The popularity of tear drop trailers has exploded over the last few years. Probably due to their compact size for storing on your property and fast and easy setup at the camp site.
Big RVs are often slow, cumbersome on the road and off road. Big RVs also wreck your fuel economy and are often as expensive as a house.
I see a lot of off road camper trailers...from cheap home built campers to high quality top of the line rigs.
These trailers from Overland Explorer out of Canada are the later. They are probably the highest quality off road tear drop trailer you can buy? I have yet to see a trailer that matches their level of construction and materials used.
Of course this level of quality comes with a price, but if you want to buy something that can survive years of banging around rocky trails and can be handed down generations....then you might want to take a closer look at the products from Overland Expedition.
If tear drop trailers are too small for your needs, they also make truck campers as well as outfit Sprinter vans.

The advantage of having the body bonded to the frame is less corrosion. Aluminum screwed on to steel, generates ionic flow between dissimilar metals resulting on corrosion!

You could use similar metals. You don’t have to use dissimilar metals for the mechanical bond.

Except it’s not screwed, it’s bonded with adhesive. So the dissimilar metals don’t touch an no corrosion.

Great video...I've been searching for more info on this trailer and you are the only one who appears to have made any video of the sort. Your first video, from last year, convinced me that this is the teardrop for me...and this video only confirms the thought. One question, do you know if these units are able to be customized? The reason I ask is I would like to order this exact design with one modification - remove the rear cabinets and kitchen so that the rear is open-air between the sleeping compartment and the outside, as I would relocate the pull-out kitchen to the front storage compartment-(Australian style). That's the primary reason I'm still searching the marketplace. Again, great video...an thanks for showing us more of what we want to see. jb

It's not that I don't like some of the features of this trailer, but for a whole lotta trails down here in the south west, she's too wide. Those fenders would get demolished. As much as they are touting creature comfort's I would sure think they could improve their water/sink design. Having to walk around The pull out kitchen area just to get to the water seems less than perfect. I also don't see much exterior lighting. Obviously it can be added on later, but when you're traveling all the way till dusk, being able to turn on some lights and set up camp is pretty helpful
@mixflip

I'll play devils advocate here. I live in the southwest desert region of the USA....we have huge wide open spaces out here so I can see this trailer fitting anywhere a Jeep can go. Grand Canyon, Zion Nt. Park, Moab Ut. Arches etc. Plenty of room for this trailer. As for setting up. There isn't much to setup. Just park, open the doors, slide stuff out and start cooking. I think you can configure the trailer any way you want. If you want things moved around....they will do it for you. This model you see in the video was just a demo. It was purchased the first day. They drove it back to Canada to ad a few details the buyers wanted. It doesn't come the way you saw it. It was just an intro/demo. If you want lights, just ad that to your build list when they meet with you.

Obviously very well made with great parts and attention to detail. But I have to give practicality and luxury points to some of the amatuer builds I've seen here in YT at 1/5th the price on a bigger frame where you can walk inside to your bed, closet, sink, etc. If going super subcompact, why not design it to explode out at destination for more space?

Seem cold packages most trailers hve r 1 double pane & 2 the compartments & lines, unless talking long trailers where floor key wall thickness not much of an issue w/small trailers & slide ins. Build quality is &design is key as far as cold but not a factor on small space heating. Market is going w/insta hot water &heating rather than furnace+ heat pump AC's on roof & that is enough bulk of market. Even pop tent ppl roof tent ppl find a way to heat but if using it's all about compartments & plumbing. If heat no problem if not heated big problem. They make a heated water hose in the NOW, perfect example.

Nice trailer. I thought the philosophy behind the adhesive only being used to secure the box to the chassis was a huge fail. No justification for a non-mechanical attachment. Adhesives fail over time, especially under extreme temperature deviations. The fact that the adhesive is very strong does not justify why no mechanical connection was made. I like the trailer though. I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

"40 gallons [of water] only goes so far..." (16:10) Umm, 40 gallons is a ton of water for a trailer this size and this type of application. You are only really using water for cooking, and the occasional shower or rinse/off. It is almost 350 lbs of water fully filled up. Thats way more than you would need unless you are out for weeks at a time.

Can you give an example of a production car from a major manufacturer that has a component of similar weight that isn't mechanically attached? I honestly don't think there is one. Don't fool yourselves, boys. All manufacturers use panel bonding adhesive, from Aston Martin and Mercedes, to Ford, Toyota, and GM. Anything from door skins, roof panels, box sides, and quarter panels are all bonded. Are they bonding a single piece like this camper shell? No. But why would you think that a few bolts, with a surface area of what, a few inches, would hold better than an entire strip of adhesive, spread over a much larger area? 3M adhesive has a shear strength of between 3000 and 4000 psi on steel. You're probably tearing the material apart before those bonds break.

I can't seem to find what I'm looking for, and am hoping someone knows of a smaller manufacturer that produces something like this. We need an indoor shower, as our camping will be in the Canadian Rockies. Too cold at points during the camping season/hunting season for an outdoor shower.

If you already own a truck I would seriously consider this all weather camper. You could ad a shower if needed. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n81ibMqEkrSnmY0.html

If you need a built in shower and sleeping for the kids but tiny and low profile take a look at this option as well. It's not built like a tank but it's hard sided for cold weather and still has a shower inside. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mJeDedea1Ju-nYE.html

Know any company that makes a pop top trailer like this with an upper bed that can sleep 2 adults on a lower bed and 2 kids on an upper bed?
@mixflip
@mixflip 6 жыл бұрын
There are some small companies that make a bunk bed trailer but they are not pop top style. They are just slightly bigger with a shelf only big enough to sleep a small child or store more gear inside. There is a company that makes a pop top off road trailer but it's just for standing height. It's not for bunk beds. Im guessing you could hire them to build you a custom trailer that has bunks instead of a queen bed. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9yUrKaTrp7OlKc.html

mixflip Thanks for the tip, I’ll take a look. I found a Taxa Cricket Trailer that can sleep 2 adults on a lower queen bed with 2 kids on hanging beds with a pop top. It’s very close to what I’m looking for, but it would be nice to see more trailers like it on the market.

the gas struts are installed upside down :P

I wonder if that was by design?

I was replacing gas struts on my vehicle so I had to look this up. The rod goes downwards so the lubrication inside the cylinder sits around the seals between the cylinder and the rod. If installed the other way, the lube sits at the bottom of the cylinder and the seals dry out. It seemed like universal instructions.

Nice vid. Sound problem but you know that,.That drawer extension doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I can see it too easy to be used as a seat. That would break it down. ( no matter how many you tell folks not to)

These sliding drawers have been used for years now without a single report of someone breaking them due to sitting on them.

Where are people getting a 20k price tag? I Watch the whole video, did he say the price? If so I missed it.

sam adams it might be on their website. this model is about $20k. it sold a few minutes after I filmed this video. someone paid cash!!!!
@scottalmeida

mixflip their website shows the price at $27,650.00. And that's before any options. If those were only $20k, I'd buy one yesterday. $30k is still a great price for that quality, once you get past the $30k mark, I think that is tough to swing for the average person.
@LenSilvester

sam adams, they are based in Alberta, Canada, the website prices are in Canadian dollars. So $30K CDN is $22K USD at todays dollar. A smoking deal for buyers south of the Canadian border

Aerin Lena there are lots of folks who live in the south west region of the US that could easily use this camper in all 4 seasons.

In all fairness I think its designed to go places normal travel trailers can't go. Plus its not meant for full time living.

MrWinger1951 this trailer sold in 24 hours being at the show. it's a tool for a job. if you were going from Prudo Bay Alaska to the bottom of Argentina 40,000 miles off road....this might be the perfect option. if you are going to the local camp site for the weekend....you could do that with a ground tent.
@MrWinger1951

I 'm not doubting that at all, but long before there were sophisticated and very expensive over land vehicles and trailers, there were guys who just did it with the best options and equipment they had, including on motorcycles. I've covered 6000 miles on my Harley, over 3 weeks, all by finding a place to tent, and tens of thousands of miles truck camping. But anyway, its a very nice unit for sure. I'm glad there are people who can afford them.
@mixflip

MrWinger1951 very true. it's all relative. somewhere in Africa there is a guy in a loin cloth and a walking stick shaking his head at our 4x4 truck campers and nylon tents. lol He is thinking...you don't need that to enjoy the land. My people have been doing it just fine barefoot for 1,000's of years.
