even need it? A calendar like that works well if you are staying in one place, but these people travelled around a lot. If they needed a calendar of some sort, they would have made a small, more portable one. But considering they didn't even have a writing system, making a calendar seems unlikely. Based on what we think we know of them, I don't think they even had a concept of months, or even years. Again, this is all just speculation and theories. But it seems very logical to me that someone built it to preserve knowledge before they had to leave, so even if the people in the stone age used it as a religious gathering point, they used a monument that was already there.
@marksaid6587
@marksaid6587 5 жыл бұрын
@@sandbakk77, if a group of people needed to preserve any kind of knowledge they had they could only do that by means of songs and verbal sayings, or most likely in carved managable sized stones. Temples and/or buildings like those take tens of years (if not more) to construct. They definitely didn't need any concept of hours, weeks and months, but they definitely had the concept of morning, mid-day, evening, day, night, years and -most importantly- seasons... for cultivation hunting and herding reasons. Even them being nomadic, their routes were always circular. That is, they spend the colder time in a specific region and the warmer one in another specific region. Always alternating between the two (or maybe three) areas and taking advantage of what the lands, and those in beetween, had to offer for that specific time of the year. Hence, they had all the possibility to construct such a monumental building/temple at only one specific spot and returning to visit it one or more specific times of the year. When it comes to such things, archeologists discover these things only by chance when sometimes some insignificant thing is unearthed. At first it is thought it being insignificant but on closer investigation it turns out to be one of the most important discoveries of that spcific archeological site. In Malta, at first it was thought that these temples were just a plie of stone put on top, and side by side, to each other for nothing. One day, though, a small stone in one specific temple and another stone's small carvings in another it was discovered that these were indeed temples. Built to serve worship places, as specific calendars, and were in the heart of small villages/communities just like today's churches/temples being in the heart of town and cities. So, if the Göbeklitepe was built to preserve something it would have only been worth building as a tomb, to preserve certain highly esteemed and important people. Otherwise it was only worth the hassle for it to have a communial service and community gathering. That is only my humble opinion. 😊

Lancelot Arthur Marasigan actually anthropologists and archeologists believe that the people and cultures who built structures such as these where very advanced and intelligent. The main culture we site when we think of their intellect is that of the Egyptians. The Pyramids of Giza were took time and precise calculations involving advanced geometry among other things. A vast majority of scientists do not doubt that many of the cultures that prefaced those we have today were very intellectual.

@@kingfisherclub4058 Actually the level of human intelligence right now is only slightly better than back then, but it's not a noticeable difference. The factor that determined their achievements was knowledge and experience. For example, the Egyptians built the pyramids, while the Maya made successful skull surgeries and the Chinese learned how to make paper etc. They just picked different paths and still were great civilisations. It's a shame many of them got destroyed by internal conflicts or got "colonised" by the more war-oriented and just greedy people.

Honestly the Olmec heads look alot like Pacific Islanders, which some of the Olmec people could have been descendants. They probably were visages of 'gods' or their ancestors. Rapa Nui isn't that far from South America, it's not hard to believe that those islander refugees may have gone to South and Central America where they interbred with cultures there and the Olmec people came from them. The Olmec heads then become another version of the Rapa Nui heads that artistically evolved with culture. Also on number 2, is it possible that the 'gates' were made to slow lava flow towards nearby villages? Or maybe some kind of altar/temple for the 'Volcano God'? Where they'd try to appease it?

And if scientists are correct about the Out of Africa theory, which I truly believe, it’s not far fetched to link other cultures with Africans-closely related or not.

Same here. I've actually been there and they seem to know who built them and when so they probably wouldn't be classed as unexplained. But I was curious why they'd be in this video for that reason, turns out they simply weren't in it. Ankor Wat is mind blowing from the long wall-less entrance promenade to the huge trees growing through the stone. The big heads are the most fantastic and the photos I have are my favourite photos, and I'm not a huge photographer. If you get the chance to go then I recommend it. In case anyone is wondering, the huge faces in the thumbnail are from a Cambodian sanctuary called the Bayon, which is located in the center of a walled and moated city called Angkor Thom that served as the capital of the Khmer Empire in the 12th century. Scholars believe the faces depict the Buddha, King Jayavarman VII, or both. What makes these giant faces unique is that they're actually built out of separate stone blocks rather than sculpted from a single slab of stone. No mortar was used, meaning that each piece had to be precisely cut so that they fit together like a giant jigsaw puzzle, all while forming a three dimensional human face. Pretty neat!

The answer to the stone gates is that you are talking about the past. That back when these walls were built this volcano was active but today those regions are inhospitable for human life, but that does not mean that the region was inhospitable at the time that they were constructed. For example, the great Sphinx in Egypt has clear evidence of major water erosion on it. There is not enough rain in Egypt today to even come close to that amount of erosion, but obviously, at one point in time, there was.

To add even more mystery, Gobekli Tepe is only 10% excavated and could date even earlier to 12,000 years. Unfortunately, the government of Turkey has ceased excavation of the site indefinitely
