I have a nice stat for you, not only was Gordie Howe able to play with his son, it's the only father-son duo to connect on a goal. I think it was Gordie assisting and Mark scored. And that's absolutely crazy. To have a good chance, you have to have a son, in the late teens/early 20s, and he has to make it to the NHL, and you have to be on the same team, and Gordie did it with being a father at 27, which is insane. EDIT: I just saw it, it was Gordie's last playoff goal, and Mark assisted him.

On that on top of all those massive and crazy stats, I remember some real twisted irony about Mario Lemieux NOT being paid by the Penguins. Brett Hull - 741 goals Playing for a very eventful 20 years in the NHL, Hull was as gifted a scorer as they come. While many derided him for his lack of defense, Hull’s astonishing shooting accuracy and explosive speed, especially with the slapshot, made him a tough matchup during any game. Finishing with 741 goals and two Stanley Cups (1999 with Dallas and 2002 with Detroit), Hull’s achievement of scoring 86 goals in the 1990-91 season is bested by only one man, Wayne Gretzky, so no harm there. While never the craftiest skater or strongest player out on the ice, Hull simply knew how to shoot fast, straight, and true. Known as “The Incredible Hull” or sometimes “The Golden Brett,” Hull also had a reputation for being very blunt and outspoken on and off the ice. He was seen as having no filter and simply spoke up - for better or worse - on any aspects of the game, which made him a media favorite because of his candor. Despite never winning a championship with the team, Hull is seen to have his greatest moments with the St. Louis Blues and still holds numerous franchise records during his 11 seasons there. Furthermore, the Blues retired his no. 16 jersey in 2006, put up a statue outside the team’s arena, and even named a street after him, called the “Brett Hull Way”.

Good video. I will say that the part about Lemieux's per game numbers extrapolated over 84 games part is a bit misleading. For as amazing as that season was, he had the 3rd highest points per game for a season. Gretzky had higher points per game in 2 seasons, one where he had 205 points in 74 games, and one where he had 215 points in 80 games. About Gordie Howe, my favourite fact about his longevity is that between his first and his last NHL games of his career, Bobby Orr was born, made it into the NHL, played his whole NHL career, retired, and got inducted into the hall of fame!

The actual number of Canadian players playing in the NHL hasn't changed much since the 70's. It was around 300 in 72, and it's still close to 300 today. The only thing that has changed is the percentage. The league has doubled in size, so teams had to look around the world to fill out their rosters. The sky isn't falling. Canadians aren't losing their place in the NHL.
@isaacwest276

But if this were the ‘80s with those many teams there would be twice as many Canadians. There’s no question they’re still number one, but their dominance is now in question. Just look at this year’s Rocket Richard race, no Canadian in the top 5 and only 3 in the top 20

@@jeremybrazier786 Bobby Orr's 102 assists is incredible, but it's not as impressive as Gretzky's 163 assists. The closest anyone not named Wayne Gretzky has gotten to 163 assists is Mario Lemieux with 114 assists, 49 assists behind Gretzky. The closest any defenceman not named Bobby Orr got to 102 assists is Paul Coffey, with 90 assists. Brian Leetch had 80 assists in a season once as well. Lemieux's 114 assists is 70% of Gretzky's 163, Coffey's 90 assists is 88% of Orr's 102, and Leetch's 80 assists is 78% of Orr's 102. Other defencemen to get closer to Orr's record than Lemieux got to Gretzky's record are Phil Housley, Sergei Zubov, Al MacInnis, Ray Bourque, and Roman Josi (this year). Not to mention some of those guys (in particular Coffey) had more than one season where they got closer to Orr's record than Lemieux got to Gretzky's.

Here’s a fun fact I heard on the Capitals radio broadcast a week ago or so. During their first ever game they had a 1 goal lead at some point but eventually lost or tied the game. From then onward to last week they had finally dug themselves out of nearly a -800 goal differential and had finally scored 2 more goals than they had given up. With recent results I think they are back in the minuses.

Three things. One, a lot of Canadian players relocated in the U. S. And their kids are Americans. Two, USSR collapsed. I get the feeling we may see fewer Russians after Ukraine, but we'll see. Three, player development. The United States is just now seeing the fruits of the USNTDP and youth leagues like Little Caesars and teams like Honey baked. SHL, Liiga... Players are getting paid to play overseas. You don't have to make the NHL to make a good living... Although it is the best way for top talent to become filthy rich.

I have to say that I was at the game where Doan got the hat trick and the worst part about it was that because he scored as time expired, the refs had to review it. The ENTIRE arena just waited for the review instead of leaving despite the game being a blowout and then the place went absolutely crazy after they announced the goal was good. Doan is a great guy and a great leader.

Regarding international players in the NHL, over the past 25 or so years international players are being much better trained for the North American game. You rarely hear of "soft" European players anymore and I don't believe that's due to political correctness. International players know better what to expect in the NHL and many of them (Ovechkin, Chara, Forsberg, and many more) embrace the North American style.

@romaliop 2 жыл бұрын
The North American game has also become a lot "softer" over the years. Meaning that you cannot compensate lesser skill and speed with physicality any more and even the tough guys have to be able to play the game at a high level, if they want to stay in the league. Not to say that this is necessarily related to European players coming over.

I doesnt make sense to be blacklisted for this, someone shouldve claimed Sieloff and told him he had a guaranteed top 6 roster spot if he didnt get that physical with the main roster players. See how his physicality plays out in the regular season games. I mean i get thats probably not why he wasnt claimed, probably just didnt have the skill i mean both of those goals were flukes…but if it were, that physical presence on the ice is great to have on your side.
