The town is a rare example of a fortified settlement of the Mayans, built with defences to protect this important trading post along the coastline.
It's usually visited either by staying at the modern day town of Tulum or from an organised daytrip tour, but if you're staying in Cancun, this place can be visited simply by public transport, and in this video I'll show you how!
