The most realistic eclipse timelapse I've ever taken - Spring 2022 Lunar Eclipse HDR stack

A real lunar eclipse is DARK - the red moon is super faint, and it doesn't illuminate the clouds around it the way the regular sunlit moon does. Using two cameras, a tracker, and a bit of math. I created a video that's hopefully closer to what the human eye sees than what any single auto-exposing camera would be able to manage.
There's a lot more info about the process in the full video: • Eye vs Camera: Why it'...

Sup everybody! I got some requests to just post the highest quality version of the timelapse as a standalone video (especially to combat KZfaq's compression), so here's the 4K beast itself! If you want to learn more about how this was filmed and didn't watch the first video, check this out! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bLhdnLCeyLeZkX0.html

I wouldn't have known the crazy amount of work that went into this from only seeing this short video, it gave me a whole new way to appreciate the smooth transitions despite the difference in exposure. Great job!

I had to comment because I know you put a whole bunch of work into this way more than we could ever possibly imagine. I am absolutely certain that a lot of people have no idea how much work you put into making this come out so nicely. A+ It actually came out really really nice and the music was a nice addition to it thank you for sharing it with us.

Your last video reminded me a lot about the way the new Zoom F6 works, it's an audio recorder which uses dual ADC in order to capture the biggest resolution possible. It is made so that you don't have to dial audio gain ; the dynamic range is so big that the sound will be captured without clipping or too much background noise

I've never really taken the time to look at a lunar eclipse before this last one because they're so common I always just figured I'll see the next one, but they're really underwhelming. Looks absolutely nothing like the bright cherry red long exposure and amped up contrast pictures that always accompany the media's "super blood" this, and "double cherry blossom" that type sensationalized headlines they constantly pump out. It actually looks very much like this video. Just dark with a slight hint of red from the Rayleigh scattered out / blue depleted filtered atmospheric light.
@onedollasnake
@onedollasnake 2 жыл бұрын
Kinda disagree agree on that overhyped titles that have little to do with the lunar eclipse cringe but I have seen 7 totalities 8 I guess “blood moons” one of them was a deep partial but at least in a low light pollution area they are significantly better than in a high light pollution area and rare to see the same two colours each one is usually a different colour by slight

Hmm... around 0:37, there's some weird light artifacts... like, it's as if the moon itself is in the clouds, the sun is a lot closer, and we're getting light rays off of it. But of course, there wouldn't be any clouds that high up, the sun isn't so close, etc... Was someone playing with flashlights or something? I'll go watch the explainer video, too, but noticed here so asking here. :)

As a videographer I have a question, though I might be overlooking something :D I did this a few years ago with a single camera both with bracketing and in camera HDR creation and both worked perfectly fine and got me similar results. Why did you choose to use 2 cameras?

Now all you need to do is do a collaboration with: ElectroBOOM(for sure!), Cody’slab, Steve Mould, The Action Lab, The Backyard Scientist, Styropyro(yes please!), Allen Pan, William Osman, Veritasium, Stuff Made Here, Smarter Everyday(I can’t wait!), Nilered/blue, or even I Did A Thing(HowYouGoing!) to become a full fledged ScienceTuber. (P.S. I left out Mark Rober and Vsauce because they have become too mainstream and they will only do a video with you if you are VERY famous or completely unknown and Alpha (IMO!) is just south of middle. I also debated putting destin on this list because he too is very mainstream but he is also hidden away in our own little corner… also for those of you who think SciShow should be on this list don’t understand what a ScienceTuber is… they do experiments while SciShow just reports stuff… they are basically basically just another media outlet).
