Satan in the most rare tegu morph in the world. He would probably not the most expencive one. But he is the only melanistic colombian/golden tegu in the world.

Beautiful Tegu! Very sad about the killing the females 😢 Side note, have you thought about using a lavalier mic? I have to turn my tv up very loud to hear you sometimes and I don’t wanna miss something! 🫶🏻 love your vids!

Thank you! I will take a look at what microphone is best. I am thinking of buying a microphone for a long time. But hard to pick one. And I use my Iphone to make videos. I also have trouble with looking at the camera. I do have a go pro. But uploading the videos on my pc takes so long and I want to do everything on my iphone.

I remember seeing his beauty in real life. So sad to hear his heartbreaking story. Luckily my Neo is the exact opposite in personality. So gentle :)

If you have some contacts at a veterinarian university that does research on reptiles, you could discuss some options of artificial fertilization (collect semen from the male and inseminate the female). Unfortunately, everything is experimental at this point, but there are some protocols out there for collecting and successfully storing sperm for B&W Tegus, for example. But you are looking at collecting the sperm and inseminating preferably at the same time. This will probably require at least sedation of the animals, so you would need experienced exotic vets. If you manage to obtain live animals, it would be a first and a very nice and interesting published paper.

I have done this with black and white tegus around 10 years a go. But the problem is you need to find sperm first. And it must be fresh sperms.

@@Qualityreptiles Yes, but you can also check viability under a microscope and select viable sperm only. I'm not very familiar with their reproductive anatomy, but maybe you can evaluate if their vas deferens is full with a good ultrasound. After that, maybe you can "milk" them to obtain the content? I'm sure you know this stuff already if you have tried it before. Haven't really studied this topic, making an analogy with humans here 😅

Could you put some type of cone on his head like vets use on dogs, cats etc to keep his mouth out of reach from being able to bite the females? Or a muzzle that a small dog would use so he can breath etc but can't actually bite the female?

Who knows. The question is will it be ethical to do. Thanks for your imput.

He is a spectacular guy but probably it's better not to breed him. You never know how much of his personality is in his genetic?! I can't imagine that his behavior is because of bad experience with other tegus. So it seems it is just what he is. Would be better his line ends with him. Cheers Stefan

Hey, I got a question for you. I'm not sure if I missed the answer in one of your videos, sorry if I did. When I want tp have more than one Tegu in the same enclosure WITHOUT the possibility to seperate them if necessary, is that a bad idea? What would be the best combination? 1.1 or 2.0 or 0.2? Surely not 2.x I assume. Is it even possible to have a Red together with a black and white?
@Qualityreptiles5 ай бұрын
In every situation where you keep more then 1 tegu you need the possibility to separate them. A female will not tolerate any tegu (male or female) near her when she is done ovulating. Every female tegu has a very big chance of ovulating in the future. Even when there is no male around. They can even lay infertile eggs without a male around. 2 males together often also does not go well. And when hormones kick in they can also start trying to mate with the other male or they can start fighting because of it. Black and white and reds see each other as the same species. They also can make hybrid babies together. This means they can be kept together as good as you can with the same species.

@@Qualityreptiles Thank you, it was not the answer I was hoping to get but the answer I was expecting. I was kind of thinking probably two males do well together when there is not any female around. Or the two different species are not interested in each other. I didn't expect it could be like in one of this prison-movie when someone has to pick up the soap 😳 Thanks for the this very detailed explanation and for saving me from an error. It is really about time for you to write a book about Tegu and monitor care. If you ever find the time to. It would be a success worldwide! No doubt about that. Cheers Stefan

Um üble beissereien zu vermeiden ist die einzelhaltung für die meisten Echsen nur von Vorteil.

That's to bad. Usually it's the other way around, with an unwilling female hurting the male.
