Any pool party not named Encore Beach Club is overrated. I go to Vegas to go through the casinos, walk the strip, eat, hangout by the pool and go out to the clubs. Hoping the night life will return to normal by end of the summer if not sooner. 🤞. Love your videos, great idea about utilizing limo service to bar hop. Definitely doing that when things get back to normal.

Me personally the pools are overrated. Only because I go to Vegas for the nightlife, fine dining, and of course gambling. Last time I was at a Vegas pool was when I was a kid traveling with my parents.

I've been going to Vegas over 28 years and stayed at many hotels, including the MGM Grand. I will agree with Ruby. Back in the 80's and 90's the MGM Grand was really nice and inviting. Now it's aging in the wrong way and if anyone has ever used self parking you know exactly what I'm saying. When you walk to get into the casino from the parking garage the whole place looks and smells like an old subway.

I have lived in Vegas for 26 years. I love living here and I've been working at the same strip property for 21 years. My first visit was in 2006 for my 21st bday. It was free shot with every drink because it was my bday. Everything was clean warming inviting. My favorite place was o’sheas. Went back in 2014 and it was getting dicey. Things were starting to get pricey food was expensive and avg. They built the linq and o sheas became a nice place lol. went in 2021 and the homeless are everywhere. Cleaning themselves in the fountains taken drinks from around the casinos. Food was outrageously bad everywhere. Drinks are out of control expensive. The facade is beautiful but when you look there’s cracks in the foundation. Still I’m going back in 2022 I love it lol.

I remember passing the Las Vegas Sign coming into town, in the early 1980's. There was nothing around it, no tourists taking selfies. It was just there. I thought " How cool is that!" @@josephberrie9550 My family loved vacationing in Vegas in the 80s. On the casino floor we had to sit to the side on the stairs like latchkey kids lol Being Gen X it was just part of life lol Sometimes we were on the strip, oftentimes off strip in a motel. The adults would hire a babysitter from whatever book advertised them (probably the same book with all the more fun services lol) and my cousins & I would stay in the motel with whichever random babysitter showed up. My Mom loved it so much we moved to Vegas in '89. I hated it, not a place for children to grow up imo. I was in fifth grade. We moved back to our home state, the Beautiful Colorado. I do still think about the French Toast at the Stardust Diner, though!

Totally with you on the MGM. First time I was in Vegas when I turned 21 we stayed at the MGM and it was AMAZING. I remember getting a massage while playing poker in what felt like the middle of the casino floor while watching sports at the sportsbook and raking in money from tourists that didn't know how to play hold 'em yet. Good times. Now: MGM is boring. Such a big place and it's just so... BORING. The pool area is still pretty top notch and the food court is one of the better ones. But otherwise, if I'm walking through either way, I'll go to the other side of the street and go through NYNY instead.

New subscriber! Ok, I have stayed at the MGM and enjoyed it a lot over two reasons: the monorail has a stop there and it made it so easy for us to go up and down the strip 2. NYNY was across the street. The room was pretty large too for a freebie. But you are right. It does lack something although it was an enjoyable hotel to sleep in. We didn’t like gambling there.

For me, the MGM Grand was a good home base for the (low-ish) price I was able to get for it. I preferred it over Luxor in large part due to location, and it's much better connected to the rest of the strip than most of the other cheaper MGM options. Love the monorail stop in-house, just as close as most of the others to the DEUCE bus, and on the CX express bus line that runs hourly to downtown and the airport. I wouldn't pay a huge premium for it, but when the price is right I'll go for it.

Best affordable strip hotel/casino is definitely the linq. Hands down. Incredibly inexpensive, extremely center strip. 5 minute walk in any direction gets you to every major casino. Caesars, Bellagio, flamingo, etc we had a suite during off season and it was like $50/night- pre Covid too. The cocktail waitresses in their casino are also the most prompt and lovely ones I’ve ever had during my stays. I’ve only stayed there once, because as I get older I prefer a fancier hotel. If budget was on my mind, I’d definitely choose them again. The only thing is the rooms can be very far away, but overall highly recommend. I still stop by to gamble when I’m in town- and to get quick and friendly cheap drinks 😜 (I always tip at least $5 to my cocktail waitresses when there are free drinks, still way cheaper than ordering at any bar in Vegas, and I have, Um, certain tastes lol)

A long hike to anywhere else is OK if the property itself has something to offer; for example, Bellagio or the Venetian. But MGM feels like one big transit station, with things going off in all directions and people coming at you from all angles. There's no remaining theme to anything there, either; it's just miles and miles of miles and miles. For the last few years, I've gone there only for the southern terminus of the monorail, walking through instead of to.

Obviously there's more traffic but people start puking on the bus, and obviously everytime someone pukes it has to be taken out of service. That said through the daylight hours transit is awesome. If you're going to freemont take the express tho.

We just got back from a week in Vegas for the first time, and had a BLAST! I agree with everything you said about the Vegas sign, however, I think if you plan it out right and are okay walking some, hitting the sign at dusk, you can get daylight and night time photos. After we walked to subway to eat then to the Luxor to watch Blue Man Group. Having it planned out like that kinda made it worth it. Plus we met some neat people in line at the sign.

You are so right about the truly bad service at the Chandelier Bar. Attitude reflects leadership. When you are paying $30+ for a cocktail and have that weird tax added in plus are expected to add a gratuity, you should get decent service at the very least. Your overrated list was very good. I would add the gondola ride at the Venetian.

I agree with you on MGM Grand. I miss the old Wizard of Oz theming. With that said, I was a CHILD when that theming was around. I think the crowd is mixed because 1) It's the largest hotel on the strip (maybe all of LV) as far as room availability and 2) the pool is amazing and families love to bring their kids there to experience it. Going to the pool is one of the only things to do for kids in Las Vegas.

The thing about the Las Vegas sign is that it has history. It's an island of continuity in a city that is every changing. And it's just a really cool mid-century design!

Continuity? The sign itself has not changed, but the circus they have in the parking lot and approach to the sign changed the area around it. Used to be that you could walk up and get your picture (maybe the first or second visit), but now they have photographers, hawkers, food trucks all waiting to get a piece of your wallet. Definitely overrated after your first visit... Much like Downtown...

I did the sign when I was in Vegas by going early in the morning ( yay for jet lag from the UK meaning I was up by 7 most days) and using the deuce bus on a day where we were getting a day ticket to go to the outlets and downtown anyway and I’d say that was a pretty good way to do it; the bus stops are convenient, there were only about 5 other people there - I think we were there about 8:30am - and while there are lots of other cool photo spots this one is a classic.

Being a local for 20 years and working in six different casino's.... Ruby you are spot on! All of Ramsey places are over hyped and not worth the money. Now if this is your first Vegas trip, by all means please see as much as possible. However is you have been here before, Ruby's list is perfect. Sometime the hole in the wall places are the best and sometimes it's worth it to spend $35 for a Jack & coke. Normally when someone has a corporate expense account ;)

You are spot on about the MGM. Musty, damp, and dark! It feels like they threw up the concrete walls and didn't even pain them. The best things there are Ka and David Copperfield, both of which I highly recommend if they are open when you get there. But even those two theatres had that musty bare wall feeling to them. I wonder if there is some black mold growing somewhere. The areas around the food court are not bad, but you have to walk thru all the other to get to them. Luxor casino is getting to have the same feel to it too.

We had a great experience at HK. We love the show and went because of that. Our server was great and our meal came pretty quickly. It was a little pricey but we don't regret going. I went back and looked at my comment 4 months ago when I first saw this video, and I think I was very unfair. After re-watching it, I came away with a very different reaction. I loved your honest opinions and have to say I can't disagree with any of them. I laughed out loud on the last one - the LV sign. "It's in the middle of a highway!" Lol, so true Ruby! The walk is clearly a waste of valuable time, with so many other iconic things to take a picture in front of instead, as you eloquently said. So, please forgive me, Ruby! You do a fantastic job on all your videos, and your insights are always spot on!

Absolutely agree on the MGM. Went there quite a few times during the large Golden lion days... it's lost a lot of its character - and you're RIGHT about the smell! That's an important sensory thing for me as well - there's no need to be anywhere that doesn't smell clean and fresh. And there's plenty better hotels and casinos that have better ventilation and don't smell like damn cigarettes from the 1990's.

I agree with you 100% with every point on your list. I used to go to the MGM when it had the OZ theme and was pretty turned off by the changes. They clearly just wanted to fill up the (HUGE) space with cheesy shops and bars and the like to maximize income. However, it isn't a bad place to stay because the pool is great. Get a cabana. The cabana waitresses are awesome. But the casino? No thanks.

I read the same thing about the MGM Grand years ago . I took my wife to see to Ka in 2005 and stopped at a bar before for a couple of Pina Coladas and it seemed like a hotel that would be popular with sports gamblers. As for the best smell the Mirage's lobby hasn't escaped me since.

Ruby I agree mostly with your list. I just recently found your channel and really enjoy watching your videos. As a former loving tourist turned local is interesting to see your point of view. The Chandelier Bar very cool to take a picture at but otherwise continue on with your day. I feel Container Park is one of those things in you are downtown take a few min to walk around and check out the shops but not so much the food, plus the entertainment at the front is fun. Agree with MGM it need to find its Identity again. I agree Hells Kitchen was underwhelming for me as well. My Beef Wellington was amazing and first time I ever had that dish, but I feel people are hoping for something like the TV show and that is not going to happen now that the show has moved on. The sign I feel is cool if you have a local friend to take you to see it and drive by it. If the line is short stop for a quick picture is fun, also now day during the day a couple dessert vendues step up so you can grab a snack as you wait. That seems nice every time I end up having to drive by as I head somewhere in that area. Also there is stuff past it (town square, the outlet mall and so on)but you are correct with out transportation it is by its self.

Great list!! MGM is dated and quality less than similiar MGM properties like Park and Mirage. However, it is very large and a cash cow for MGM. It always has a mixed crowd with a sub group of meatheads from the UFC promos. I use to spend time there as the poker room was so easy. It can be interesting on fight nights for people watching. I haven't been back in years, too far on the strip and no reason for me to visit. I am not a fan of that part of the strip. Hells Kitchen is the busiest of the 5 Ramsey restaurants and hasn't been very consistent for quality. It has many negative reviews online. I think Cosmo is very pretty to look at but not very fun. Why don't you try the cocktail collective at Palazzo and Venetian? I know you visited one of the bars but what about Dorsey and Ravina? You should enjoy these as you like the bar at the Wynn :). My tastes are different than most so I don't want to say what is overrated but I very much prefer the Venetian/Palazzo and Wynn to Bellagio and Aria for everything.

My brother (who is a massive GR fan) and I first went to Hell's Kitchen in 2018, and it was incredible. However, my brother went last year and said it seemed less high-end now, not unlike a cafeteria, as you said.
