Terrible audio mixing. The background sounds are too loud compared to the narration, making it inaudible.

I was a kid living in Central CA when Loma Prieta and Northridge hit. Seeing the aftermath on the news gave me an irrational fear of being on the lower level of any bridge or under an overpass. All the earthquake drills at school, and my teacher losing most of her family, didn't really help either. My sister is the same way. I'm convinced there's an entire generation of us with the same fear. I got over the fear for the most part but my sister will avoid the lower deck of the Bay Bridge at all costs.

Doesn't seem like a place humans should reside...but we managed to find a way to populate just about everywhere, anyhow. I'll take my cold winters in the Midwest over my house ripping in half suddenly

@@bernlin2000 we very rarely have major quakes. The last one was Loma Prieta. California is a stunning state to live in. I'll take the very occasional roll of a minor earthquake if it means I get to live close to some of the most beautiful places in the world.

@@bernlin2000 I live on the Canadian prairies where we are currently dipping to -40° at night, daytime highs are in the -30s, and yet one often hears people say, "I'll take this over earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes!" We pretty much know that we are going to have snow to stick by Halloween, accumulations through the season up to 4 ft that won't be gone until April, along with weeks of these wicked temps, but it's far more predictable than the alternatives!

Today 8th October we have a 17 anniversary of the deadliest earthquake of the Pakistan's history, I am also the victim of that earthquake. We never forget that day. The buildings and our houses were shaking badly. Everywhere sounds of screaming and sirens, that day we think it's a doomsday coming. May ALLAH protect all of mankind from natural disasters.

Loma Prieta earthquake registered as a 7.1. The aftershock right after it registered at 6.9. I lived in San Jose during that earthquake and felt it. They also built the Cyprus freeway wrong. They should have wrapped the pillars with wires.

I am surprised 1999 Gölcük Earthquake from Turkey is not here. It literally destroyed two cities (some buildings on coastal areas sank into water) killed almost 19.000 people, and injured many more

I was WITHIN the Santa Cruz quake. I grabbed a 55 gal plastic drum & filled it, then drove food and water all over the marina for 3 days feeding & watering people. I moved little old ladies with all that remained of their lives in their arms out of the area. I helped. It's different.

We were always told in school that Buffalo NY was the type of city to have a rare but strong earthquake. Yes I experienced the earthquake, but most people didnt even realized we had one. It was not strong at all. Everything in my room started shaking and then stopped. I told my parents and they were so confused because no one else noticed it. I found out that it was actually a tiny earthquake that most people didnt feel or notice

what about the Alaska earthquake in 1964? that was one of the biggest quakes ever recorded (9,2 on the Richter scale) and lasted for about 4-6 minutes. the tsunami that created reached Japan, Hawaii, Philippines and other places and it killed people even in California. many people says that this quake felt even at NY city.

Chilean here. So this Loma Prieta earthquake that killed so many was a mere 6.9?! I went like, "whaaaaat?", because that's absolutely nothing for us, nothing even falls off shelves. Then I realized these buildings were obviously not anti-seismic... SMH.

So the bottom line here is... The scientist, the geologist, the seismic specialist people, everybody that's supposed to know something... Knows nothing!! They spend billions of taxpayer dollars to try and figure out what's going on, and they have no idea. And yet they keep their jobs! Like weatherman. Could you imagine if you were as wrong as all these so-called "specialist" in your everyday job? I think the answer is... you wouldn't have a job!

Almost impossible to predict an earthquake. Scientists study and learn what they can about what causes them in the hope the one day earthquakes can be predicted.

@@donnaeastwood5406 exactly! And they've been studying and learning for a very long time. And still got bubkis! That's my point.
