@@proxythefool The very short answer is "read the manga" because the anime and the OVA is a bit... unusual. The original anime series and its followups (G and Go) are basically "in-name-only" Saturday morning cartoon versions of the manga; they have historic importance but are generally unrelated to the rest of the franchise. (The Go anime is especially this, but it's actually pretty interesting due to sharing nothing in common but the name. The mech designs are especially interesting, as they were heavily reused for Neo Getter Robo in Shin vs Neo.) In terms of the manga, the release order is Getter Robo, Getter Robo G, Getter Robo Go, Shin Getter Robo, Getter Robo Ankh. (It's also called "Ah" or "Arc" or all kinds of stuff.) Shin Getter Robo was written *after* Go but takes place *between* G and Go, so you can read it either before or after Go as you like it; Ankh was never finished, due to the magazine's cancellation and Ishikawa's death before he could resume publication. For the post-2000s OVAs: "New Getter Robo" (sometimes called Shin Getter Robo) is basically a compressed adaptation of the original manga and the Shin Getter Robo manga (portions of it are taken shot-for-shot); I recommend this as a starting point, but unless you know a lot about Japanese history and mythology you probably won't enjoy it that much - it was my introduction, but I rewatched it recently and 10+ years of distance and much more historical knowledge meant I absolutely loved it this time, even though I didn't as a kid. "Shin Getter Robo - Sekai no Saigi no Hi" (literally "the Last Day of the Earth" but more commonly known simply as "Shin Getter Robo" or "Getter Robo Armageddon") is generally considered the best of the OVAs, and tells an original story that follows on from Getter Robo G (manga), stealing aspects of Go, Shin, and Ankh mangas to tell its story. It had a very troubled development (the original director, Imagawa, was removed after the first three episodes, and apparently took his work with him - which is unusual - so the person who stepped in had to cope pretty hard), but it manages well enough, and is by far the best-known piece of Getter media. "Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo" is a short OVA that is a sort of compressed version of the first arc of the Go manga; it theoretically takes place after the Shin Getter Robo manga but in very broad strokes. Finally, the Getter Robo Arc anime from 2021 is an adaption of the Ankh manga, with some added content and a denouement, but you might be a bit lost if you don't skim the preceding manga first, because while it tries to catch you up there's only so much it can do in 13 episodes. To return to the manga, there's also a number of spinoffs that exist in various states of readability: "Getter Robo Hien -THE EARTH SUICIDE-" is a spinoff featuring a Neo Plasma-powered Getter (similar to Shin vs Neo) and a new antagonist; Shin Getter Robo and Getter Robo Go are explicitly canon to it, and there is a bonus chapter that spoils a bunch of stuff from Ankh, so make sure you read Ankh before this one. "Apocrypha Getter Robo Darkness" is a very Go Nagai Violence Jack-inspired complete retelling; it was unfortunately cancelled after only two volumes, but has some excellent designs and a very interesting setting that doesn't get followed up on. You can read this anytime, but it will make more sense if you're already familiar with the setting. "Dino Getter Robo" is a fast-paced eight-chapter spinoff that you kind of need to watch Armageddon to understand, but its designs are fantastic and you don't need to have read much else. "Getter Robo High" is a very cursed mahjong manga with Getter Robo done by DRILL JILL, a hentaika primarily famous for their "She's a Violence Heroine!" series and their weird genderbend futa Getter Robo porn (one of their designs is actually reused which is very cursed) Finally, "Getter Robo Devolution" is an AU series that you should probably read *after* everything else, since it relates directly to concepts introduced in Getter Robo Ankh, and you definitely need to read the original manga to appreciate ending. (Check out its animations from SRW30 they're godlike though) That's basically everything, so tl;dr if you like reading, read the manga in chronological order (Getter Robo, G, Shin, Go, Ankh); if you'd rather watch anime, watch New Getter Robo and Armageddon in that order, then everything else.
